“Masaki?” Nino whispered in amazed whisper staring through blurred eyes at the man that he had been thinking about since unceremoniously arriving at Jun’s home. He had been wanting to call him but he hadn’t known what to say but now he was here and he wasn’t completely sure he if he was still dreaming. “You’re really…Here?”
“Yes…It’s me…I’m really here…” Masaki chuckled as he came over to the bed and took his hand their fingers linking with just enough pain that it told him that it was completely real. “What are you doing here? What happened…I thought you went home…”
“I did…” Nino mumbled slowly his cheeks flushing as he realised that Jun was hovering by the door watching him intently his eyes boring a hole into his as if he were trying to read his soul. It made him uncomfortable and he was glad when Masaki said;
“Jun-san? Didn’t you say you had to go out? I’ll look after Nino…”
“Right…I’ll be back as quickly as possible…” Jun growled leaving the room with an ungraceful huff the door slamming in its frame a little. Nino sighed closing his eyes again wondering how his subconscious had found it in itself to feel safe and comfortable around the surly former pimp. Masaki was looking different from when he saw him last, his face was pale and strained as though he had been through a lot in a short period of time but he was still managing to smile comfortingly at him as he said happily;
“There he’s stopped lurking so you can tell me what’s happened to you since we last met…How did you end up with Jun?”
“…It…I went home like I promised I would but it just brought back the same problems and I had to leave…” He whispered trying hard not to remember the screams of his step-mother and the way that his half-brother and sister had treated him. It had been easier for him to leave. “You…You weren’t there…I kept going back…Until…I met somebody…And…”
“You met somebody?” Masaki asked suspiciously his smile fading a little as his eyes took on a knowing glint “You mean a client…? Why didn’t you just phone me?”
“…I…I didn’t want to keep bugging you…” He mumbled his head hanging just a little his head starting to feel a little foggy again but it was nothing like it had been for the last couple of days and he was easily able to keep focused as Masaki clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth saying;
“Idiot…I told you…If you ever needed me…Not matter when or where call me I would come and help you…I kept the phone just in case you called…When you did I assumed that everything was okay…If I had known that you were on the street working…”
“…I…I’m sorry…”
“It’s not your fault...It’s your family’s fault…” Masaki growled his hands clenching tightly against the bedsheets “They are the ones that are meant to have looked after you…” He insisted and Nino almost smiled at the gentle way his friend was still defending him even after so long “So you ended up on the streets and then…How have you ended up with Jun? He wouldn’t employ you because you’re too young for that...”
“…I spent most of my nights in his club…I felt safer in there…And when I was stabbed…” Nino let his voice trail off his side stinging at the thought of it. Understanding was once again in Masaki’s face as he hummed gently;
“He was the first place that you thought of…You must really like Jun-san and he must like you to take care of you...” Nino wanted to protest and mutter that Jun wasn’t being nice but Masaki continued with his happy smile “I’ve never seen him look like that with anybody else…”
