How Captain Sho met his firebird (Sorry I couldn’t resist >.<)
New Captain of the British naval ship Heart of the ocean Sho Sakurai walked through the port his eyes fixed on the broken cobbles and not on the stench of the over filled sewers which was causing a vile odour around the otherwise pretty port. England had long since disenchanted him his heart now belonging to the open sea. Nothing was here that could keep him and there was more money to be made on board the vessel of a privateer’s vessel. Oh he knew that his family should have been a reason but he had fallen out of favour with his father when it became clear that he would never be furthering the family line and now his brother Shu was the golden boy with the fate of the family resting on his shoulders.
Sho felt some guilt at causing his brother’s distress but at the same time he felt freer than he had ever felt under his father's rule. The only thing he could do that would truly cut his life away from that of his aristocratic family was to become a privateer. A screaming blood curdling shout cut through his thoughts and Sho looked up surprised to see a young black haired boy running towards him. Blood was staining both his shirt and his breeches, his face a deathly white. Tears were staining his cheeks and Sho was surprised to feel him colliding into his chest near knocking him off of his feet.
“Little Firebird? What is it?” He asked frantically trying to calm the sobbing boy, as the figure stared up at him. Fear was clear on his face but Sho had to admit that it was probably the most beautiful face that he had seen before.
“Please captain…please you must release me!” He sobbed weakly struggling fruitlessly in his hands “Please if you do not then I am to feel the burn of the noose…”
“The noose? Why would you feel…”
“Murder!” A voice screamed from where Kazunari had run from and Sho felt his heart twist in his chest as he looked at his firebird. The boy was panting harshly in between sobs as his hands twisted at the scrap of fabric that he called a shirt.
“Please captain allow me to leave…”
“You killed a man…” Sho breathed holding the boy even more tightly knowing that it was his duty to hand him over to the justice. More tears formed in the boy’s eyes as he shook his head all his squirming stopping when it became clear that he would not be able to get away.
“Please sir…I know what it appears but it isn’t the truth…I am many things sir but I’m no murderer…” The boy whispered keeping his bewitchingly dark eyes fixed on him and Sho found that he believed him and he decided to do something completely crazy. He released the boy’s shoulders and pulled him into a nearby tavern. It was so busy that nobody noticed them running up to the rooms above the bar and Sho pushed the boy into the first room they came to that was empty. “What…What are you doing sir?”
“Saving your life...Or at least I hope so…First you must get out of those blood stained things and wear this…” Sho ordered pulling a dress from the small inbuilt cupboard. The boy stared at the dress with more horror but was seemingly too dazed not to agree. His clothes were stripped quickly and deposited into a heap beside the small fire that was burning in the grate.
Sho tried hard not to stare at the lithe figure that was being revealed to him knowing that it was not an appropriate time to be admiring the potential murderer that he was helping. The dress was a little baggy on the slim form but Sho tightened the laces of his bodice and then threw on a cape around his shoulders. He loosened his hair from the tie that the boy held it in and allowed it to spill down around his shoulders. “I think that you should put a little make up on…You shouldn’t need too much...But just a little…”
“…Right…” The boy whispered looking at the array of products on the table in front of him picking up some powder and lipstick. He decorated his face quickly and Sho smiled putting up the hood of the cloak up over his head and nodding.
“Come on…My ship is sailing for the Americas at the tide…We will get you on it and away from here…My little firebird…”
