It had been around six months since the man had been coming into the café that he ran and Nino had noticed that over the time he had been becoming more and more in love with him though he couldn’t help notice that the man had become more withdrawn and depressed and he knew that it had a lot to do with the guy who was now sitting on another table with somebody else.
“Here…Milky coffee…Jun’s favourite…” Masaki hissed jabbing him in the ribs and motioning to the cup that was in his hand “Take it to him and actually say something…I’m sick of watching you pine over him!”
“I’m not pining!” Nino whined flushing with embarrassment at the fact that the man knew about his feelings.
“Of course not…” Masaki rolled his eyes and then pushed him away from the counter over to Jun who barely looked up from the script he was reading to stare at him and ask;
“Yes…”
“Um…Coffee…Coffee…For you…” Nino spluttered his hand shaking as he reached out with the mug. Jun’s eyes narrowed into sharp little points.
“I didn’t order a coffee…”
“No…But…It’s…On…The house…” Nino let out a breath and then dropped the mug down in front of him and then ran as fast as he could away from him trying to ignore the stifled laughter that Masaki was letting out.
Nino growled darkly as another bubbly college girl ordered a frothy coffee that he couldn’t even pronounce the name off and then went away giggling to a table. It was the middle of the Christmas rush hour and he wanted to go home and not come back until the whole holiday was over. He looked over at the table Jun normally sat at noticing that he hadn’t been in since he had given him the free coffee. He supposed that Jun had figured that he had a creepy crush on him and had stopped coming to avoid him. He wasn’t completely sure how Jun might have figured it out but it probably came out when he had given him the coffee.
The hectic hour passed and Nino thankfully stared around at the almost empty café his whole body exhausted and a quiet ache forming in the back of his mind. Half tempted to close up early but he knew that Masaki would kill him if he did.
“Hello and welcome to Disco Star…” Nino hummed in a singularly monotone voice as a shadow fell across him and he looked up gasping in surprise when he realised that the object of his thoughts and desires was standing in front of him looking as dark and brooding as ever.
“Milky coffee…Please…” Jun grunted sitting on the stool in front of him his eyes red rimmed and Nino nodded slowly all thumbs as he attempted to make a milky coffee which would be good enough to give to Jun. Somehow it took him three attempts and he felt sick as he placed it down onto the counter pulling a handkerchief from his pocket as he did so.
“Um…Your eyes…They’re leaking…” He explained trying hard not to point out that he was crying knowing that Jun wouldn’t really like that very much. He looked a little shocked and then wiped his eyes slowly whispering;
“Sorry…My gran…She just passed away…”
“I’m sorry for your loss…” Nino hummed before reaching under the counter and taking out he biggest chocolatiest cake they had and gave it to him “Here…It’s on me…”
“Than-ks…What’s your name?”
“Nino…”
“Jun…Matsumoto Jun…” Jun breathed and Nino gave a smile his heart skipping at the name, he had known it of course but it was different hearing out of the horse’s mouth so to speak.
“Nice to meet you…”
“And you…” Jun nodded his head and they fell into a quiet silence with Jun eating his cake and drinking his coffee while Nino pretended to work wiping down a counter he’d already washed twice before taking the empty cup and filling it again. Jun smiled in thanks and Nino smiled back before turning to serve another costumer sad that when he turned back Jun was gone.
“You gave him free cake?” Masaki asked with a frown and a playful pout causing him to roll his eyes and say something that both of them knew was a lie.
“I put the money in…”
“I’m sure you did, right…So you’re going to go right?”
“…I...I don’t know…Will you come with me?” Nino asked nervously looking hopefully at his friend who smiled his head nodding almost frantically as he gripped his shoulders to the point it was almost painful gasping out a near frantic;
“Of course…If it gets you to stop mooning I’ll do anything you like…”
“I’m not mooning!” Nino hissed cheeks colouring with warmth before he frowned at the near blank tickets wondering what play it was the group was doing. There was no information on the ticket and he hadn’t actually seen any flyers about it but, be that as it may, he was determined to go. The fact that he had been remembered by the student was a good sign wasn’t it? He thought about the man that Jun had been with for a while wondering what had happened and hoping it was a permanent thing and he wondered if he was okay from his grandmother’s passing. He had been genuinely upset about it so it must have been hard for him to carry on going to college and rehearsing during all of that.
Jun needed somebody to take care of him and Nino wondered, just once or twice if he would allow that somebody to be him. He doubted it, he had dropped out of college before he’d even really gotten started and Jun was extremely good looking.
“Hey stop pouting you’ll scare my customers off…” Masaki growled flicking on the backside with a tea towel. “Get back to grinning like an idiot…And, please, when this play is over, tell Jun how you feel…Or I will!”

There's such a sad love
Deep in your eyes.
A kind of pale jewel
Open and closed
Within your eyes.
I'll place the sky
Within your eyes.
Ninomiya ‘Nino’ Kazunari sighed as he looked across the room at the man that had just come in. He was beautiful with curling black hair and clothes that accented his body and made it clear that he was from the art college down the street. His friend had told him that his name was Matsumoto Jun and Nino had learnt over the years to question his vast knowledge of people. Aiba Masaki knew everybody and everybody knew him and liked him which was even more of an achievement in Nino’s opinion.Deep in your eyes.
A kind of pale jewel
Open and closed
Within your eyes.
I'll place the sky
Within your eyes.

There's such a fooled heart
Beatin' so fast
In search of new dreams.
A love that will last
Within your heart.
I'll place the moon
Within your heart.
Beatin' so fast
In search of new dreams.
A love that will last
Within your heart.

As the pain sweeps through,
Makes no sense for you.
Every thrill is gone.
Wasn't too much fun at all,
But I'll be there for you-ou-ou
As the world falls down.
Falling.
Falling down.
Falling in love.
Nino frowned at the envelope Masaki had handed to him momentarily worried that his boss and friend had decided to hand in his notice. Pushing that thought aside though he opened it and saw instead there were two tickets to the college end of year show along with a note asking him to come as payment for the free coffees and cake.Makes no sense for you.

I'll paint you mornings of gold.
I'll spin you Valentine evenings.
Though we're strangers 'til now,
We're choosing the path
Between the stars.
I'll leave my love
Between the stars.

Though we're strangers 'til now,
We're choosing the path
Between the stars.
I'll leave my love

Nino swallowed nervously as he looked around the theatre feeling oddly underdressed in jeans and a shirt even though they were his best pair. Everybody else seemed formally dressed, even Masaki who was wearing slacks and a pressed forest green shirt. The tickets were for reserved family and friend seating in the second to front row and Nino guessed that Jun’s part must at least be in the main cast to be given such reserved seating. He knew the title of the play now, Labyrinth, based on a 1980’s movie of the same name but he had never seen it and he was keenly looking forward to it. The lights dimmed and the curtain went up to show Jun, dressed in overly tight and flamboyant clothing sitting high up in the air staring into a crystal ball he held in his fingertips.
His long hair had been dyed and spiked around his made up face and Nino couldn’t help but feel a twitch in his lower half as the man he desired pouted into the crowd his eyes fixed on the crystal ball and he leant back against the wall as a woman, dressed in a flowing gown ran onto the stage and began quoting from a book that she held in her hands. Jun was still staring into the crystal ball and Nino had the feeling that the image of the girl was what he was meant to be seeing.
The next hour and half was something incredible with Sara’s brother being kidnapped by the goblin king Jareth causing her to enter a strange and wonderful world with a bizarre cast of characters. The one scene which caused Nino to grow uncomfortable with was a ballroom scene which Sara had entered after being given a poisoned apple. Jun’s expression had been wonderful as he had danced her around the stage and sang in a passable voice. It was slightly rough and nasally to be perfectly honest but it hadn’t taken away from the sheer seduction of the scene and the song…The song held everything that Nino wanted to say to Jun and more.
Nino was among the first to his feet to clap and cheer when the show ended and he was positive that Jun’s gaze settled a little bit longer on him when he was doing his bow. He even motioned for him to go to the backstage area. Nino was going to refuse but Masaki had caught the look and was dragging him around before the cheering had stopped.

“I’m glad you could make it…What did you think?” Jun asked when they were piled into his little dressing room and Nino was desperately trying hard not to look at the groin area, the tight, tight trousers doing very little to hide anything that ordinarily people didn’t want other people to see.
“It was great…You…You were great…” Nino answered his voice shaking with his nerves, something which grew worse when Jun smiled sitting down in his chair and rubbing the back of his neck with a handkerchief that Nino recognised as being his own. His lips twitched a little but he didn’t say anything just enjoyed it when Jun turned a little red in embarrassment twisting the garment around his fingers before mumbling;
“There’s the after party after this…Would you like to come…With me?”
“I…Um…I…”
“He’d love to!” Masaki supplied pushing him forward a little more so Nino was almost falling into the younger man’s lap “Wouldn’t you?”
“I…Um…I guess…”
“Good…I…I’m really glad…I’ve been wanting to ask you out since…That first coffee but…With everything that’s been going on…I…Was worried that you wouldn’t want to…” Jun mumbled his shoulder’s sagging with relief, relief which Nino shared though his was accompanied by a lot of surprise and shock. He didn’t have chance to express that though as Jun was already up and stripping out of his costume “Good…I’ll get changed and we can head over…Just hang on a moment…”

Familiar music poured out of the speakers as Nino and Jun danced together at the after show, his arms were tightly around Jun’s neck as Jun’s arms were wrapped around his waist. It was overly familiar really since they had only just started dating but Nino had no complaints with the situation, in fact it was actually rather nice reminding him of the ballroom scene from the play. When he thought that he realised why the music was familiar it was same song just sung in English, probably by the original artist.
“…Thanks for being there…” Jun whispered as they swayed back and forth to the ballad that was playing and Nino blanked in confusion looking up into his eyes with his eyebrows crinkled into a frown.
“Hhn?”
“When I was upset…You were there…Both times…And again tonight…My gran was meant to come tonight…I’m glad that you were there…Even if we don’t really know each other…” Jun explained with several little embarrassed shrugs and Nino smiled pressing against him the lyrics of the song coming back to him and he wished that he could say them out loud in some cheesy declaration but right now, in his head he would say them and in the future…A long time in the future when they had been dating for years he would say them.
