Your grace part 10

Phoenix gave an excited sounding honk as Nino held out the mushy feed that he had help prepare with Ohno. It was made out of ground mealworms and wheat grains. The bird picked at it for a moment his beak sharp against his hand but not enough to hurt.

“He’s eating it!” He shouted happily looking at Ohno who was standing off to one corner watching over him with a warm smile “Look!”

“I see…” The elven king laughed coming over to him as Phoenix let out a louder honk eating more of the food ambling over to him again fluttering his wings the strange plume around his eyes bristling a little at the movement. His head cocked from side to side eating the sticky mess from his hand and then bobbing over to the bowl its wing scrapping over the swept floor. It was a strange looking creature but Nino couldn’t help but think he was beautiful, it was his first ever gift and he hoped that he would be able to look after it properly. “You should be careful, you wouldn’t want an overweight firebird…They get heavy enough, beloved…”

“So…I wouldn’t be able to train him to sit on my shoulder?” He asked feeling disappointed watching his bird’s head bobbing up and down as he honked frantically and he was happy when Ohno crouched down beside him his hand resting on his back saying;

“You can, beloved, Dragon often sits on my shoulder, but you would have to train yourself as well as Phoenix”

“Will you train me?” Nino asked in excitement imagining himself with Phoenix on his shoulder. He didn’t know what they looked like and Arianna had told that nobody would know exactly what Phoenix would look like until he was fully grown and his baby feathers had rubbed off.

“Of course, beloved, but I think that you and he will be easy to teach you already have a good bond…” Ohno answered with a nod looking at Phoenix who had finished his meal and was bobbing back over to them his head jerking around before falling over his own feet and landing in a heap the horrible panicked honking filling the tent and almost damaging their ears. “I promise that they do become beautiful and elegant creatures…And their songs are very beautiful…” The elf said doubtfully and Nino giggled putting his arm down and allowing the bird to climb up his arm its sharp talons sinking into the flesh a little but it was nothing like the pain that the Draven’s inflicted on him. “I doubt that it would be described as beautiful as your laughter though beloved, I hope that I can get you to make that sound more…”

“Your grace…” Nino whispered flushing a bright red as he tried to hide his face against the back of the bird but Phoenix seemed to confuse his hair with a worm picking at it from the roots “Ouch”

“Ah…I promise he will learn to stop that…But…Beloved…I think that there may be fleas in your hair that he is trying to get…” Ohno whispered and Nino flushed again nodding as embarrassment clawed its way through him. He couldn’t help it, he tried to keep himself clean but barring the day that the king had come he had never been allowed in the bathing house.

“I’m sorry!” He cried jumping to his feet and bowing all at once depositing Phoenix onto the floor in an undignified heap while still holding onto a strand of his hair. Ohno grabbed him holding him gently around his waist and shaking his head with a soft smile saying;

“Ssh, little beloved, there is no need for embarrassment…The moon is almost high in the sky and there is a pool nearby, allow me to show you how to moon bathe…”

“Moon bathe?” Nino repeated his heart steadying under the look that he was being given the fingers of his free hand going to his head scratching it frantically now from the mention of fleas and Ohno nodded smiling again as he rose gracefully to his feet.

“It’s fun, I promise…” Ohno told his little half-blood tempted to break his word and send a party of men back to the Draven castle to deal with those inside. He wouldn’t though, he couldn’t break the fragile trust that Nino had placed in him but he could show him the joys of moon bathing and it would ease all the aches his little beloved was feeling “I doubt that you have been allowed that joy before…”

“No…At least don’t think do…” Nino shook his head quickly picking Phoenix up and hugging him to his chest the bird instantly resting his head in his shoulder and seemingly falling to sleep as if his earlier escapade of chasing the fleas had just been an act to get Ohno to respond. It might well have been, the firebird was still a mysterious creature and the one in Nino’s arms more so than most. It had been an egg when he had brought it and had only hatched the day that they had arrived to Draven castle according to Aiba as if being near his future master had woken it up. Ohno gave an internal shrug and smiled again his hand resting on the bony shoulder of his little half-blood lover. 

“If you had you would know, now come, your companion may also join us…” He said guiding him out of the tent and into the main section of the camp. The elves around them bowed swiftly as they passed and Ohno could feel his lover shrinking and tensing trying to hide himself. “Stand proud little Nino…You are my pure partner the low king…These people will never harm you…They will love you always…”

“Because of you?” Nino whispered disbelievingly sounding nervous as he hugged the bird closer to his chest and pressed himself closer to Ohno’s side. Ohno nodded a little his hand slipping from the shoulder to slide down the slim back and to rest in the small looking as if he was half hugging him instead of guiding him. The highland elves would never betray them, he knew that in his heart but he was worried, like Jun was that Nino wouldn’t have the strength to deal with all that being low king meant. He wasn’t even strong enough to hold his head up as Nino, but there was time yet and he would always support him.

“And because you are your father’s son…” He answered guiding him passed the circle of tents and out into the forest. The path to the pool was lit with flickering lanterns and ribbons hanging from the trees and Ohno loved the sound of the branches cracking underfoot and the way the wind blew through the tree tops making them sound like they were singing. The pool wasn’t as nice as the one he used in the highlands but it was beautiful a dip in the ground surrounded by grey rocks and fed by both a waterfall and an underground spring. Its blue water shone with the reflection of the moon while tiny puffs of steam rose from its surface. “Come little beloved…Would you rather I close my eyes while you undress?”

“Un-dress?” Nino repeated with a tremor in his voice and Ohno smiled again stroking his back with his fingertips.

“It would be hard to bathe in clothing, beloved…Hand me Phoenix and I will turn my back…” He told him and Nino slowly did as he was told handing him the bird. He could feel the nerves rolling off of the half-blood and he had to question his own sanity at doing this when his lusts were so near the surface but right at that moment all he cared about was making Nino enjoy himself. As he held the scaly Phoenix in his arms he turned as promised allowing Nino the privacy to disrobe. A few minutes later and there was the sound of water being rippled around a body and he swallowed breathing deeply through his nose when he heard his beloved whisper;

“You can look now…” Ohno turned slowly letting out a hiss at the vison in front of him. Nino was sat directly in the centre of the pool with the divine moonlight all around him causing his snow white hair and creamy skin to glow and shine like pure silver, several points of discolouration marred his flesh and the elf had to fight down a lot of anger as he saw them. Two spots of rose pink stained his cheeks but there was a enchanted smile on his face as he moved the water around with his hands. “It’s warm…”

“Of course it is…Close your eyes beloved…” He said and the body did as he was told holding his cute and slightly pudgy hands over his face as Ohno shrugged himself out of his clothes praying to the divine to give him the strength that he needed to get through this. He piled their clothes into a nest and placed the still sleeping bird down before climbing into the water and sitting in front of his beloved.

Yay I love this story ^^ I actually think Nino can end up being a good king...because he's kind and obviously has an awesome fire bird that loves him so he clearly has potential :D I love the relationship between him and his "pet" so much ^^ And YAY for moon-bathing times!!!
