"A healer? Why…Would…I…” Kazu stammered staring at the king who smiled gently and lifted his hand to cup at his cheek. It was a gentle touch and in no way threatening but Kazu felt fear in his heart and he turned his face away wanting to coil into himself waiting for the attack to come. Satoshi gave him another smile and let his hand drop away so it was once again hanging limply at his side as he told him gently;
“It is not a bad thing…You have so few people that you can trust…There of course is your mother and Masaki but…I imagine that you would find it difficult to speak to them…A healer will be neutral…Somebody that you can talk to without the fear of anybody else finding out…”
“Are you…Telling me that I should do this?” Kazu asked slowly staring into the sleepy eyes of the king knowing that he would not be able to refuse a direct order from the king even if he wanted to. He had never heard of such a thing before and he couldn’t see how talking would help the confused and churning emotions that were inside of him.
“No…Nobody will force you into anything that you do not want my son…” Satoshi smiled again and Kazu found happiness in his heart at the term son. It rolled so freely off of the man’s tongue that it felt wonderful. “But I would suggest it…And recommend such a thing…”
“Have you…Spoken to a healer?”
“…I have somebody that I talk to…People often make the mistake of thinking that there can be no helped gained from the simple act of talking but from person experience I have found that having somebody to listen helps more than anything...I promise that it will help you if you give it a try, my son…” Satoshi smiled again and then motioned for him to follow him back into the palace as Kazu digested that information. The king was right that there were things that he could not bring himself to tell his mother or Masaki. He knew that Jun had claimed he was not failing in his duty to him but in his heart he knew that he was.
“If you recommend it, I can try it…” He said hoping that the healer would be able to tell him how he could be a good husband to Jun. Satoshi’s eyes moved over his face for a moment, seemingly studying him as closely as he would his chessboard and Kazu tried desperately to make himself look calmer than he felt, he even gave a smile but it fell flat making him just look pained in the face. Eventually the king nodded patting his shoulder and letting out a long hum saying;
“Very well I will arrange it for you…Now I should see about getting you back to your husband before he believes that I have kidnapped you…”
“You…You are a good papa…” Kazu whispered shyly as they walked through the snow back into the palace where a servant was waiting with two warmed blankets and a hot toddy. Satoshi gave a laugh two spots of colour appearing in both his cheeks his eyes dancing happily in his face as he replied with a very embarrassed;
“Thank-you…I admit that I was rather lost when I was given my first child…I do not think anybody really knows what to do with children…But I find them delightful now…Jun will always hold a special place in my heart as I think he was the first of my children that followed me constantly…Whenever I turned around he was there and of course people often upset him with loose tongues…”
“He told…He told me once that…That people said you…Were not…His father, because you are not alike…But…I think they are wrong…” Kazu said shakily looking down at his feet his cheeks burning brightly now “You…You and he are very much alike…”
“You know, my wife said the same the other day…I said that Jun was like her but she said he was like me…I think you are both right...Thank-you, Kazunari…” The king paused in his steps opening the door of the family parlour and Kazu smiled at his mother and Masaki who were sitting in the squishy chairs. “I will leave you with your mother…”
“Thank-you for Loki…” Kazu whispered his excitement at the gift. It was his first ever gift and he was looking forward to being able to train with the bird. Satoshi gave him another gentle smile and then to his surprise he moved forward and pressed his lips to his forehead.
“You are very welcome my son…”

Masaki smiled as he watched his brother and the king. They may have had a rocky start but now it seemed that Kazu had completely won the man over. It was a heart-warming sight for him as he felt that Kazu deserved his newly found happiness and he couldn’t wait to find out who or what Loki was. The king bowed at them all and kissed his wife’s hand before leaving them alone in the comfortable warmth again. Kazu stood awkwardly at the door, looking a little sheepish until Masaki jumped up from his chair and dragged him over to the chair that was closest to the fire when he realised how cold he was saying brightly;
“Who…Or what is Loki?”
“Loki…Um…The king…He gave me a falcon as a present…” Kazu answered and Masaki grinned at the sparkle that came to his brother’s eyes. He knew how much Kazu had liked falconry until the former lord Ninomiya had gotten rid of it just to spite him “He is a beautiful bird…The son of the king’s bird…He said that he would also teach me how to train him…I have never been given such a beautiful present before…”
“I am glad that you are so happy, brother…” Masaki smiled again surprised when Kazu frowned his head cocking to one side asking gently;
“Masaki…Is something wrong? You…Seem strange…”
“Not strange…Upset…Sho’s parents came to us last night and offered me money to leave him…When I refused and Sho kicked them out, they went to the king…” Masaki sighed his shoulder slumping as he slouched down into the chair. The three women had done their very best to cheer him up and he agreed that it was pointless for him to try and change but he felt like there was something deeply wrong with him. It was true that he was just a ward but was it really impossible for them to just want somebody that would make their son happy? “The king did not like what they were saying either and Lord Sakurai was arrested…Sho is asking the king to let him out…But…”
“He should stay in there and rot…” Kazu growled his face flashing with his old spark, something that he had been missing for so long it was like he had been talking to somebody else. “…You do not think that Sho will regret it? Because you would be truly stupid if you do…”
“I do not…I know that Sho loves me…But I just wish they could have left us alone…” Masaki sighed his arms folding across his chest his eyes fixed on the flickering fire for just a minute or two before he shook himself and grinned as brightly as possible “Hey…Kazu…Would you like to build a snowman with me?”
“I…”
“Come on…!” Masaki shouted grabbing his brother’s hand and dragging him out of the room surprised when both Aurora and Kazuko giggled loudly saying;
“Wait for us! We can have a competition!”
