The Tattoo chapter twelve

krystalkatzficzThe bandits moved quietly through the over growth. They were positive that they had heard the sounds of laughter and then an argument. Their minds were filled with nubile woman playing in a stream or equally attractive men, they had heard that there were a lot of beauties in lord Sakurai’s home but so far all they had seen was trees and mud. Their leaders had vanished yesterday and there had been no sign. They were cold, tired and irritated, the bug bites weren’t helping and all they wanted was to get on with their mission. Another bug hit them on them on their necks and they let out grunts. Really, the sooner they got out of here the better. But first they wanted to investigate the almost musical laughter.

Nino watched the men from the tree tops having to admit that they did seem to be trying to stay quiet it wasn’t their fault that to Nino they sounded like a herd of horses to his ears. Reluctantly he pushed his most deadly needle back into his hair and pulled out a more delicate one. This poison would just incapacitate them yesterday he had made a mistake by killing them without questioning them but they had he would admit that now but those men had hurt his Takayuki and nobody was going to hurt him. He had made sure that the two boys were okay and then had taken off. It would take a lot of explaining to Takayuki but he could do it. He moved through the trees silently through the treetops and then waited until they were just passed him before throwing down the needles. The men barely registered them and Nino waited for the effects of the poison to take hold. It wasn’t long, just a few steps, before they were wobbling and Nino jumped down from the tree landing in front of them. They looked startled but didn’t have the energy to actually start and Nino growled;
“Drop your weapons…”
"You are making threats?" The man, one that seemed mildly more confident that the others, asked with a laugh looking him over and Nino’s lip curled into a smirk.
"I never make threats, only promises, you are already dying the poison is moving through you and nothing can stop it..." Nino told them coldly sitting down with his legs crossed looking perfectly at ease like he was about to start making tea. He could pinpoint the exact moment that the men realised he was speaking the truth. Their faces blenched before going a purplish blue and they sank to their knees clutching at their throats "you can do one good deed though and ease your journey into the next life...you can tell me who sent you...who would be able to pay you enough to send you to your deaths in the land of Sakurai Sho?"
"Why…Why should we tell you…?” The man at the back whimpered sounding like his lungs were already shutting down. Nino smirked a little his eyes flashing dangerously as he tilted his head to one side, he loved watching the effect of his poisons. As far as he was aware he was the only one that had managed to perfect his poison the way that he had. His mother had been good, one of the best but he was better. Most of the time he loved it when they thought that it wasn’t effecting them the confidence in their eyes and the smirks that would slowly change the more that his poison crept up through them silently shutting down their systems leaving them helpless and gagging on fluid from their lungs. Even the most powerful man could be brought down by an insignificant needle and he loved the thought of that.
“Because you invaded my personal space, you brought my boy into danger and I very nearly had to kill you in front of him…” Nino growled the thought of Takayuki losing his innocence like that. Today was not a good day for him, there were so many shadows that he couldn't escape and now Takayuki was angry with him "But you could make it better by telling why you were trying to attack my lord?”
“We…Weren’t…” They spluttered slowly in unison their eyes wide and terrified their fingernails clawing at their throats trying to stop the passageways from giving in. It was pointless the only antidote to the poison that was moving through them was a concoction of Nino’s own making but he couldn’t deny that he enjoyed the way they were fighting.
“Then the Lord Ohno…” Nino said guessing that that should have been his first option, there didn’t seem to be many that would come after Sakurai or if they did it wouldn’t be with such poorly trained soldiers. Nino was the pride of his lord’s house, he knew that to be the truth without need for vanity, but there were others that were trained.
“Lord…” The man spat blood staining his lips and running down his chin “He’s no…More a lord…Than…I am…”
“I see, while that is not my place to question…” Nino said honestly. It wasn’t his place to question the friends of his lord or what he what he said. He was a weapon, nothing more, nothing less. He reached slowly into the folds of his yukata and pulled out a small glass jar that contained his blood “I have here an antidote and I will be happy to give it to you if you come peacefully to my lord and explain to him why you are here…If not I will leave you here to die…The poison that is moving through your body will not kill you, not straight away at least, you will lay there in the dirt helpless until a wild animal comes…I will help that of course by cutting your vein...The sweet scent of your blood will attract the beasts…My lord might be more merciful and grant you a speedier and less painful death…Who knows he may be feeling generous and allow you to live…”
“I would rather…Die…” The vocal one of the lot said gagging on a bubble of a blood his lungs rattling inside his chest.
“Then so be it, wolves live here, wild boar…The scent that is flowing through your veins will attract them and you will enjoy the sight of them fighting over your body…That is your choice…But do you men…”
“We…Antidote…” They gasped bubbles of blood coming out of their mouths. The poison really wouldn’t kill them, if left alone there was even a chance that they could even recover but that wasn’t going to happen. Nino wasn’t lying about the beasts that lived in the forest in fact he could already sense that they were moving.
“I see that you have some intelligence…” Nino said swooping down and quickly administering the antidote to the two men that had agreed to it. After that he helped them up propping them against a tree before turning and muttering "Wait there…I will be back in a few moments…”
Nino hurried back through the forest to the two boys that he had hidden in a large bush. A few steps away from it, he stopped for a moment to make sure that he hadn’t been followed and then pushed open aside the bushed dodging quickly when Masaki struck out with a thick branch barely missing his face.
“Nino-sama…Why are you trying to hit Nino-sama!” Takayuki shouted smacking the frightened boy hard on the back of his head. Nino relaxed into a smile when he saw that they were both frightened but unharmed.
“There were some men in the forest, they are injured…We will have to take them back to the house…” He whispered the lie slipping easily past his lips before taking the boy’s hand in hand in his and threading their fingers together and continuing with “I am sorry, Takayuki… I will apologise to you for the rest of the year for ignoring you in our special place, but I did not mean to…It is just that Masaki has very few friends, like us…So I thought that he would like to be our friend…”
“Really?” Takayuki asked with a frown looking at Nino and then at Masaki who played along giving a small nod and a smile. “Okay then…I guess that I can share a little bit…Bu-but Nino-sama is mine!”
“Indeed I am…” Nino agreed happy that his boy was being so understanding while at the whole time aware of the men in the forest and the mystery that was around Ohno Satoshi.

A/N: Hangovers are awful…My brother got me to go out with him last night and I realise now that I’m too old for shots…>.< I wanted to update sleeping with the boss today but it was only half complete so it will be up tomorrow instead...I hope that this was okay ^_^
