Nino flopped back into the bed feelings as if he had just completed a ten mile run and then climbed a mountain. Everything in his body was telling him that he couldn’t go on. It should have been easy to have the baby, it was after all just a matter of being cut open, but it wasn’t that simple. Masaki and Sho had been telling him that they had to wait for the right moment and…To his complete horror…He had sent the love of his life away not wanting him to be near him.
“Not long now Kazu…” Masaki whispered against his ear and Nino shook his head his eyes closing tightly as his body gave another shudder of pain.
“When?” He growled back trying to duck away from the hand that was wiping a wet and cold cloth across his forehead while Masaki just hummed;
“…Soon…”
“But it hurts! I don’t want it! Get it out!” Nino whined trying to glare at the doctors who had set up camp at the bottom of the bed staring at his stomach that was partially covered by a screen. The drugs that he was on were meant to be helping soothe away the pain but he was pretty sure that it had worn off a long time ago and now he was left with only the pain. He wanted Ohno but at the same time he would be happy if he never saw him again.
“Ssh…Your baby girl will be here soon and you will forget about all of this pain…I promise…” Masaki whispered soothingly and Nino knew that his friend was speaking the truth. He had asked Masaki to describe the feeling of labour once and he had said something like ‘It was indescribable, one minute it felt as if your whole body was being ripped apart and then the next minute it didn’t matter because you were looking down at a baby…None of the pain mattered when you had a wrinkled little face looking up at you’.
“I want Satoshi!” He whined squeezing at his friend’s hand and Masaki gave a chuckle squeezing back just as tightly. Nino half-chuckled, half-sobbed now his head suddenly feeling light as if he was floating and he supposed that his last bout of gas and air had finally taken effect. “I didn’t mean what I said! I love him! I’ve only ever loved him!”
“I know, I know…I can get him if you let go?” Masaki suggested and Nino found himself holding on more tightly than ever hissing loudly;
“Don’t leave! Need you! Always need you! Best friend…My Masaki idiot…”
“Yup…Your idiot…” Masaki laughed, his voice as bright as a bell and Nino shook his head wishing that he hadn’t when the room spun but he managed to say groggily;
“Not mine! Sho’s! always Sho’s you were so stupid! Should stay…”
“I am staying...I told you we were getting married…As soon as you’re baby…”
Nino was sure that there was a sharp intake of breath from somewhere at his feet and then a laugh before a muffled conversation but he was passed caring all he wanted was to meet his daughter. The pain was still there but it seemed perfectly normal now.
“Your daughter…She’s here…” Sakurai said and Nino blinked pushing through the fog to look up and see a slime covered, blueish pink blob being held up. She was quiet for a moment and then suddenly the room was filled with the loudest of shouts and Nino realised that Masaki was right the pain was nothing compared to what he was feeling now.
“Satoshi…Get Satoshi…” He breathed his heart dancing against his ribs as the baby was pressed against his chest her cries softening completely.
“I’ve been here the whole time…” Nino blinked slowly looking at the person he had thought was a doctor smiling when his mask was removed to reveal his husband who ambled over to him and pressed his lips to his forehead “Do you really think I’d leave you…Both of you…? I think she needs a name…”
