krystalkatzficz“You…Are free, Nino…Congratulations…” Ohno smiled happily at the stunned face of the boy next to him. Nino blinked a few times looking like he still didn’t believe it and he was watching the police officers warily as they made their way out of the court. It had taken Ohno two and a half hours to present his case and have another member of his office try to rip it apart but it had only taken the judge fifteen minutes to not only decide that Nino was innocent but that he deserved a very healthy lump sum for damages caused. His boy was now a free man with enough money for him to be able to start over in whatever life that he wanted to create for himself. “Nino…”
“Nino!” A voice screamed and Ohno turned in amazement to see a boy in his very early twenties running towards them with tears rolling down his face followed by the doctor that had performed Nino’s medical examination and had acted as a key witness. Nino blinked a few more times his face going from grey, to red, then to white as he slowly got to his feet just in time to be jumped by the over excited twenty year old.
“Masaki?! You…I…You…I thought…I thought you were dead…” Nino whispered and Ohno honestly felt the oxygen leave his lungs as he stared at the man that was crushing his Nino…His Nino…That was a startling possessive thought but he refused to think of him as anything but his Nino now…This was the person that had given so much to help him and the others?
“Very nearly, but Sho-chan…He saved me…And the others…” Masaki nodded letting him go so much that he could smile at him the tears still rolling down his cheeks and Ohno noticed that there was something close to tears in Nino’s face as he looked from his friend to the doctor a slow realisation coming into his eyes
“You…You were there when the kids were taken…” He mumbled and Ohno cleared his throat delicately aware that the same glaring court official was back and once again shooting them daggers. It was a very delicate matter now as his star witness was somehow related to his Nino if the case wasn’t already won any evidence that he had presented could have been thrown out.
“I think that we should withdraw…I think my apartment will be a more comfortable place for a reunion…” He said well aware that he was still locked in his perfect lawyer mode around the two men. It was clear that Nino had softened him but not enough for him to lose that edge. The strange group left the courthouse together and Sakurai followed him in his car while the two friends sat in the backseat talking rapidly about what they had missed over the three years that they had been apart.
“When I got out of the hospital we went straight to the children’s home but you weren’t there…” Masaki whispered sounding as if he was going to start crying again “The kids told me that you ran when you saw the vans…We’ve been looking for you…I knew that you would move around…Every weekend we travelled on the train…When Sho-chan told me that he had found you I couldn’t believe it…I wanted to come to you straight away but he said that if I did he wouldn’t be able to act as a witness! Oh Nino! You know…I never wanted you to have that life…You can come live with me now…I run a children’s home…Sho-chan’s parents helped fund it…The kids…Most are still there!”
Ohno’s hands clenched tightly on the steering wheel as he chewed on his bottom lip staring at the road ahead guessing that Nino wouldn’t need his help anymore.
