Nino had to admit that Satoshi looked a whole lot better when the muck had been washed away from his face and hair and was dressed in his clothes. He was surprised at how skinny the boy was. He was often told that he was thin but the clothes were hanging off of the other boy.
“Watcha looking at?” Satoshi growled hissing like an angry cat his arms wrapping around his body and Nino pulled his eyes away from him quickly rolling his shoulders and scratching the back of his own head giving a shrug as he said;
“I was thinking that you look better when you don’t have a face full of mud…Are you ready for food or would you like to be shown to your room?”
“I ain’t staying…I’m going as soon as I’ve eaten!” Satoshi spat hotly causing Nino to jump his heart racing against his chest. He honestly had no idea why the boy was so angry with them when his father was the one that had gotten him out of prison and hadn’t asked anything from him “…The old fruit said so…”
“…Where? It will be dark soon and you don’t want to get lost on the moors around here…” Nino whispered his eyes going to his own window where the sun was indeed going down outside. He wasn’t exactly sure why he was so scared that something would happen to him but Nino had heard all of the horror stories that had told about what happened to people lost on the moors overnight and none of them were fairy stories with happy endings “You would die…”
“…Don’t matter…”
“It doesn’t matter if you die? Are you crazy? Of course it matters…” Nino ranted wondering how anybody could think that it didn’t matter to die. He was only 14 but as the son of the vicar of the parish he had been the official mourner at several funerals and there wasn’t a death that didn’t matter.
“To who? I ain’t you! I don’t have no old fruit that dotes on me or a mama that smiles when I walk into the room…So who would it matter to?”
“…You idiot!” Nino raged slapping the boy hard across his cheek not knowing what else to do. He wasn’t his father with his calm tone that could convince people to do just what he wanted but he knew that he didn’t want to have to attend the funeral of somebody so young or have his father have to perform it “You would matter to my dad…When they find your body out there in the moor who do you think would have to commit you to the ground?” Nino knew that his eyes would be blazing with anger that he really tried not to show but he wasn’t expecting the tears that formed in the corners of his eyes “And me…I would have to sit there in that church…You would matter to me! Nobody in this world can live in it without it affecting somebody else…If you want to leave then fine but do it in the morning…”
“Who the hell are you people?” Ohno asked his voice surprisingly flat and unemotional as he looked him over with suspicious eyes “Why do you care? I don’t know you and you don’t know me…So what does it matter to you...? I’ll stay…For tonight…And then I’m gone…So fast…”
“Or you could stay…” Nino whispered softly “And then maybe you could find people that matter to you…”
“And you think I could find that here…?” Satoshi asked half sarcastically but Nino didn’t take it as such desperate to stop him from at least going onto the moor at night.
“It’s a life changing place…Satoshi…” He said giving a shrug “You would get a warm bed, good food…Why run? Why not let my dad help you?”
