“What are you going to tell the cubs?” Nino asked as he slid into the bed beside his lover pulling the warm furs over his skinny frame. He supposed that they could just skip the most awkward part of their love story but a small part of him wanted the children to know everything.
“The truth…” Ohno shrugged his arms wrapping around him tightly as his lips came down onto his cheek. It was a warm and comfortable feeling and he gave a happy sigh that came out like a purr rubbing his cheek against the lips. “I changed you to save your life...And the rest of our story isn’t that bad...Don’t you think?”
“Of course, I told you already I wouldn’t change any of it…It was just…Difficult…” Nino sighed his eyes closing as he leaned even further into his lover’s arms. His legs locking with Ohno’s. He had been brought up in a monastery, taught to believe in things that didn’t cover were-creatures so to wake up and find out that he had been changed was something that had been difficult to accept. Ohno flashed him a guilty look sucking hard on his bottom lip and whispering;
“I’m sorry…”
“Not your fault, you saved my life…” Nino said poking his lover in the stomach with his fingertip before allowing his body to relax fully and he closed his eyes tightly knowing that his dreams were going to be filled with the time just after his change.

“You brought a human here?” Sakurai growled angrily tying the obi around his waist as Aiba worked on Nino trying to save both his life and his leg. The cut had been deeper than even Ohno had realised nicking the main artery and causing him to bleed even more than he had first feared. Aiba was a skilled healer, better than any butcher in the village, but he was used to working on the were-creatures that were a lot sturdier than any fragile novice. Ohno gave a little shrug turning to his overly worried beta and saying calmly;
“I had no choice…He would have died out there in the forest…”
“He might die here…And then what?” Sakurai growled in response. It wasn’t a threatening growl just a noise that let Ohno know how worried he was about the pack and the threat that Nino could pose if anything were to happen. That state of worry existed in him as well but if all went well Nino would be going on his merry way as soon as he was able to walk and they would be left in peace.
“We tell them the truth…I found him in the forest he was bleeding I brought him here where I knew there was a skilled healer…But he won’t die…Masaki is too skilled to let him die…” Ohno said looking at his healer who was too focused on healing to pay attention to the praise that he was being given.
“You…” Sakurai stopped sniffing at the air with a puzzled frown on his face, a face that had grown a strange shad of whitish grey before questioned weakly “Have you scented him? A human?”
“…No…Well yes…But not much…Just enough to cover the scent of his blood…Not as much as you and Masaki were doing when we arrived…” Ohno said with a smile at his beta wondering if he would ever claim the healer as his own. They had seemed to be floating around each other for years and it seemed that there was going to be a lot longer before they finished their dance. Sakurai’s narrowed into two sharp points as colour filled his cheeks. He looked embarrassed but somehow he managed to sound perfectly normal as he grumbled;
“That is perfectly normal, Masaki is a member of the pride while you are the alpha and that is a human…”
“A human that is fading…Sho-chan if you want to criticise do it later for now go out and get me more willow roots…” Aiba snapped looking up from Nino his face a picture of panic and Ohno felt his heart fall down passed his knees “…Leader I need your help…”
“What can I do?” he asked moving over to the table and looking at the deathly pale face of the novice something inside of him breaking even though he couldn’t explain why. It looked like he was already dead he was so still. Aiba waited until Sakurai had left the hut before whispering gently;
“…There is nothing that you can do…He is going to die…”
“But…That isn’t possible…It is only a small cut…” Ohno growled at the healer looking at the wound in Nino’s leg deciding that it was not just a small cut, but Nino had been fine while in the river…A little pale and shaking…But still ready to beat him over the head with a stick…It wasn’t possible that he was going to die.
“If you changed him…He would survive…But…By changing him when you are unmated…You would have to claim him as your own…” Aiba hummed and Ohno froze for just a fraction guessing why Sakurai had been sent away. He had been indifferent about finding a mate that was true and maybe if things were different he wouldn’t have picked Nino, a human, but things were what they were and he nodded slowly.
“I understand…”

Nino groaned as he opened his eyes. His whole body ached with a sweet pain as he tried to push himself into a seated position only to be held down by a gentle hand on his chest and a sweetly husky voice saying;
“You should stay down for a little longer…Or at least until the room stops spinning! Or you will throw up…”
“What…Who…Who are you…You smell…Weird…” Nino mumbled realising that was true as his nose wrinkled at the sour and spicy scent that was flowing off of the man that was hovering over him. It was that thick a smell that it felt as if he was being punched in the face by it and he tried to move away wincing when the muscles in his body throbbed in protest of the movement. The sour scent moved closer like a thick cloud against his nostrils but it was soon pushed away by a different scent, a warm sweet scent of honey and flowers.
“Hey little monk…You’re finally awake…” The honey sweet scent said calling out to him and forcing him to twist and coil trying to get closer to him. He gave an almost beastly whine that only abated when the cool hand came out and ran down his side “Ssh…It will be okay…I promise…I’ll explain everything…”
