Our First Summer part ninety-seven

krystalkatzficzNino yawned loudly as he flicked through the paperwork for the insurance. It had all been filled in by Sho and Masako and he trusted them completely so it was more out of habit than anything else. ‘Always read the fine print’ was the biggest piece of advice his father had given him and it had always served him well enough. After making sure everything was in order he took out his seal and marked the bottom before sliding it into the brown envelope and looking up at his lover who had just brought him something that he guessed was meant to be tea but it kind of looked like the ‘drinks’ Masako used to make him from grass and mud in the pretty pink cups with the purple daisies. Like then he gave a smile and stopped himself from breathing as he brought the drink to his mouth and sipped it slowly surprised when it actually tasted pretty good.
“What’s this?” He asked licking his lips and looking at Jun who, like Masako at six, was standing over him with a nervous expression on his face.
“Hibiscus flower it’s meant to help lower your blood pressure…” Jun told him promptly in a manner that told him he had memorised what had been printed on the label. Nino hummed sipping more of the drink before nodding and placing it on the coaster that he had honestly forgotten that he had until Jun had produced it from nowhere that morning. For a teenager Jun was very neat and Nino knew that his lover was going to be able to give his maid a run for her money in his apartment in town along with their puppy. Smiling at the thought he hummed happily and grabbed a hold of his hand holding him tightly around the wrist completely oblivious to the fact that they were alone.
“Okay…It’s good…Let’s go find a puppy…” He purred tugging him down onto his lap and wrapping his arms around his waist pressing his face into his chest and breathing in deep. Nobody smelt as good as Jun did, he decided happily, even when they were wearing the same thing.
“A puppy? We’re getting a puppy?” Masako shouted bouncing up and down like an over excited child and Nino stuck his tongue out at her before cuddling Jun a little harder and answering;
“Jun and I are getting a puppy….”
“What? That’s not fair! I keep saying that I…” Masako whined loudly folding her arms across her chest and pouting at him with her bottom lip sticking out. Nino rolled his eyes giving a laugh as he relented a little;
“Fine well I suppose we could get two…But you have to look after yours…Properly…”
“I will I promise…We can have a puppy right, Sho-chan?” Masako asked turning to her fiancé who was looking a little bit terrified at the thought. Nino wasn’t sure why he was so worried, since he would be going back to college soon and with Jun and Masako back at school he was going to be left with two dogs for most of the time but for some reason he wasn’t too bothered by that. after what had happened and the way his princess was feeling he just wanted to do something to make her happy again. Masako clapped her hands together looking like his little girl again as she let out a lout cheer beaming as wide as she could “Yay, where are we going?”
“I don’t know, I’m pretty certain there’s a breeder around here…And there are a few pet shops...” Nino shrugged grabbing the tea and taking another sip. “Sho can drive…Jun said that he wanted to go to the town so we can make a day of it…”
“What about the nurse?” Masako asked and Jun gave a giggle hiding his face in Nino’s neck while Nino gave a snort around the cup having difficulty in hiding his delight in having the opportunity to tease his daughter and son-in-law.
“Been and gone, in fact she was here this morning when you were having your early morning exercise…” Nino smirked at them both watching the way they both went a funny ash white and then a sunny red their cheeks glowing as they started to squirm around “I’m as fine as I can be…She’ll be back again tomorrow…So come on let’s get going…”
“Are you sure? You only just got out of hospital yesterday…” Masako whispered managing to get over her embarrassment to look at him with concern and Nino rolled his eyes again shuffling around a little when Jun’s hard bony bum started to make his leg go numb.
“And I’ll be fine…” He hissed “It’s not like I’m running a marathon to get the dog or anything…I’m not an invalid…”
“I never said that you were…” Masako started but Jun was already muttering at him to calm down his hands moving up and down his back;
“…Or I won’t let you go…”
“Oh? And how would you stop me?” Nino asked his eyebrow raised looking at his young lover with a smirk and Jun laughed his cheeks flushing a tiny bit as he said seriously;
“I’d tie you to the bed…”
“Interesting…” Nino husked his eyes flashing as his hands moved down to play with the hem of the t-shirt and Jun laughed nodding as he kissed his ear and whispered;
“And leave you there when we go out…”
“Brat…Fine I’m completely calm…Honestly Masako, they told me not to just sit around…I think going to look at puppies will be very relaxing…” Nino said with more conviction than he actually felt it wasn’t the first time that he had gone with Masako for an animal and he had begged him to take more than one of the animals and when he had refused she had started screaming and shouting until they left. A shudder ran down his spine at the thought of that happening again and he said quickly “But before we go anywhere you have to promise that you’ll only pick one…”
“I promise…” Masako smiled holding her hands up in a kind of Girl Guide promise grinning happily at him “I really promise, daddy…”
“Okay…Well I’ll check that number with the breeder even if she hasn’t got any in then she might know someone how does…” Nino said patting Jun’s leg and motioning for him to move as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He had barely started searching for the number he wanted when Jun was off, taking the empty cup with him, tidying up as he went. Nino rolled his eyes smiling a little as he found the number he wanted and dialled quickly.
After a brief conversation with the breeder he was informed that another breeder in the town over had recently taken in a stray with some pups that were ready to be rehomed. It didn't take long for the overly excitable Masako to usher them all out of the house and into the car. Although Nino said they would make a day of it he didn't think that they would leave the breeder without one or even two of the puppies. As he sat in the back seat, a baseball cap hiding his stupid looking bandage, he noticed that Jun had gone very quiet and was nibbling his bottom lip frantically while staring out of the window with a pinched expression on his face. Nino chewed the inside of his cheek for awhile nerves clawing at his insides wondering if he had made a mistake. A puppy wasn't a kid but it was a kind of big deal to be pushing on a teenager straight away.
"JJ us everything okay? You know we don't gave to get the dog now...Masa and Sho can get theirs..."
"No I want the dog...I've always wanted a dog it's just..." Jun answered with a smile and shrug causing Nino's eyebrows to crease into a frown as he waited for an explanation.
"Dogs don't want Jun..." Masako offered out turning around in the front seat and giving them both a smile while Nino's frown became even deeper,
"What do you mean?"
"I have a sort of 'Jun effect' that makes even the most loving animals hate me..." Jun mumbled reluctantly and angry embarrassed flush staining his cheeks.
"...Oh..." Nino murmured before resting his head on the flat stomach and adding with a grin "well I guess we'll have to find the puppy version of me then so it will love you..."
