Sho sat still in the chair that he had been sat in throughout the performance of the spirit squad his mind dizzy with all the thoughts that he had gone through during it. Nothing could have prepared himself for most of the feelings that had crept up inside of him as he had watched Masaki moving around the stage singing with the other two members. He had always considered himself to be straitlaced, when he had been at university studying for his degree his teacher had warned him of the dangers that he would face being a young attractive man but he had always been positive that teenagers would never turn his head but now, after only hour watching Masaki dance around and smile at him he was a mess.
“So what do you think of our little spirit squad, Sakurai-sensei?” The head teacher asked softly a happy little smile on his face and Sho managed to pull his thoughts together long enough to whisper a very incoherent;
“I…Um…They…They are very enthusiastic…”
“Aiba-chan mostly…” The old man chuckled and for a moment Sho wondered if he knew the thoughts that had been buzzing around in his head for most of the performance. He hoped that this wasn’t where he was going to be told to leave. “Ohno-chan does his best but he is a little absentminded…Nino-chan I have long since decided is only there because of Ohno…Aiba-chan is the force that makes it work…He gives his all to everything he does…”
“You sound like a proud grandfather…” Sho whispered his heart still jumping against his ribs. He knew full well that the old man didn’t have any grandchildren or even children, his whole life had been dedicated to the schools that he taught at. Sho had always admired the man since he was young and aspired to be a teacher like that so he was surprised when the old man gave him a little sadder smile humming;
“I am…”
“Head teacher?” Sho whispered in confusion but the man continued to give his cheery smile looking around the emptying hall with his hand gripping tightly to his walking stick saying;
“His father was a student here also...Not a member of the spirit squad…Masahiko was a handsome man but fortunately for us Aiba-chan has his grandmother’s looks…”
“Grandmother…”
“She was a student of mine to, one of my first…” The old man whispered and once more Sho felt a prickle of intrigue spreading out over his skin as he wondered if maybe there was something that the older man was about to confess. “So you see I have known almost all of the family…Of all my students I see Aiba-chan as my family….”
“I…See…” Sho whispered nervously his tongue poking out of his mouth to lap nervously at his lips again cursing himself for his thoughts. The old man turned to fix him with a stare his hand coming out to cover his giving it a quick squeeze.
“That is why I must ask you if you would be prepared to give him some extra lessons…His family has hopes that he will attend a good college…But I’m afraid that while he is a valued member of our spirit squad he is not academically bright, I of course should pull him from the squad so he can focus all of his attention on his studies but as I have pointed out he is too valuable to lose and I know that he desperately wants to continue for this last year! What do you say?”
