Against His Will part 16

Yun came in a few minutes later carrying a tray and a change of clothes draped over his arm, clothes that seemed to be no better than pyjamas so he supposed that he was set for the night here in this room. He wasn’t sure if it was Jun’s decision or Yun’s but whatever he was he was glad that he had some breathing space from his husband for the moment. The manservant placed the tray down onto the side and then came over to him taking up the bowl that Jun had dropped and began to wordlessly wash his back. They stayed in silence for a moment and when Kazu closed his eyes he could almost imagine that he was a child again back in his bedroom with a younger Yun washing his hair and telling him stories of dragons and knights.

“Yun…” Kazu whispered opening his eyes again and staring at the far wall biting on his bottom lip as his hands made swirling movements in the water letting the flower petals move between his fingers. Yun didn’t falter in his task of washing his hair but he did whisper very quietly;

“Yes, my lord…”

“What do you think of my husband?”

“My lord?”

“I…You are the only person I can trust that will give me an honest answer…I…Please do not disappoint me…Tell me…Do you think him a nice man?”

“…I think him a soldier, my lord…Those that have travelled long in his company clearly think well of him and he does them…But…I have seen that there are times that he is blunt to the point of cruelty…” Yun murmured with all the honesty that Kazu been hoping for and he had to agree with that statement from his manservant. “I have heard it say that the king favoured him in many of the ways that your father favoured your pig of brother…”

“Yun!” Kazu gasped his eyes wide as he turned to look at the stony faced old man whose hands were still on his hair “I have never heard you say such a thing before!”

“As I was in your father’s house I could not but I had thought it and more many times and I will not apologise…” The man said with a low growling not to his voice “Your brother and father treated you very ill, my lord and it pained me to see it…Even in this wedding…”

“It is a good match…” Kazu whispered flushing at the emotion he could hear in the weatherworn voice now. It was something that he had not heard from his servant in a very long time and he swallowed down a lump and turned away from him as Yun nodded letting out a hum as he said;

“Indeed it is but if it were me I would have allowed a year to pass before the ring was slipped on your finger…You find it difficult to talk to people that you do not know and I believe that it is the same for the prince…”

“…You think him…shy…?” Kazu asked in surprise trying to see where the man would have gotten that impression. From what he had seen his husband was far from being shy if anything he had an over confidence that was bordering on arrogance.

“No, my lord…I think him unused to dealing with people like you, my lord…People that require delicate handling…” Yun said carefully and Kazu gave a bitter laugh looking down at himself and seeing only gangly arms and legs and a stomach that wasn’t completely flat but not from muscle either. He had never been the outdoor type preferring to stay near his mother who was the only one that didn’t scowl at him. He heaved out a sigh and asked;

“…You also think I am weak?”

“…No…You have strength…But it is your mother’s strength…The prince is used to dealing with a livelier sort of man…” Yun cleared his throat and filled the bowl with some water before pouring it down over his head before saying “..But that is not what you asked me, you asked me what I think of your husband and you wanted an honest answer and so I give it…I believe that under all the awkwardness and pomp he is a good man…But you will both have to learn to adapt to each other…I think that the prince…Unlike your father…Would be willing to do such a thing…”

“The girl is very fond of you, my husband…” Masaki said smiling as he watched the girl who was continuously looking at Sakurai her cheeks flushing before she looked away and went back to her work. Sakurai let out a laugh nodding as he took a slurp the stew and Masaki did the same. It wasn’t as good as the food at the Ninomiya’s but it was filling and warm and that, coupled with the bright cheery fire, warmed him from the inside out.

“I have stopped in this inn every time that I came to visit you…I have seen her grow up…I bring her gifts when I come through…”  Sakurai told him and Masaki felt a rush of love towards his husband before taking another look at Marsha realising that she won’t be able to see his husband again when as he had already stated that he would not be returning to the Ninomiya house.

“She is going to be sad then when you no longer come back…”

“…Actually…” Sakurai mumbled swallowing down a lump of chicken “When we leave here tomorrow she will be accompanying us…”

“What…But…You cannot take her from her parents…”

“They asked me, my husband…She does not want to stay in the inn…She wishes to be a maid in my home…” Sakurai explained but Masaki continued to frown wondering why anybody would want to leave their home to be a servant even if it was for somebody that they liked and he tried to protest again;

“But…”

“The inn supports them…But…It will only take them so far…By becoming your maid she will have much more opportunities than she would here…” Sakurai told him softly taking his hand and giving it a light squeeze. “She will not be forbidden from coming to see them or them to see her I promise my love…I would never have agreed if they did not ask me…”

“…You said my maid…?”

“Our maid…Forgive me, husband but in the eyes of the law you are the equivalent of my wife…and as such most people assume that like a wife you will be the one that takes care of the house hold duties…” Sakurai shrugged two spots of colour appearing in his cheeks and Masaki let out a sigh nodding, it had only been sixty years since the law had been passed allowing them to marry as any other couple but there were roles.

“…Lady Kazuko explained it to me and taught me when she realised that I was attracted to you…” He said bowing his head slowly at his husband. He and Nino had been taught household management, it had been something that Yuichi and lord Ninomiya he had scoffed at but he had found it interesting and he wondered if Yuichi knew how much it cost to run the house or how many times they had only managed to pull through hardships because of Kazuko and her management skills and her natural charm.

“You are my husband Masaki and if you wished to take up arms and fight with me I would…Be concerned but I would allow you to do it…” Sakurai said but Masaki shook his head without even thinking about it some men were born to fight but he was not one of them.

“I know…But…I want to make our home a happy one…”

“You will…Are you finished my love?” He asked softly and Masaki nodded reading the fire that was in his eyes and Sakurai smiled getting to his feet and pulling him up “Then shall we retire for the night? I promised that I would warm you up…”

You go Sho! Time to warm up the wifey. ; )
So will Jun stay away from Nino or will he feel he should be at least in the same bed with him? Maybe sleep on far sides of the bed to wake up curled up to each other? Awkward. Hehehehehhe. Can't wait to see your next chapter! : )

So good!! Every day I am so happy to see the next chapter, and then I always want more.❤️❤️❤️
I am glad Nino asked Yun's opinion. And I wonder about Marsha--is she coming with Sho and Masaki a good thing? Hugs to you!

Sakuraba is so lucky! Marrying to someone you love can be complicated sometimes, but nothing compared to when you have to learn to love the person you were married to "against your will".
I wish the best for my babies!
