“Come on…” Ohno called staring at the boy that he was determined to have as own one day. He had been certain of it since the day that he had seen him sitting awkwardly on the beach dressed almost all in black like a surly spectre. Okay he didn’t often go out of the way to chase after teenagers but something about the way the boy had been nervously staring at him with his beautiful dark eyes that had been so fearful and uncertain and he had become determined to change that, to give them life again. That feeling had only gotten stronger in the months that had passed since that first meeting.
It was an uphill struggle, Nino seemed to have the lowest self-esteem in the universe and although he seemed to be settling in well, but he was confident that he at least was getting through to him. He hadn’t yet managed to convince him that he was serious about starting a relationship with him but he was sure that that would come in time.
“I…Why are we going to the beach? It’s raining!” Nino whined loudly but allowing himself to be pulled along by Ohno’s hand firmly attached to his wrist. Ohno gave a laugh nodding as he felt the smattering of rain landing on his face and clinging to his hair. It wasn’t raining particularly heavily but enough that the tourists would be kept away meaning that they would have the whole beach to themselves, something that wasn’t easy to wrangle.
“Best time to go when you’re with you…There will be nobody else here…” Ohno pointed out as they started walking up the runway to the beach. Nino came to a complete stop staring up at him with those beautiful eyes that still hadn’t completely lost the shadows of mistrust that they had built up but they were slightly less doubtful now even though he was scowling as he growled;
“You…You’re not going to try and get me to swim are you?”
“No…That will come later…” Ohno laughed moving his hand down Nino’s so they were actually holding hands tightly their fingers linking together “I just wanted to walk along the beach holding your hand…”
“Wha-Why?”
“Because…if I do romantic things like this one day you will actually believe me when I say that I want to date you…” Ohno chuckled leading him up over the bank and on to the beach. Rain was hitting the surface of an otherwise calm ocean and Ohno couldn't deny that it was a beautiful sight to him “it was raining like this when I first came here…” he told the younger man as they set off down the beach “it's still beautiful to me even after seeing it so many times…”
“Why,..why did you come here? You said you were on holiday…” Nino stopped his cheeks burning bright as he fell silent about to apologise and quickly Ohno got in first smiling and squeezing his hand saying;
“If I answer you have answer a question of mine, okay?”
“Um okay…”
“Right…well like I said I came on holiday…you must be thinking that this issue strange place place for a guy to come alone and you'd be right…” Ohno gave a sigh using his free hand to move slowly through hair “…I was meant to be taking the trip with someone else…a guy that I was dating but he decided to break up with me instead…the room was already paid for so I decided to come anyway…best decision I've ever made…”
“I'm sorry…I didn’t mean to make you think about something so painful…” Nino said slowly hanging his head but Ohno gave a laugh squeezing the hand that was in his.
“It's not painful, Nino, not anymore…” he said honestly and confidently “I've moved on..so I get to ask my question now right?”
“I suppose so…” Nino shrugged managing to look so miserable about it Ohno felt almost guilty for asking;
“Why do you live with your sister and not your parents?”
“Because Nee-chan actually cares enough about me to bring me along…” Nino gave another shrug somehow looking uninterested or unmoved but Ohno thought it was the saddest thing that he had ever heard. He and seen the Ninomiya’s once when he had been helping to decorate the apartment and he had noticed that there was a lot less warmth between them and their son than there was between them and Amie but to hear it confirmed like that was a whole different thing altogether. Tugging his hand free he wrapped his arm around the teens shoulders and held him against his chest.
“I'm glad she brought you, Nino…they aren't worth you…one day I promise that you'll believe that…”
“Maybe…I still don't believe you fancy me though…” Nino grumbled his embarrassment clear by the blush in his cheeks and Ohno gave a laugh thinking how adorable he was and how fortunate he was that he had gotten him first.
“You will one day…”
“Keep telling yourself that…”
“Don't worry I will cause I am not giving up on you…”
