Keep the Faith part 18
Mar. 2nd, 2016 10:17 amNino closed his eyes his hands trembling nervously as he walked up the crunchy stone drive to Jun’s ridiculously large house. He had been here loads of times before and he still couldn’t work out why it had to be so large. It had three floors one of which was solely Jun which housed not only his bedroom and bathroom but also his computer room, his games room, and a study that was decked out with all the books and more that a person would ever need to read. The only time he ever seemed to see his family was when they were having breakfast, lunch, and dinner something that Mrs Matsumoto insisted they do as a family no matter how hectic things got for them. Nino hadn’t though he would at first but he had decided that he liked the Matsumoto’s a lot. They weren’t overly warm like Masaki’s parents, or very family orientated like the Satoshi’s, but they weren’t distant and cold like Sho’s were. They had brought Jun up just right in Nino’s opinion and he couldn’t understand why Jun would be so insistent that he wanted to be with him.
They hadn’t spoken since the elevator had finally come and to be perfectly honest it was starting to frustrate him. He didn’t know where they stood now or what they were meant to do. Jun had promised that he wouldn’t hate him but he still wasn’t convinced. When people knew that he had been in therapy people ended up instinctively staying away from him. Half the time Nino couldn’t blame them. They didn’t know how to talk to him about anything much less about the fact that he had knowingly and willingly ingested large amounts of floor cleaner with a load of tablets in the hopes of being able to escape his life.
He had never willingly told anybody on his own, but more than once it had come out when people that had known him in his life previously had blundered their way back into his life. Rumours normally started then, whispers following him down the corridors until the bolder ones would risk coming to speak to him. They would act friendly, smiles on their faces, as they desperately probed him for information wanting to know the truth. Again he still hadn’t told them which had made them angry. The name calling started after that, the bullying that he hadn’t been able to handle. His second and almost more successful attempt had happened then. He would never forget waking up in hospital with his throat and stomach aching from being pumped and his grandparents worried faces.
He had never hated himself more than he had in that moment. The fear and pain so evident in their eyes as they told him that from now on he was coming to stay with them. His life had been different, a whole other pace. It wasn’t relaxing, his grandmother insisted on waking with the lark. As soon as the sunlight streamed in through the window she would be up and making them tea. Cold hands would run down his cheek stirring him from painful dreams and then the chores would be done. Washing, cleaning and baking all had to be out of the way before 10 in the morning and then he was his grandfather’s for the day. The man had retired from farming a few years previous but he refused to sit around and stare at walls and instead he had set up a gardening service and each day he was out driving around in his little gold golf taking care of the ‘Old Ladies’, all of whom were much younger than he was but that never seemed to bother him. His grandparents had helped him through the worst of it, his body was too active for his mind to dwell but eventually, a year after, they had insisted on therapy.
“Nino? Do you want a drink?” Jun asked rousing him from his thoughts and Nino blinked slowly surprised to find himself already in Jun’s kitchen with his friend looking at him with a concerned expression on his face.
“…Yeah…Um…Pop…Please…” He nodded nervously and Jun smiled taking him a bottle of cola from the cupboard and Nino took it gratefully from his hands their fingers brushing a little sending jolts of electricity throughout his system “Jun…What’s going on? Between us…I…”
“…We’re dating…” Jun said and Nino was sure that he had never heard his friend sound so confident in his life. “At least I hope so…”
