krystalkatzficz“You’re that kid that Kenta has taken in right?” An earthy obese shopkeeper asked as he and Nino walked around the small shop in the hopes of finding something for Julia’s birthday. It was an odd thing for him to be doing, more so because Kenta had had to give him the money for it but he really did want to find something special for the woman that had been happily taking care of him, he should have expected though that the shop keep wouldn’t welcome him in his shop “You know just because he thinks you’re safe doesn’t mean that I trust you…I heard tell that you’re a thief…”
“Satoshi is nothing of the sort!” Kazu growled defensively and Satoshi felt his heart swoop with happiness that he knew that he didn’t deserve at his friends defence of him. He had known that Nino was still acting strange around him there was a nervous look in his eyes whenever they looked at each other for too long and he didn’t sit as close to him as he used when he was teaching him his letters but in this moment it felt like Nino was really back to being his friend again. But it wasn’t fair as he was a thief, he had stolen several times even if he had only been caught twice. “Yes…He made mistakes but wouldn’t you do if you were hungry?”
“Kazu…It’s fine, I don’t wanna shop here anyway…” Satoshi said putting a hand on his friend’s shoulder glad when he didn’t outright push him away though that was more than likely because he was still glaring at the shop keeper like he was about to break his nose. Nino’s whole body was rippling with rage as he spat;
“It’s not fine! He’s looking at you like you’re a criminal!”
“I am, silly princess…Just ‘cause you forgot don’t mean everybody else will…” Satoshi sighed knowing that it would take a long time for anybody to forget that he was just one of Kenta’s many reform students. Nino though didn’t take that as an acceptable answer and gave a loud growl that sounded almost like a beast before snapping;
“I didn’t forget! I just don’t care! You did only what you had to do to survive, you were starving so what right does he have to judge you?” Nino hands waved at the man and Satoshi found himself remembering a passage in the bible that said something similar “You weren’t even doing anything suspicious now so he didn’t have the right to say that to you! You should apologise to Satoshi…”
“Kazunari…” The shop keeper said surprising Satoshi with the fact that he looked ashamed and remorseful.
“Not me…Satoshi!”
“…I’m sorry…” The beefy man said bowing his head in an awkward jerk and Satoshi nodded. He hadn’t cared much about the man’s view of him but he was happy that Nino had defended him and he hoped that it was a sign that their relationship was on the way to being mended.
“Come on Satoshi…We’ll go somewhere else…” Nino huffed grabbing his hand and pulling him out of the shop. Only when they were out on the street again did Nino release his hand but he stayed close beside him again so that he could feel the heat coming off of him and Satoshi jolted as his heart did a strange little flip inside of his chest. It was something that had been happening a lot recently and he was almost sure that there was something wrong with him but when he had tried to explain it to Kenta the man had just laughed saying that he would understand it when he was ready to.
“Kazu…”
“Nino!” A voice shouted happily pulling Nino’s attention from him while a shadow cast over them. Nino’s face went from angry to happy in the space of a second and he was soon jumping up and throwing his arms around the newcomer who was hugging him back just as tightly “How is my little boyfriend?”
