Living the Dream part 3

krystalkatzficzAfter his ex-wife had left Sho found himself staring awkwardly at his son who had stayed in the same spot holding tightly to his overnight back his face alight with a smile that seemed to be dimming the more the silence stretched out around them. Sho scratched awkwardly at the back of his head wondering when and how things had gotten so hard with his son. When they had lived together properly it had never been like this. He hadn’t always been there the way that a father should but they had found things to talk about, his school work perhaps or the shows that he was watching on TV, even the horrible meetings with the scary person in the suit hadn’t felt this strained.
“You…Are enjoying school?” He asked eventually and Shun gave a slow nod holding up his bag over his chest as if he was protecting himself and not for the first time that night Sho wanted Masaki. His lover had a way of breaking any tension, he had seen it multiple times when they were recording his shows. The children had been grouped together in nervous little pods at the start all staring at the man off the telly like he wasn’t real but with only a few words and a smile Masaki had them eating out of his hand. It was a miracle, Sho thought, more so because he couldn’t even get his son to talk to him. “Um are you hungry?” He asked thinking about the food that had been prepared for him by Masaki all ready and waiting to just be warmed up in the microwave. Shun shook his head slowly the smile he had had gone completely now “Um…TV? Or we could go out…There’s a park…”
“Masa-nii! Masa-nii!”
“Masa-nii?” Sho repeated slowly and dumbly trying to catch up with who his son was talking about while Shun was running for the TV and switching it on. Almost immediately the screen was filled with rainbow colours and the face of the man that Sho had been thinking about dressed in denim overalls and a yellow coat and hat that made him look like a pre-schooler as he began to sing the opening song of his show while doing the silly little dance, a silly little dance that Shun copied perfectly doing all of the spinning around movements and but wiggling before ending with the peace sign and wink. “You like Masa-nii, Shun-kun?”
“Yes! He is my favouritest person! He takes care of bunnies! Do you like Masa-nii, papa?” Shun asked bouncing up and down as the on screen Masaki was talking about hamsters as pets. Sho could remember the filming of this episode and that Masaki had named the grey and black hamster ‘Sho-chan’ after him.
“Yes…Can you keep a secret Shun-kun?” Sho answered coming closer to his son who was nodding happily “Masa-nii is my best friend…”
“Daddy! Masa-nii isa not real! He lives in the TV!” Shun giggled in a tone of voice that suggested that he should have known that simple fact. “Silly daddy!”
“Oh…So you don’t want to meet him?” Sho asked hoping against hope that Masaki hadn’t decided to go out while also apologising in his mind for using his connection to the idol as a way of connecting with his son. “We could go and see him if you wanted…”
“Ah! I wanna see! I wanna see!”
“Okay then…Let’s go!”
