Princess part 26

Nino opened his eyes and then immediately closed them again when the world swam a little. For a moment he had no idea where he was but then he recognised the soft shade of green/blue that decorated the walls and the curtains that were drawn around the bed. Somebody was sat next to him and he hoped and wished that it was Ohno but when he looked up he saw quite clearly that it was just his brother sitting reading his English language text book.

“Hey Nii-chan…” Jun said closing the book with a snap of pages against pages his face actually seeming concerned as he continued “You’ve finally decided to wake up then?”

“Yeah…Where’s Oh-chan?” Nino looked round the room with a mixture of hope and apprehension in his heart. He could still hear the blunt way Satoshi had said ‘Because you’re my boyfriend’ like it was toast they were discussing. He was almost sure that the older teen had been joking but if he was he had unwittingly played a very cruel joke on him.

“He had to get to class and since I had a free period he asked me to wait with you…” Jun answered with a shrug and Nino bit down hard on his bottom lip trying and failing to hide his disappointment. He leaned back against the pillows and started at the white tiled ceiling his hands gripping at the sheet that was covering him “Nee-chan what the hell are you playing at!” Jun snapped suddenly anger in his voice “Have you got anorexia? Because Oh-chan has told me that you haven’t been eating enough to keep a sparrow alive much less a person…”

“…What I’m not starving myself!” Nino protested hotly having to acknowledge the fact that he hadn’t been eating as much as he should. He had been so stressed lately that food had been the last thing on his mind.

“Yeah? So how come you fainted with anaemia? That’s not normal…” Jun hissed and Nino sighed his hands tightening on the bedding as he gave a roll of the shoulders twin spots of colour appearing in his cheeks.

“I dunno I just wasn’t all that hungry…”

“You have to eat from now on Nino-chan!” Satoshi’ voice told him as the curtain twitched and Satoshi appeared with a stern look on his face and Nino found himself blushing under the look he was being given. “Sorry I wasn’t here when you woke up Nino-chan! I had to go to Sakurai-sensei and inform him that we wouldn’t be in class for the rest of the day…You’re also suspended from princess duties until tomorrow evening at the earliest!”

“Eh? But there’s that basketball game…”

“Aiba-chan and I can handle it…” Satoshi told him in a tone that told him that he wasn’t allowed to argue about it “Everybody already knows that you haven’t been feeling very well…”

“The student council has already arranged an area your fans can send their get well messages…and gifts…”

“This is so stupid…I feel fine!” Nino cried out forcing himself to sit up straight and Satoshi chuckled taking his hand and giving it a squeeze his other hand coming up to gently stroke away a lock of hair that had fallen over his eyes.

“Just this once sit in the room and play games…Okay…”

“Okay…” Nino agreed wishing his brother would leave so he could ask what the hell Satoshi had meant about being his boyfriend. Jun seemed to read his mind as he got up and stuffed his book into his bag saying;

“Since Ohno-sempai is here now I’ll leave you...”

“Think-you Jun-kun…” Satoshi smiled and Nino gave a grunt watching the smaller boy leave before turning to Satoshi and whispering lightly;

“What…What did you mean when you said boy-Boyfriend? You…Me…”

“You asked me at the end of last year...” Satoshi hummed smoothing out the sheet down around him not caring that Nino’s eyes popped out of his head as he gasped;

“I…Did?”

“Yes, it was the night before we left for summer…We were watching that film and you finally asked me…” Satoshi announced and Nino frowned trying hard to remember and then suddenly a memory filtered through his mind of him and Satoshi sitting on his bed with the TV on. He hadn’t been paying all that much attention both sleepy and excited by the fact that Satoshi was so close. He had rested his head on Satoshi’s shoulder and thought ‘I wish you were my boyfriend…’ or at least he had thought that he had thought it but now Satoshi was telling him that he had actually said it out loud. All his worrying and he had accidently asked Satoshi out. Life…Life really wasn’t fair sometimes.
