Bretby Hall part twenty-seven

krystalkatzficzOhno coughed discreetly behind his hand uncomfortably aware of the six or seven members of the press that were in front of him and the fact that his father was standing behind him. It had been almost gasp worthy when he and Nino had come back down after the younger guys little nap to find that not did his father have a bloody lip that almost matched his own but he was staying to do the press conference. Although he was sure that the bloody lip had gone some way to convincing him he was also sure that Akio who was standing behind Nino with his hands resting on his shoulders and beaming with pride had finally made him see sense in other ways. The world was moving forward and his company which prided itself on being a leader of innovation couldn’t be seen to be living in the past regardless of how sickening the CEO might find it.
“Prince Akio...Yamamoto-san…” An almost startled looking reporter started before flushing and going quiet looking around haplessly at his cohorts hoping that they might be willing to offer him a hand.
“You are wondering perhaps why we called you here so suddenly, well we will tell you…”
“Our children are dating…” Akio cut in swiftly with an unmistakable happy tang in his voice. The press looked startled for a second and then hurried to switch on their recording devices somehow managing to make more noise than seven people should.
“Dating? Then…That means that they are…”
“Homosexual, yes, I doubt that is the most interesting part about this story…” The prince sighed squeezing at his son’s shoulders holding up his hand “May I speak off the record?”
“Yes…”
“Thank-you…We have chosen you all because we know that you are trustworthy that you won’t release rubbish but facts and that is what we hope that you will do…”
“Of course…” The press said and Ohno was almost positive that all of them swelled with some pride and had a touch of smugness to their faces. Of course it was just trained politeness on Akio’s part, flatter the press that you could and they would be more than willing to help you out later…The people in front of him should know that too but how often was it that you actually got recognition from a prince?
“Thank-you…I should let my son and Satoshi speak but I know that I speak for Shuichi-san as well when I say that…It is the 21st century it saddens me that coming out should be such a bad thing or something that should be forced out of fear…My son is still young, he has made some very well documented mistakes in his life already but he is only a teenager and at that point in his life when he should be allowed to find himself at his own pace. Being who he is he hasn’t been allowed to that in private and even now when he is finally understanding himself and what he truly wants he has to sit here with you fine people and ‘admit to something’ like he is guilty of a crime when in reality he is guilty of nothing…” Akio sighed again squeezing at his son’s shoulders “So please go easy on them…”
“Of course…Prince Akio…” The men and women answered nodding their heads and Ohno had to admit that it was a good speech, better than anything he could think of at any rate. He was more hoping for a Q and A type situation as he hadn’t been expecting a speech. When the prince fell silent seven pairs of eyes and several cameras were suddenly on them and Ohno was positive that if he hadn’t thought Thomas would sell them out and hurt Nino just to get at him he would have run away and thrown up by now.
“We are dating…” He mumbled bluntly his hand going over to Nino’s and squeezing his fingertips lightly against his palm. “Like Prince Akio said…We are just figuring things out…I’ve only just convinced Nino…Um…Kazunari to date me…”
“He was holding out?”
“He was…Is confused…Like his dad said we are only just figuring ourselves out and in an ideal world we wouldn’t have to come out like this but…” Ohno let out a sigh squeezing his eyes shut wishing that his brain would allow him to think of something coherent to say but nothing was coming out as eloquently as Akio’s had “Unfortunately a member of staff here at our own school was threatening us…Me…He wanted to hurt me because I hurt him…I was fooling around with him out of boredom...I…That isn’t really important but…I made a mistake and then when I met Nino I realised…I changed, Nino changed me…Prince Akio thought that we should come out first…”
“A member of Bretby Hall? Was sleeping with a student? Does the headmistress know of this?” The press asked seemingly finding that more interesting than the fact that the heir of the second richest man in the world was dating the 6th in line to the Japanese throne. Of course when it was put like that it did seem like the bigger scandal. An older man seducing a vulnerable student but he didn’t want Thomas to be punished too harshly. The seducing had all been on his part.
“The esteemed Madame Chambers was unaware of this…” His own father said briskly speaking up for the first time since they had entered the room “Of course now that she is aware the matter is being dealt with in a serious way we can assure you…But as we are unsure of who the young man has told or shown these pictures to we would rather come forth and confirm the rumour before it becomes something that might hurt our children…”
“So you are supportive of the union?”
“…I admit that I had my objections…” Shuichi answered and Ohno very nearly let out a bark of laughter picturing the scene in the small sitting room again wondering how he could say that with a straight face and a completely calm voice. There was no way that his opinion would have changed in the hour and a half it had taken, not even with Akio punching him in the face as he had. “I was uncomfortable with the idea of my son being gay, I was a little old fashioned in my way of thinking but…My good friend Akio convinced me that I should accept my son as he is and not as I imagined him to be…”
“And you…Prince Akio you support your son?”
“Yes…Kazunari has always done what he was least expect to, for most of his life I wasn’t there to give advice or even tell him that I was proud of him but I am…Even with this bright new age there is going to be a lot of difficulties for them but I will be there for my son…”
“Do you think that a lack of parental guidance is what’s caused this? Kazunari-sama has been known to be wild before now…Couldn’t this be just another cry for attention? I mean forgive me Prince Akio but…As you say you have not always been there…Perhaps if you had your son would be normal…”
“I’m sorry I think that I didn’t understand you…Please define normal? I think that the human race is so vastly different from each other that no one thing could ever be defined as ‘Normal’ but isn’t that what makes us special?” Akio replied his voice so clipped now that Ohno was positive that if he turned round he would see the prince trying to destroy the reporter with his mind “If we were all the same we might as well just be ants or bees in a hive…I am straight my son is homosexual neither are the same but both are normal…There is a lot that I have to take the blame for with my son, and very little for which I can take credit…He looks more like his mum, he has my father’s personality, but…I will never have to take the blame for him being gay because there is no reason for blame…”

A/N: I’m sorry if this was all really overly emotional rubbish >.< I think Akio would have made a fine ruler! But then Nino would have been forced to marry a woman so it’s better this way ne :D I promise that now this is out of the way they will finely get their first date.
