krystalkatzficzMasaki watched as the twins looked at each other having one of their conversations with just their faces. He knew that they were going to accept Sho. Who wouldn’t? Even after all these years he was still perfect, more so than he had been back then because now he had an air of confidence about him that had never been present when they were kids. He had listened to the speech he gave about why they hadn’t been together and he was surprised that not once did he blame him. In fact it was like he had tried to defend him. The letter that Sho had given him was tucked into his pocket feeling like a dead weight against his chest and he couldn’t wait for night to come so he could read it, though at the same time he was terrified of it. He pulled his attention back to the present and to the twins who had turned back to Sho and were nodding with bright smiles.
“Of course…Can we call you papa? Other daddy sounds weird and Uncle…Hmm…” The twins frowned waving their hands around a little as their noses wrinkled. Masaki felt his heart expand inside his chest at the question while feeling a little strange. It was all happening a little quickly for him and he couldn’t help but feel that because of him they had missed out on a lot of things because of him. He had tried to give them what they needed and he knew that Nino and Ohno would have helped but birthdays had always been homemade cakes with homemade presents and although he was glad that Sho had their approval he was very conscious of the fact that Sho could offer them more than he could.
“I…Don’t think that I’ve earned that right yet…But I would be very happy if you did…” Sho answered and Masaki wanted to moan at the strange little half smile that formed on the lips. It was a look that he had seen a lot when they were dating, in fact he was sure that it was the first thing that he fell in love with, and it was still enough to and the twins had another of their silent conversations and then they nodded
“Okay, Papa…So while we’re getting to know each other that means that you have to spend time with Daddy!”
“You two are worse than Nino…” Masaki said weakly getting to his feet and hurrying out of the room needing some room as he mumbled “I’d better check the cake…” In the hall he found Nino and Ohno who had pressed themselves into the wall and were eavesdropping with guilty expressions on their faces while flashing him matching grins almost looking like the twins. “What are you...?”
“Um…Well...We didn’t want to disturb…” Nino said recovering more quickly than his counterpart did and Masaki gave a sigh shaking his head and walking off not wanting to deal with his friend. His mind was already too confused and he could smell the soft scent of cake that was almost ready to burn. “Masaki…Don’t run away…I’m too top heavy to be chasing you through the corridors…” Nino grunted huffing and puffing his hands on his stomach but Masaki ignored him almost slamming the kitchen door as he moved through.
“Go away…” He growled throwing open the oven door only just moving back when the steam bellowed out almost scorching his face. He closed his eyes tightly groping around for the tea towel not even sure why he was feeling the way that he was. Why couldn’t he just accept what Sho was offering him?
“Nope…” Nino refused his hands moving up and down his back in soothing circles as he put the cake down on the resting tray. He leaned against the side staring out of the window his knuckles going white as he gripped the counter top biting on his bottom lip “You’re my best friend and I loved you longer than I’ve loved anyone else and I can read you better than anyone else can and I can tell that you’re terrified…”
“I’m not…” He denied untruthfully but he was immediately shot down by Nino letting out a laugh his stomach pressing into his back as he wrapped his arms around him tightly.
“Yes you are…Masa…If you weren’t I would have been worried…” He said his lips finding a way against the back of his neck “My crazy idiotic friend…This has to be a nightmare for you…I’m sorry for earlier I shouldn’t have pushed you like that…But because I love you so much that I just want you to be happy…”
“I am happy…I have the children…I have you…” Masaki pointed out and the arms around him squeezed tightly as the baby kicked against his spine.
“Yup and you take care of us all really well, but who looks after you?” Nino asked in a whisper as his lips once again pressed against his neck
“Nino…I’m fine…I don’t need anyone to look after me” Masaki sighed while adding ‘Who would want me anyway? Sho did but that was because he was still in love with the past. If they got together he would just wake up and see the old tired face and the stretch marks on his stomach and he would wonder why.
“Look at yourself in that mirror…” Nino ordered his voice cutting through his thoughts and Masaki blinked doing as he was ordered staring into the square face mirror that he had on his windowsill. It was strange how much time he spent not looking at it. He knew all lines and shadows he had. At the moment he was pale and it looked like he was only a moment away from crying his bottom lip was bruised and almost bloody and the crow’s feet around his eyes were the deepest that he had ever seen them “What do you see?”
“A tired old man…”
“See that’s why you’re an idiot…” Nino muttered turning him around and cupping his face with his hands “Do you know what I see?”
“No…An idiot?” Masaki joked weakly and Nino gave a grin kissing his cheek and nodding as he answered;
“Yeah…Always that…But I also see somebody that had twins at 16, only six years older than they are now, Jesus, Masaki I’m 26 and I’m fucking terrified I have no idea how you managed to not be back then...You moved away to the middle of no-where with no money and worked yourself sick to raise two of the most loving children that have ever walked the face of this planet…You’ve worked every spare hour you had to make sure they had the best you could give…A few lines and grey hairs are nothing compared to that…You’re amazing, hell you’re my personal hero…And anyone would be lucky if you’d have them…”
“Nino…Isn’t that a little corny for you?” Masaki breathed never, not once in all their years of friendship, had he heard Nino say anything like that to him and he was stunned to hear it now.
“Yup, well you can blame the little lady…She’s already as sappy as the old man and it’s making me tell the truth…” Nino grumbled rubbing his swollen stomach “Don’t get used to it…As soon as she’s out of here it will all be back to normal…But I will still think of you as my hero, somebody that I’m proud has stayed by my side and I won’t let you give up on this…”
“…He gave me a letter…I was going to read it lat…”
“Read it now…I can ice the cake, Sho is with the children…Read it…If I remember rightly the sensei was always better at the written words…”
“Okay…Fine…” Masaki muttered pulling the bulky letter out of his pocket and staring at his name written on the envelope before marching out of the kitchen through the door and going into the garden. He sat on a stone bench that was covered in moss. His fingers were trembling as he fumbled around with the envelope pulling open the flap to reveal parts of an old photo. A photo that had been ripped into neat little squares that he could put together like a jigsaw to reveal a picture of his face dressed in the school uniform. Confused he pulled out the neatly folded letter and slowly began reading.

And I love Nino's speech/confession of how he thinks about Masaki.. He needed to hear something encouraging like that ne :') :') :').
