Sho doubted if he had ever enjoyed being in town as much as he did that day. There was something about the almost naïve excitement that was in Masaki’s face that gave him a reflected joy in his surroundings. There so many places that he had found himself in that he would never have even dreamed about before. The statue that his husband had brought for the queen was the best example of this. There was no doubt in his mind that Aurora would love the gift and would display it along with the finest china and gold that had been given to her and the king as gifts but he would never have thought to buy the queen of the country something so…Pure and cheap. Even with the extra his lover had given to the man it was still going to be the cheapest object in the main parlour of the palace. All of Masaki’s gifts were like that, personal and joyful…Something that each member of the family would love but never buy for themselves. For Sho it was a sign of how good his lover was at reading people and judging emotions and he couldn’t believe that he thought that he was stupid for not being able to read and write…The things that he was able to do far outweighed that.
“I just need something for Kazu…” Masaki hummed now as they walked along the street followed by some street urchins that they had paid to carry their goods around. There was no fear that the boys were going to make off with the goods as almost every shop and stall they came to Masaki beamed at them and told them what good boys they were. Something like that shouldn’t have worked, the boys were almost all teens and even with the way Ohno treated people they should still have been rude but each and every one of the youths stood a little straighter and seemed fiercely protective of their charges.
“Gov’ if your man was a woman…” One of the boys said now winking his eye suggestively and in spite of the rude remark Sho found himself grinning along and nodding;
“I am rather fond of him as he is…”
“He’s a bit of all right and no mistake…You toffs are normally so lardeedar…Present company excluded yer grace…” The youth said flashing him a smile that strangely white against the dirt that was caking his face. Sho felt a small pang of guilt that they were trailing around after them and he wondered why they were on the streets in the first place.
“Thank-you, for you compliment! You are alright to!” Masaki said happily completely missing the sexual aspect of what the boy had been saying about him and Sho grinned as the boy almost stood to attention before flashing him a grin again “I am looking for a winter gift for my friend…You must know everything around here! What I am looking for is something to do with falcons…”
“I know gov’! This way…” The youth said pushing between them and marching them off down the road back the way that they had come. “You be wanting old Willy…”
“Old Willy?” Sho asked bowing his head apologetically at a couple of titled ladies that their unofficial but very enthusiastic guide had almost knocked flying. The boy nodded frantically giving a laugh as he righted the packages that was in his arms directing them once again out of the sleek areas of town and into the rougher residential area. The slums were almost non-existent now with all of the new developments that Ohno had encouraged but in his mind Sho could still hear his parents telling him that no respectable boy was ever seen in the slums and he found himself holding onto Masaki’s arm just a little more tightly.
“Yup! Everyone reckons he’s crazy! But I think he’s blooming marvellous…You just wait and see gov!” Their guide said happily weaving them in and out of the backstreets until they were by the river with the scent of the salt rushing over their noses. With it being a harsh winter the river had frozen over meaning that none of the boats and ships that would normally litter the banks of the river were there but that didn’t seem to bother their guide who kept them walking to a small shack which was covered in a thick blanket of snow. “Will! Willy, it’s Adam and I gots some proper gents wanting to look at your birds…” ‘Old Willy’ pushed open the door of his shack and ambled out on old legs smiling a little gap toothed smile at the boy who Sho knew was called Adam and Sho’s heart twitched a little painfully when he saw the knife in his hands. He thought for one wild moment that they had been had and were going to be both murdered and robbed until Adam turned and smiled at them again “Willy does whittling on drift wood…Willy show ‘em your birds they wants to see them falcons yer do…”
“Birds…?” Willy repeated slowly and Sho’s hand flailed around helplessly as his once nervous husband stepped forward smiling happily saying;
“You do whittling, Will? May I see?”
“Birds!” Willy said turning on his heel and stomping back into his shack before coming out again with his hands clasping what could only be described as a seagull but made out of wood. It was perfect in every detail from the eyes to the little beak and the tiny detail of the feathers. It was incredible and it wasn’t alone as Sakurai took a step forward he saw that the entire shack was covered in the perfect little sculptures. Willy just continued to grin holding up his figure and saying happily “Birds!”

Jun smiled as he watched his husbands eyes move around the store that he had brought him to. It wasn’t exactly a shop in the strictest sense of the word but he had always found it to be a truly amazing place even if it was so hot that it was stifling. The blacksmith had looked surprised to see them coming into his yard and for a moment or two he had paused in his work to watch them before he had sighed and worked used to Jun’s visits since he was a small child. His father had brought him here once and he had all but fallen in love with it. He had been completely amazed at the way seemingly useless lumps of metal could be heated up until they were bright red and then moulded into anything that the man wanted with just a few hits of the hammer. He had always longed to try such a thing but he understood that it was a valuable material…Far too valuable for somebody like him to get wrong.
“What…What is he making?” Kazu whispered gently sounding as interested as he was and Jun opened his mouth to speak when the man cut in first with a rough;
“He is making a horseshoe, your lord…”
“I…Please forgive me…I…I did not mean to offend…I…Just…I did not wish to disturb you in your work…It…Is amazing…” Kazu stammered looking completely mortified that he seemed to have upset the man and Jun questioned the wisdom of coming here. He should have taken his husband somewhere more refined and safe. The blacksmith looked up from the horseshoe his hammer hovering high above his head before he paused his head cocking to one side and asked;
“Lord…Are you…Related to Lady Kazuko…Formerly of the Black Rock?”

A/N: Old man Willy is based on a real man…He could be found pacing back and forth on Skegness beach when I was a child. He made the most beautiful figures out of the things that he found so I thought I would include him J I’m sorry for taking so long to write this and if it’s boring! I promise that I will pick it up but filler was needed to help the story flow >.<
