“Hey…” Ninomiya Kazunari said quietly, a smile forming on his lips as he reached out and grabbed a hold of his secret lover’s hand being careful to make sure that there was nobody around them. The older boy at the locker jolted for a moment and then relaxed when he saw who it was that had him. His round, slightly chubby, face broke into a grin as his sleepy little eyes lifted so they were sparkling at him and Nino grinned to himself his heart, and admittedly cock, twitching at the sight. He and Ohno Satoshi had been friends for almost ever, having lived their whole lives only three doors away from each other but they had become something more than friends when they had started school. He wasn’t completely sure how it had happened, one minute they had been sharing jokes in their dorm room the next he had been laid on his back with his childhood friend’s tongue down his throat but he didn’t regret it, though he did regret joining the baseball team and becoming something of a star as it meant that the time that they could actually spend together was almost non-existent and that showed when Ohno’s face clouded over and he turned back to his locker.
“Hey…Long time no see…” Ohno replied grabbing his artist sketch book with his free hand before tugging the other out of his grip.
“Oh-chan…Don’t be like that…It was just one night…Come on…” Nino whined grabbing his arm and tugging him towards a classroom that he knew would be empty at this time of day. They had almost made it when a bunch of his teammates had come over to him and were forcing him and his lover apart.
“Hey, Nino…You were awesome…2 homeruns…” One said and Nino tried to grin along watching as his lover smiled with a touch of sadness in his eyes and then headed off leaving him to be swept to his own classroom away from his sleepy faced counterpart. He should have protested, he knew that but he was so terrified of being outted that he stayed silent listening to the mindless droning on his friends waiting for the bell to ring for lunch.
“Oh-chan! I’m sorry…About earlier…” He gasped running into the art room two hours later, glad when he saw his lover sitting in front of a desk painting slowly. The man didn’t look up and Nino bit on his lip nervously for a moment or two, wondering if he had completely blown it with his lover. He wouldn’t even be able to blame him if he had. He knew that if the role were reversed he would be feeling as angry as anything. “Oh-chan…Please…Don’t give me the silent treatment…”
“I’m not, I’m just busy…” Ohno sighed seemingly reluctantly pulling his eyes up from the painting he was working on and asking “What are you doing in here anyway? Shouldn’t you be out there celebrating the game?”
“No point if you’re not there…You know that…I wanted you to be there…”
“I had a thing…” Ohno mumbled blandly and Nino froze his heart clenching inside his chest as he realised that yesterday was his lover’s first show of the school year. He had promised to be there, just like he had promised to be there last year but instead he had been out drinking with the guys and pretending that he found the girls that were flirting with him attractive.
“Shit…Why didn’t you tell me?”
“…I didn’t see the point…” Ohno rolled his shoulders in a shrug and then turned back to his painting effectively cutting off the conversation and Nino was positive that this was some kind of break-up. A break up that he didn’t want.
“Don’t…Don’t leave me, Oh-chan…” He whispered dropping down onto his knees and shuffling forward to him so he could hold onto his legs tightly. “Please…I know that I’ve been a shitty boyfriend…But don’t leave me…Please…I’ll do anything that you want but don’t…Please…”
“…Okay…There’s the school play…They’re holding auditions tonight…Go and I might forgive you…” Ohno agreed and Nino was tempted to curse. The school play…Run by the school drama club was full of losers and of course his lover. It was almost social suicide to even go to the thing but he knew that if that’s what it would take he would do it.
“Fine…I’ll be there…I promise…” He said with a smile and to his relief Ohno’s hand came down to brush at his cheek his eyes much warmer again as he looked at him.
“Okay…But I really am busy now…So I’ll see you at four in the drama room?” The older man said and Nino nodded kissing the palm of his lover with a smile. He got to his feet and headed out of the art room bumping almost into two of the girls that he had been with last night. They grinned at him and panic raced through his body more so when they pressed up against him asking;
“Hey, had fun last night…What are you doing after school?”
“Um…I…Have plans…” He answered trying to move out of their hands suddenly feeling too hot and bothered in his own skin. Both the girls pouted at the same time somehow managing to look like twins as they continued to speak at the same time;
“Can’t you change them? A bunch of us are going to that café in town…”
“Sorry…I’ve got a thing…I can’t change it…Sorry…A rain check?” He lied knowing that he wouldn’t be happy with either or both of these girls since that was what they seemed to be offering him. When they nodded though he almost sighed with relief glad when he was able to finally get away from them. He didn’t bother with heading for the cafeteria knowing that it would be too busy and went straight back to his classroom regretting that when he saw that most of his team were eating their bentos at the desks. They called him over and instantly started talking about going into the small town near the school but once again Nino shook his head smiling “Sorry…Not today…I’ve got a thing, some other time…”
After the bell rang for the end of class he darted out of the classroom knowing that his so called friends would grab him and take him no matter what if he didn’t and he hid in a toilet stall until he was sure that it was safe to come out again. The halls of the school were almost empty as he made his way to the drama room wondering about the things that he would do for love. He pushed open the door and spotted his lover standing with his back to him. Ohno seemed completely at ease but Nino could tell that he was watching his watch and he tiptoed over to him sliding his hands over his face and whispering;
“Hey…”
“You…Are here?” Ohno whispered in surprise turning to stare at him with a completely disbelieving expression on his face and Nino smiled his cheeks flushing just a little well aware that there was a muffled conversation going on around them.
“Of course…I told you I would be…So…What do you want me to do?”
“Um…I…You really came? You said that it was social suicide to be anywhere near the drama club…”
“I did and it is…But…I’m near you…So…the rest of it can go to hell as far as I’m concerned…” he answered knowing that it wasn’t going to be as easy as he was making it sound. Tomorrow there would be questions, then teasing, until eventually any credit that he may have built up on the team would be gone but he was right about one thing as long as Ohno continued to smile at him the way that he was he was positive that it could all go to hell.
