Ohno sighed as they looked around the white and blue room that looked like the very essence of a doctor’s waiting room. Nino was beside him flicking nervously through a dog eared magazine while flicking his eyes to the clock on the wall. It was the same pattern that they had followed for the last two and a half months. Today though was the final stage, in the little bag that was in between both of them there were two pots of sperm that had been collected and would be mixed carefully before being placed into a collection of eggs that had been collected from the woman that they were going to be inserted back into, the woman that they were due to meet today.

Nino and Mao had obviously researched it carefully, in their planning because the only thing he and Nino had had to do was make an appointment and turn up. The process for the surrogates was carefully screened at the company they were using but the final selection was the women that would be carrying the new life, they were the ones that choose. It was different from other Nino had been panicking that nobody would want to carry their baby and after four disappointing visits they almost couldn’t believe it when the phone and rung telling them that somebody had selected to carry their baby.

“Ohno-Ninomiya, they will see you now” The girl behind the counter said and Nino almost shot out of his chair dropping the magazine and letting out an unmanly shout. Ohno got to his feet a little slower than his husband but they walked to their regular room at the same time both taking deep breaths to combat the nerves that where building in their stomachs. Ohno still hadn’t really made his mind up if he was happy or not about the baby, all he knew was that he wanted Nino to be happy and that meant that he would do everything he could to make this go well.

He opened the door and guided Nino into the now familiar office/ laboratory and their doctor Sakamoto Ryuichi smiled and gave them a polite nod of the head. Sat on the edge of the hard bed was a pretty young woman up who jumped to her feet immediately and smiled at them as Sakamoto came over to them.

“Welcome back” The doctor said softly as he accepted the bag from them. “May I introduce Hagino Demiyah, who is going to be your surrogate mother…”

“Just call me Dee" the woman said with a smile and Ohno blinked amazed about how much the girl did look like a fusion of him and Nino it was strange and almost creepy even though he had known that the company would find someone with their characteristics but this was amazing. She was about 25 years old, with bright eyes and soft brown hair that was cut into an elfin style around her ears. She was the same height as them and just as thin as Nino.

“You’re the woman that going to have our baby?” Ohno said dumbly wincing when Nino jabbed him hard in the ribs

“Yes…Nice to meet you both…” She said holding out her hand and Nino grabbed it quickly

“Nice to meet you too…I’m Ohno-Ninomiya Kazunari and this Oji-chan is my husband Satoshi…” He said and Dee’s grin got a little wider as she nodded a head in greeting again “Thank-you so much for doing this…”

“You’re welcome, I saw your profile and I knew I wanted to be able to give you a baby…” Dee said softly with a grin before pointing to the chairs that were by the side while the doctor was working on something in the see-through closed off lab “We should talk a little more first, ne?”

“Yes…” Nino agreed tugging Ohno towards the squishy brown and cream chairs linking their fingers and Ohno squeezed them trying to be as reassuring as possible though feeling a little like a fish out of water. They sat together on one of the chairs their legs pressed firmly against each other their hands still joined tightly as they looked at Dee who sat in the chair opposite them. “What would you like to know?”

“Can you tell me how you met?” Dee asked leaning forwards in her chair and looking at them both closely “I know it said that you’ve been married for 7 years but I’d like to know a little more…”

“I…It was New Year’s Eve… 12 years ago…” Nino mumbled slowly his voice losing confidence now and Ohno wrapped an arm around his waist kissing his cheek.

“I was resting on a bench before visiting the shrine and Kazu asked me if I was okay…”

“And it was love at first sight?” Dee asked her eyes shining with happiness and Nino half nodded half shook his head before clenching his jaw and getting a determined look in his eyes

“I had been kicked out of my parent’s house because they found out that I was gay, I had nowhere to live, no money no nothing so I started working as a whore…Satoshi guessed and paid me to spend the night with him, he took me to the shrine and then brought me a dinner and told me he was a teacher… A few days later I went back to school and… Satoshi paid for me exclusively…” He said his voice drifting off towards the end his hand getting tighter around Ohno’s as he prepared for Dee to call him a freak and run out of the room “I know how it sounds but…That night and every night since then Satoshi has saved my life…And now here he is trying to give me a baby…”

“Thank-you for telling me…And that’s all I needed to know…” Dee said softly her smile not faltering on her face and her eyes shining with happiness as she looked at them both. Ohno stared at the woman that seemed to be holding the key to Nino and his future happiness, stroking his thumb over the sweaty hand that was holding his so tightly it hurt. Ohno knew that they were both waiting for a rejection and he was already forming a ‘It’ll be okay, there’s always next time’ speech when Dee clapped her hands together “So shall we get this show on the road?”

“What?” Ohno and Nino said together both their mouths dropping open and Dee laughed

“You’re both teachers, you own your own home and more importantly you love each other and I think you would love a baby just as much…If I can help in any way to make that possible I’m glad to do it…”

“But…What about…” Nino mumbled sounding as if he couldn’t believe his ears and Ohno had to admit that he was in the same boat.

“Your past?” She asked and Nino nodded dumbly still not able to form the words correctly ashamed of everything that he had done then. Dee put a warm hand on his shoulder and squeezed it lightly “Your past is your past everybody has one…But I think it will make you love the baby just a little bit harder…”

“Thank-you…” Nino whispered it was simple words but from the faint tremble that accompanied them everybody in the room could tell how much it meant to him and Dee gave another smile and a quick nod of her head

“You’re welcome…So shall we make a baby?”
