Sho watched the interaction of his colleague and the prince his eyes narrowing just a little as he saw that Ohno’s hand lingered slightly longer than was needed on Nino’s and the daft smiles that came into both of their faces. He was surprised doubting the man that he had heard so many stories about would ruin his carrier by doing something so stupid as falling in love with his charge. Then again he was learning that the legend and the man were two completely separate people. The legend wouldn’t have allowed himself to be caught up in even a friendship with his charge and that was something that he was going to maintain. Emotional attachments made it impossible to do the job.

“Do you have any brothers’ or sisters’ Sho-chan?” Masaki asked getting up from his own chair and taking the remaining toys as well as his milkshake and Sho pulled his thoughts away from Ohno and Nino to look at his own charge who had asked so many questions that Sho would have assumed that he was writing a report on him, if he believed that Masaki could actually write. It didn’t seem likely as the man wouldn’t have had much time for schooling while he was running around playing with farmyard and zoo animals.

“…I have a brother and a sister…” Sho answered with a shrug deciding that there was no harm in the boy knowing that and Masaki’s eyes seemed to sparkle as he bounced up and down asking;

“Really? What are they like?”

“I have no idea, my brother is ten years younger than me and my sister is five years younger…I’ve never even seen my brother and my sister…She was only 12 the last time I saw her…” Sho shrugged feeling a pang of something close to regret as he realised that his sister would be a young woman now while his brother would be the same age as Masaki or perhaps a little younger. He had cut himself off from his family when he had joined the delta squid. It wasn’t something that was forced but it was encouraged with the leaders stating things about family being a weakness and not a strength.

“That’s sad…” Masaki hummed his voice slicing through his mind like a knife and Sho shrugged slowly recovering his facial expressions as he mumbled;

“…I was never particularly close to my family, I receive letters from my parents and they respect what I do but that’s all that is needed…”

“…It’s still sad…You have a brother and sister that you never get to see…Satoshi was the same…Though his family is completely stupid…All they care about is the army…” Masaki growled glaring at the prince’s car as it started to pull out of the carpark. “…Nino changed that though...”

“They seem to be close…” Sho hummed delicately not wanting to talk but doubting that Masaki was going to give him any choice on the subject. The boy had been quiet throughout their drive here but now it seemed that the ice had well and truly been broken and he appeared to be more than happy to talk.

“Yeah, they’re like brothers!” The teen answered seemingly completely unaware of the tension between the pair “…Satoshi makes sure that Nino has fun as well as doing all of the silly things that he has to do…So do you have a girlfriend?”
