krystalkatzficzMasako sighed happily as she rested her back against Sho and stared out at the ocean watching the way the light from the water played around on the waves. Around her she could hear the sounds of laughter from her fiancé, father, Jun, Ohno and Toma and something in her heart fluttered around like the wings of a butterfly. It felt amazing, like it was the perfect end to a very bizarre but happy summer and she guessed that in a way it was. Oh they still had a few days left but it was going to be rush of getting things sorted. Tomorrow the architect was coming to make up plans for the new beach house and although her dad had said he wanted her input with the design she knew in her heart that it would be more about him and Jun and she couldn’t help but be happy about that. It had taken her a while to admit it but now she was sure that this didn’t mean that she was going to lose her father. She looked over at the pair now and flushed brightly when she saw that they were kissing while swaying to some music that only they could hear.
“They are embarrassingly happy together ne?” Sho asked his mouth against her ear and Masako giggled nodding as his strong arms wrapped tightly around her chest and swayed her back and forth as he began to hum softly “And so are those two…”
“Hmm…” Masako agreed looking over at Toma and Ohno who were lost in a world of their own as Ohno was trying to teach Toma to make little origami birds with the napkins from the restaurant. There were several beautiful ones all sitting proudly on the blanket and then there were some that were so malformed that it would be a kindness to throw them in the ocean but it looked like Toma had his answer anyway and from the way that their hands very lightly brushed together causing them both to blush like school girls it was a favourable one. “And so are we…”
“Yup…That we are…” Sho agreed biting at her earlobe as he held up her hand with the ring looking down at the little daisy that was gracing her finger. “Next year we’ll be married…And we’ll be even more embarrassingly happy ne?”
“Yep! I can’t wait! This summer has been so weird…But it’s a good weird…” Masako sighed wondering if anybody would believe her if she told them all that had happened over the course of a few weeks. She knew that her father had never been the type to let life be boring but this…This had to be a new record.
“As long as it’s not this weird next year…” Nino piped up his head peeking out from over Jun’s shoulder his eyes flashing in the orange glow of the fire “Anyway…We’ll you lot later…”
“Why where are you going?” Masako asked as the pair separated from their strange dance but continued holding hands tightly. Masako looked at her friend noting how much older he seemed to her now and she wondered if she was the same, she didn’t feel any different but it was possible that she had changed without realising it. Nino gave a smile that looked a whole lot cuter and less smirk filled that the smiles that he had been giving until now and she realised that while Jun was older her dad had gotten younger. It was like they had met somewhere in the middle. A lot of people wouldn’t like them together but that was because they wouldn’t want to see the truth.
“To cuddle some more…I’m an old man…I need my beauty sleep…” Nino joked his arms wrapping Jun while Toma let out a long snort looking up from another butchered origami bird saying teasingly;
“Sleep? Yeah right…Like sleep is what you’re going to be…”
“No! I don’t want to hear that!” Masako snapped jumping to her feet and dragging Sho up with her “We’re going to go paddle a little…”
“Be careful…The water can turn…”
“Quickly…Yes we know…” Masako finished for her over protective dad her eyes rolling a little as she took Sho’s hand and linking their fingers “Anyway we’re not going swimming…We’re just going to go for a walk and talk where there’s nobody talking creepily about my dad and friend…”
“Fine…See you later...Don’t wander too far…” Nino said relentlessly and Masako gave another eye roll not bothering to give a reply as she turned on her heel and picked up Mac with one arm and marched away over the sand towards the ocean with Sho followed silently behind sounding like he was laughing but silently. Masako wanted to growl and huff but instead she let out a laugh of her own realising just how silly it all was.
“He still treats me like I’m a kid…” She said kicking off her sandals and plonking the dog down and watching him run around chasing his tail for a minute or two as Sho kissed her cheek before saying;
“You are his kid…And always will be…”
“Yeah I know…Sho...” She whispered stopping them both in their tracks turning to face him sadness creeping into her heart. “…summer is almost over…”
“Yes it is…” Sho nodded giving a smile his hand cupping her cheek his fingers toying with her ear and Masako gave a smile and bit on her lip before poking her tongue into her cheek as the cool water wrapped around her feet as she hummed;
“You’ll be going to college and I’ll be going back to school…”
“Yup…Masako…You know that just because summer’s ending doesn’t mean that everything’s over right? I’m going to come and see you…And you’re going to come and see me right?” Sho told her reading the emotions that must have been playing around with her face and Masako tried to swallow down a lump of sadness but failed tears quickly coming into her eyes. “Oh Masako…My sweet little Masako…”
“I’m sorry…I don’t know what’s up…I don’t mean to start crying…It’s just…I’m…” She sobbed glad when Sho let out a laugh and wrapping his arms around her tightly his mouth pressing into her eyes and kissing away the tears as he said;
“Overly emotional…I know I feel the same…This summer has been pretty intense...It wouldn’t be normal if you weren’t…So much has happened the summer…And although things will calm down during the school year but that’s a good thing, that’s normal...It’s the way that it’s meant to be…Next year we’re going to be married and that's a whole load more fun that we have to go through...but at least it can't be as bad as this..."
"I was thinking that we could have the wedding here...well not here but on the beach at sunset with a canopy just in case it rains...and we could have beach chairs and nobody would have to dress too formal...ne...What do you think?" Masako stopped speaking quickly when she realised that Sho wasn't saying anything but was just watching her with a stupefied smile on his face his hands still holding hers their fingers linked.
"I think it sounds like you've got it all figured out..."
"Well there's a few details that I want to run passed Jun..." She hummed flushing again when Sho let out a bark of laughter that disturbed Mac who had been happily investigating a crab.
"Jun? Not your mum?"
"No way! Mum would make me wear bright pink with baby's breath in my hair...ah she'll have the baby then ne..." Masako thought with a hiss her eyes widening a little as she remembered that "so much drama this summer!"
"Yup but most of it has been the good kind ne?"
"Yup but you have been the best part Sho-chan and I guess you'll be the best part next year too..." She admitted kissing her fiancé once on the lips before resting her head against his chest as they began swaying to music that wasn't there like Nino and Jun had done earlier.
"You'll be the best part of any time of the year for me, Masako..."
"Cheesy line is cheesy..." She quipped looking back into the flushing face of her fiancé but she admitted in a very cheesy way "you've always been my best part...ever since I asked you to marry me..."
"Cheesy...we're going to be a very cheesy couple ne...I bet our vows are going to be cringe worthy..." Sho teased and Masako laughed nodding happily as she said;
"I hope so...one more year..."
"Yup...just one more and then it will be the first summer of the rest of our lives..."
"I can't wait..."
