Life Changing part 18
Aug. 12th, 2015 10:56 am"I'm sorry, I said something that I shouldn’t have” Agnes whispered about the rattling of the door and Nino did his best to smile wanting to reassure the old woman but he couldn’t. His first confession, his first love had just gone completely wrong and all he wanted was to curl into a ball and cry. In the end he squatted in the middle of the floor and hugged himself crying quick and hard surprised when the old woman came to kneel beside him her arms wrapping around his shoulders “Dear, dear…You shouldn’t cry you know! He loves you…”
“He said that he didn’t…” Nino whispered shaking with a hard sob that tore through his body and rattled his bones the tears rolling faster than ever down his cheeks.
“Of course he did…He was scared and like all men when you’re scared you act out in violence…” Agnes chuckled her hand moving up and down his back in slow circles “Satoshi…He has had no love in his life…I doubt he knows what it is really…And more than likely he thinks that he isn’t good enough for you…Your job now is to show him that that isn’t true!”
“How do I do that?” Nino asked pulling at his fringe in desperation, even without their now complicated feelings Satoshi had been impossible. He refused to accept that he was anything but a thief “…Satoshi is so convinced that he isn’t good at anything! But he is! He’s good at many things!”
“…I promised that I would give him these…They are the art supplies that my Bernard…” Agnes paused biting hard on her lower lip and Nino assumed that Bernard was the man that had been lost at sea when before they married and Nino wondered how she could be willing to part with it now when she had been holding onto it for as long as she had “When I was at the church I saw a doddle Satoshi was working on…He has talent…I’m not getting younger…And I’m not much of an artist…Give these too him…There are no pencils and only a few sheets of paper but the rest…The rest will come in handy…”
“Thank-you…Miss Ohno…I’m sorry about your Bernard…” Nino whispered not knowing what else to say and Agnes gave him a smile stroking his face with age worn hands.
“Thank-you child, it was many years ago but the pain…” The old woman gave a sigh her cloudy eyes looking even mistier as she looked out of the window and out over the sea “It is still fresh…I never told him, you see, I never told him that I loved him…I should have done…I should have shown the courage you did…But always I said…I’ll tell him tomorrow…But tomorrow never came…”
“He knew that you loved him…” Nino found himself saying taking her hand and giving the almost brittle fingers a squeeze “Of course he did…”
“…I think so too…But I should have said it…” The older woman said with an almost impossibly bright smile for her age “You will have to make it up for me…Win Satoshi and make sure you tell him each and every day, never waiting until tomorrow…”
“I will! If I can convince him…”
