Jun gulped, pushing down a lump that had formed in the back as his throat, staring into those beautiful eyes for an impossibly long time his hand still holding Ninomiya’s hand tightly. It was so small against his and it felt so right in his palm. Ninomiya continued to smile shyly, the flush on his cheeks deepening as his eyes partially closed spreading the thin black lashes down over his pale cheeks. Ninomiya was small for a third year high school student and that was only made more pronounced by the fact that the clothes he was wearing were just ever so slightly too big adding to the fragile, cute appearance and Jun immediately seemed to understand the scary guys from earlier and the way they seemed to want to protect him...He was unbelievably cute…There wasn’t another word that could describe it.
“What is he staring at?” A voice demanded loudly and Jun jolted blinking a few times as he swallowed down another lump his own cheeks going red as he dropped the hand and stepped around from him well aware that the other guys from Turin were getting well and truly restless and were audibly displaying their displeasure until Taguchi stepped forwards her hands up saying loudly;
“Well since everybody knows their roles we can get started, take out your scripts…Ninomiya-kun and Matsumoto-san”
Jun nodded numbly stumbling his way back to his group while Ninomiya gave a nod dipping his head and going back to the Turin club, who all shuffled and surrounded him quickly looking like an armed guard while glaring at Jun with hostile eyes. At the sight Jun managed to bling and come back to his sense not wanting to believe what had just happened.
“So what do you think?” Aiba asked in ear his elbow jabbing hard into his side causing him to grunt out in pain and Jun looked, almost reluctantly, back at his co-star surprised to see that some of the crowd had dispersed leaving him standing almost alone. His only guard now being a taller broader student with a puffy rounded face and large muscles for somebody that was only meant to be a high school student. Ninomiya caught him staring and flushed again coiling his body into the taller guy’s chest.
“He looks cute but can he even act?” Jun shrugged in a whisper, looking at Ninomiya he looked too shy to play a main character, much less Juliet. He couldn’t deny that he was cute…It was there for all to see and in a dress with a wig Ninomiya could easily pass as being a girl but if he let his shyness get in the way like he was now there was going to be no way that he could impress his parents enough. He had said it quietly his question quietly to his friend but somehow one of the Turin students had overheard him and soon they were all buzzing with anger their glares deepening as they were jostling each other and pointing in his direction. The only one that didn’t seem to be angry or insulted by his question was Ninomiya who had continued to smile shyly at him.
“I guess the Hitachi students need to see our little Nino in action, ne?” Taguchi said trying to calm them down, though it wasn’t working very well “Nino-chan, how about we go with the most iconic scene? Where Juliet’s on the balcony…”
“Yes, sensei” Nino said quickly opening the script that had been offered by the muscular guy and Jun watched as he found the correct page and allowed his eyes to scan it quickly his mouth moving over the words before handing it back to his guard. Instead of coming back to the centre of the room he Ninomiya moved to the stage and climbed up the steps. There was a buzz of excitement from the Turin students and it wasn’t long before the same excitement was matched by the Hitachi students who all scrambled to sit on the floor watching the boy on the stage. Nino was standing in the centre with his hands out in front of him breathing deep for just a few minutes before he looked up smiling wastefully now a frown appearing in the centre of his forehead as his whole body slumped. Jun felt another lump watching to see how he would act in what was just a rehearsal.
“Ay me!” Nino sighed heavily, walking around the stage as he pressed to his temple and nibbled on his lip with a troubled expression on his face. “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet.” His voice was clearer and crisper than it had been before ringing around the hall as if there were speakers helping it, but at the same time it was softer and managed to sound slightly higher pitched. Jun was positive if he closed his eyes it would be able to imagine a female reciting the lines, but he didn’t want to close his eyes in case he missed the expressions on Nino’s face. They were all subtle but they were there as if he really was feeling the mixture of confused thoughts and not just quoting them from the play.
“'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man.” As he spoke Ninomiya walked around the stage carefully doing the actions, like showing his hand before touching his face and twisting around and throwing his arms into the air “O, be some other name! What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet;” Jun was well and truly blown around by the performance and more than once he had to remind himself that this was just a rehearsal. It was already near perfect and the speech that had never made much sense to him was completely clear now and he doubted that he had ever been as beautiful as it was right now, one quick look at his club mates told him that he wasn’t the only one that was being affected. “So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, Retain that dear perfection which he owes without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name which is no part of thee…Take all myself”
As soon as Ninomiya had finished the speech he was stood once again in the centre of the stage the blush coming back into his cheeks so quickly it was like it had been summoned there by magic. Both the Turin and Hitachi clubs clapped loudly, some letting out loud wolf whistles, which just added to the very pretty colour that was on Ninomiya’s cheeks.
“I guess that settles it ne?” Sakamoto asked nudging Jun’s arm and Jun nodded quickly. There was no question in his mind now that Ninomiya could handle the role, in fact based on this alone he knew that even his parents would be blown away “Well if there’s no other…”
“Wait how do we know he’s good enough to co-star with Nino?” One of the Turin students asked stopping them all clapping as they turned around to glare at him again and Jun wasn’t surprised nor could he blame them since he had just questioned their star.
“I guess there’s only one way… Same scene” Sakamoto said with a sigh pushing him forward. Jun nodded, reluctantly as he licked his lips with nerves. He hated doing things like this out of the blue, he always had, he preferred to read and reread the script until it sank in, but he really didn’t want to be bad in front of Ninomiya… Of Turin not just Ninomiya, he corrected himself with a metal hiss as he searched through the script. His hands were shaking so much that it took him forever to find the part he wanted. He read through the lines carefully before tossing it to Aiba who gave him a bright grin and thumbs up sign. Jun ignored the expression in his friend’s face and licked his lips again before walking forward and staring at the stage as he began to recite,
“But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief” Turning from the stage a fraction he looked up at the light that was above him comparing it to the moon. “That thou her maid art far more fair than she: Be not her maid, since she is envious; her vestal livery is but sick and green and none but fools do wear it; cast it off. It is my lady, O, it is my love! O that she knew she were!” He gasped turning back to the stage again as if Ninomiya had only just appeared there his heart jumping almost frantically as he said the lines ‘It is my love’. He ignored the glares of the other Turin students and slowly he walked up the steps, managing to pretend that they were the only two people in the room. “She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that? Her eye discourses; I will answer it. I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks: Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, having some business, do entreat her eyes to twinkle in their spheres till they return.” Jun paused on the step his head tilting just slightly to one side “What if her eyes were there, they in her head? The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars, As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven Would through the airy region stream so bright That birds would sing and think it were not night. See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O, that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!”
Jun blinked as he finished his lines, almost horrified when he realised that he had moved further up the steps his hand out stretched closer towards Ninomiya as if he was trying to touch his cheek and he had never been more disappointed that he hadn’t.
“Well I would say that they are perfect for the roles…Now I think we should begin…”
