"There’s a rainbow coming out of the mountain!” Nino shouted excitedly pointing so much that Ohno was positive that he was about to fall from the back of the Shire. Ohno followed the pointing finger to the side of a grey mountain where there was a small waterfall that was indeed causing a rainbow to appear to be coming out of the side of the mountain. It was beautiful but to Ohno who had seen them so many times it seemed like such a simple thing to him but he guessed with the upbringing that he had had even simple things like that would be exciting for his beloved. He looked around for a moment realising where they were as an idea formed in his head. He might not have been able to heal the wound of his beloved but he could show himself that he had never seen before. He held up his hand stopping the elves from moving any further up the trail before jumping down from the back of his beast and going to his beloved.
“Come beloved…I will show you something even more amazing…” He said holding out his hands to him and Nino nodded carefully sliding down from the back of the Shire and into his arms. Ohno closed them quickly to prevent him from falling his body reacting quickly as it remembered his dream he fought the urge to shiver and moan holding him close for a few minutes until Phoenix let out an indignant honk wriggling around and forcing them apart. Ohno half sighed eyeing the bird with a raised eyebrow managing to smile as Nino stroked the feathery head apologising to the infuriating smug bird. He pulled his eyes away from the creature and then turned to the waiting elves saying >We will rest here…<
>Yes…High King< They responded quickly and Ohno took Nino’s hand leading him away from the main trail and into an off shoot. It was over grown but the branches gave way to their bodies as they moved through them. The scenery was beautiful with lush greenery with brightly coloured flowers to start until they slowly gave away to browner drier looking plant life. Nino asked no questions as they walked and then made no complaint as the gentle slope became steeper and more difficult to climb for the boy that wasn’t used to such things.
“I’m sorry!” Nino gasped as he suddenly slipped on some loose stones and almost skidded down the side of the mountain yanking Ohno’s arm out of the socket.
“Don’t apologise…Here stand on this rock…” The elven king smiled leading him to a large secure boulder and helping him up before turning around and presenting his back “Climb on…”
“What? But I’ll be too heavy! You’ll slip…” Nino gasped but Ohno shook his head murmuring seriously;
“I won’t…I wouldn’t let you fall, I promise beloved…Come on…”
Slowly Nino did as he was told climbing onto his back while making sure that Phoenix was comfortable against him. The bird pecked him a few times on the shoulder painfully before settling down and allowing Ohno to wrap his arms around his legs and hold him securely as he walked up the mountain. The boy really was lighter than he should be so it was easy for the well trained and sure footed elf to carry him up the slope and over the loose stones. Nino’s arms wrapped around his neck tightly his cheek pressing against his and Ohno decided that the climb was definitely worth it.
Eventually they came to an opening in the mountain a small cave that was only just big enough for them to squeeze through and he reluctantly released his beloved knowing that they wouldn’t be able to fit in the small space with him on his back. Nino looked nervously at the opening and Ohno smiled reassuringly holding out his hand again.
“Take my hand…I promise that what I’m going to show you will make up for the tight squeeze of the cave, beloved…” He told him and was happy when Nino’s small hand came to rest in his again. Ohno linked their fingers and together they moved forward. He wished that he had planned for this better as the cave was very dark and his eyes had trouble adjusting. It was times like this that he wished that he had brought Dragon with him, his firebird would normally go in front of him lighting his path. The warm squeeze of Nino’s hand kept him focused moving through the cave with ease and he was glad when he could see the light coming towards them.
*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nino followed the Elven king through the damp cave that smelt of mould wondering where they were going. Ohno had told him that it would be more amazing than a rainbow coming out of a mountain and he believed him not once had Ohno lied to him and somehow he knew that he wouldn’t even if it had only been a short time. The cave was dark though and he was glad that Ohno was holding his hand and staying close to him. Phoenix was snuggled into his chest and his honking had faded into almost nothing and Nino used his free hand to stroke the trembling back noticing that the cave was becoming lighter again.
“Close your eyes beloved…” Ohno told him stopping walking and coming back to him his arm coming around his back as Nino obediently did as he was told closing his eyes tightly and allowing himself to be guided forwards. A rush of air whipped around his face and caused a shiver to break out over him. There was a loud thunder of water rushing over rocks, sounding so loud that it caused a rumble to run through his entire body and he pressed back into Ohno in fear and excitement. They stopped moving and Ohno held him securely around the waist as he whispered in his ear “Open your eyes now…”
Nino opened his eyes promptly and gasped loudly with surprise at the sight that was before him. A huge waterfall of deep blue water sprayed down the mountain in front of them causing puffs of white and so many rainbows that it looked like the valley was filled with them. The thundering of water rang through his ears but he saw that the ledge that they were on was large enough for them to stand comfortably watching the scene before them.
“Is this where rainbows are made…?” Nino asked in wonder as he held on to Ohno tightly and lent over the edge and looking down.
“I think that it might be beloved…Look do you see that?” Ohno asked pointing with his finger into the distance and Nino looked straining his eyes to see a large eagle…Larger than the one that Aiba had been communicating with swooping around the waterfall and then through it. The bird sliced up through the centre of the waterfall and then flew out again causing a rainbow of colour to shine around him before he dropped plunging towards the earth. Nino’s breath caught his hands around Phoenix hoping that it would pull up before it reached the bottom and it did pulling up at the last moment flying back up until it flew just in front them, so close that he could reach out and brush at its wings. Phoenix let out a feeble honk his face burying into him but Nino couldn’t stop staring, his eyes blown wide. He had never been away from the Draven grounds before and he couldn’t believe he had never know that all of this was out there. It was easy to see why the elves refused to stay in one place there was so much to see.
“It’s amazing” He breathed breathlessly releasing Ohno and reaching out trying to touch the rainbow that appeared to be hovering in front of him.
“I thought you would like it…”
“Are there more places like this?” He asked turning to look at the smiling elven king who nodded his fingers brushing over his lips causing a shiver of excitement to run over him his heart jumping as he wondered if Ohno would kiss him.
“Yes…There are places even more beautiful than this…And I will show you every single one, beloved…” Ohno whispered smiling again before he closed the gap between them and their lips were brought together.
