krystalkatzficz"Let's go fly a kite, up to the highest height…” Masako sang loudly and tunelessly as she ran down the stairs of her home dressed in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt with a sleepy bear on the front holding a purple blanket. The pyjamas had been a gift from Jun the first Christmas after they had started dating and she wore them whenever she could causing the picture to become flaky with from continuous washes. “Up through the atmosphere up where the air is clear…” She bellowed pushing open the kitchen door and grinning at her father who beamed continuing the song in a deep bellowing voice
“Let’s go fly a kite…”
Masako giggled happily and then ran over and pressed a kiss to his cheek as he patted her cheek “Good morning princess…”
“Princess? She sounds like an elephant coming down those stairs…For someone who dresses like she walked out of a fairy story she’s heavy footed…” Yutsuko grumbled following at a more sedate pace looking just like the non-morning person she was with her hair in disarray and her eyes unfocused. Masako shrugged happily grabbing the healthy breakfast that had been prepared and sitting down at the low table folding up her long legs.
“You could do well to be a little more energetic in the mornings like your sister…” Their father said and Masako giggled sticking out her tongue. It was a running saying within her family that she was a daddy’s girl and she had to admit that they were close even though he was disappointed that she didn’t want to follow in his footsteps he was proud of everything she did do happily showing off her pictures to anyone that stayed still for long enough before growling at anyone that said anything inappropriate or sometimes even if he thought they were thinking something inappropriate. It was rather terrifying to be growled at by someone that had more muscles than sense.
“Yeah, yeah…” Yutsuko yawned waving her hand around before almost dropping her face into the high protein food she was on for this week like she always was before a competition. Theirs was a strange relationship, most people would assume that there would be jealousy between them and there was but, although they said it, they knew that their father didn’t have a real favourite he was just as likely to show off all of Yutsuko’s trophies as he was Masako’s picture, they were actually pretty close as sisters and Masako knew that if she was ever in trouble her sister would be the first one she would call to help her out. Even before Jun or Nino.
“Have you been training hard?” Masako asked holding her up by her hair to stop her nose from actually hitting the greyish mess in the bowl.
“Yup…Dad’s become a monster…” Yutsuko mumbled giving a small nod and opening one eye a roguish grin on her face “Wanna switch lives for a while?”
“Um…No thanks…You wouldn’t fit in my dresses…But I bet we can get some cute one….”
“You dare and I snap your neck like a twig…” The younger girl snapped tugging her hair free earning a giggle from Masako though in her heart she was disappointed, she had always wanted to dress Yutsuko up in a really fluffy dress knowing that she would look beautiful “I have no time for fu-fu hair and lipstick…But I wouldn’t mind your boyfriend…”
“You can’t have him…” Masako snapped quickly losing her smile at the mention of Jun. She was very possessive when it came to her lover and wouldn’t even joke about that with Yutsuko. Her sister gave a loud laugh scooping some of the greyish gloop onto her spoon and popping it into her mouth swallowing it down before batting her eyelashes saying;
“Aww…But he’s really cute…And you seem to have moved back to Nino…Right? You were holding his hand last night…What’s going on? You dating both the Matsumoto brothers now?”
“No! I’m…Just helping out Nino…” She gasped blushing a little at the question glad that their father had gone to wake their mother with a breakfast on a tray.
“Because of that rumour? I heard about it, I go to the same school as him remember…” Yutsuko mumbled and Masako sighed nodding once looking around, double checking that nobody else was there.
“If anyone asks I’m dating Nino-chan, okay? Please…” She begged gripping Yutsuko’s arm tightly and squeezing until she let out a yelp and tugged her arm free. The younger girl rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth as she mumbled;
“Of course, I’ve already said you were…I’m not an idiot Nee-chan…But you know what they’re saying about you too? If dad hears any of that he’ll go mental…”
“I know but the person is just a horrible spiteful person…So I don’t want him to find out…If you can help it…”
“I don’t know how you and Nino get yourselves into all this trouble” Yutsuko sighed and Masako shrugged having to admit that that was true. It wasn’t the first time that she and Nino had had to come up with a hair brained scheme. “So…Um is it true about Nino and Ohno-sensei?”
“...I…Can’t answer that…” Masako said trying to deny it but her cheeks went red before going white giving her away quickly and Yutsuko’s eyes bulged wide and her mouth dropped open as she hissed;
“So it is?” Reluctantly Masako nodded just once and her sister gave a whistle “Wow…Why to go Nino-chan…”
“Nino-chan? What’s up with Nino-chan?” Masaki asked coming into the room and looking at them. Both girls gulped staring each other in the eye as they tried to come up with something that wasn’t the truth.
“He beat his speed record…” Masako said quickly and Yutsuko nodded with the best smile she could manage and they both sighed with relief when it seemed that he brought it
“Good for him, with those pencil thin arms I’m surprised that he had the upper body strength for it…”
“Dad! Nino-chan is really good at doing what he does…” Masako sighed finishing off her breakfast and getting to her feet. “I should go and get dressed…”
“...I can give you a lift this morning, since I’m going in that direction…” Masaki told her as she headed to the door and Masako grinned though inside her stomach was doing a few weird flips hoping that nobody had done anything at the school. “You too Yutsuko…”
“Thanks papa” Yutsuko answered her voice muffled around her spoon and Masako was glad that her sister knew the truth, thinking that she should have told her sooner, now she would be able to keep her eye on Nino for her when they were at school even though she was in the year below him.
Half an hour later they were sat in their father’s grey convertible driving towards the school. On the radio some old singer was warbling into a microphone and Masaki was singing along while doing some weird kind head movements that were causing a lot of embarrassment for both his daughters. Both of them were sat in the backseat trying to look like they didn’t know the man driving which was completely impossible.
“You are the love of my life…” Masaki wailed loudly and Masako found her sister nudging her hard in the ribs with her elbow.
“What?”
“This is what you sound like…” She said and Masako glared at her before sticking out her tongue out before frowning and promising that she would never ever sing again if Masaki stopped singing. A few minutes later they were pulling up outside of Yutsuko’s school and Masako saw Ohno on duty at the gate. She almost put her hand up to wave in greeting but realised quickly that that wouldn’t look very good.
“See you later…” Yutsuko said almost darting out of the car and running towards the building after dropping a bow at the teacher who smiled back looking less enthusiastic than when she had seen him with Nino yesterday.
“So…What were you and Yutsuko really talking about? And does it have anything to do with what happened to your locker yesterday, Princess?” Masaki asked and Masako sighed pinching her nose guessing that Kimura had been on the phone to her dad almost as soon as she had left the school. “What trouble has Nino-kun got you into now?”
“Nothing…Honestly dad…I’m not in any trouble…”
“So somebody is picking on you because?”
“They have nothing better to do…” Masako grumbled deciding that the first this she was going to do was track down the two first years from yesterday and see if they had made a start. “Honestly dad, it’s nothing that I can’t handle…”
“Okay…But if…you know that I’m here right?”
“I know…And I promise dad if there was anything you could do I would tell you…But honestly it’s not me they’re trying to hurt…” She sighed again staring out at the road chewing on her bottom lip this was going to be over as soon as she could make it and that was a promise.
