I wanted to marry you part 13
The air in the kitchen fizzled and slowly Sho turned to look into the faces of his children who were staring first at him and then at Masaki with narrowed eyes and calculating expressions on their faces. Sho wanted to groan loudly he should have known that it would be impossible for them to keep it a secret, Katrina had figured it out easily enough, but he had been hoping that they could keep it to themselves for a few days at least like Masaki had wanted.
“J-Jun…Shoko…Um…Uncle Sho…” Masaki started slowly his voice sounding strangely high pitched. Sho frowned a little at the reaction, he hadn’t imagined that the children knowing would be so bad. At least not for Masaki, Sho could imagine that he’d have a few difficult questions to answer like why he had deserted them or something. Sho nervously licked his lips waiting for them to speak but when they did it wasn’t what they were expecting.
“Brought us presents!” they said together completely destroying the tension as their matching smiles once again spread over their lips their faces turning to the boxes that were still on the floor.
“Yes!” Sho hissed latching onto it as quickly as he could going to the presents while Katrina gave a laugh “I hope you don’t mind, but since I’ve missed all your birthdays and Christmases…I thought…I wasn’t sure…”
“Why don’t you take uncle Sho into the living room and then he can show you your presents…They seem so interesting…” Masaki smiled recovering a little from shock and Sho was relieved that he wasn’t going to reject the presents.
“Did uncle Sho get you anything daddy?” Shoko asked before they could be ushered out and Jun nodded his eyes going to the package that Masaki was fingering. The remark seemed to remind Masaki that he was still holding the present that Sho had brought him.
“Yes…Um…” Masaki nodded holding it up now and the twins ran to him looking like excited puppies and they grabbed his hands and arms jumping up and down.
“What did you get?! Open it!” they chorused loudly and Sho could imagine little tails wagging and floppy doggy ears bouncing up and down. He let out a laugh leaning against the walk service as slowly Masaki shrugged them off and pulled off the wrapping that the shop had insisted on putting around all of the gifts except the jersey. The green and red glass frame appeared and Masaki let out a gasp his hand almost trembling as it ran over the glass like he was touching something to be treasured
“It’s beautiful Sho…Thank-you…” He breathed his finger moving over the writing as he looked up at him with almost misty eyes. Sho gave him his best smile his hand moving through his hair murmuring;
“I thought that maybe you could put a picture of you and the children…”
“Uncle Sho should be in it too!” Jun announced and Shoko nodded happily
“Yes you should be!” She agreed and Sho felt his heart flipping and dancing around in his chest. He would love nothing more than to be in a picture with his family but he knew that was too much too soon and he cleared his throat a little;
“I think that should be for your father to decide but for now do you want to see what I’ve got for you?” He asked and the children nodded their faces showing only a little bit of their disappointment that they seemed to be feeling. “Come on Kitty-kat…”
“Kat-chan? What are you doing here?” Shoko said with some surprise only just seeming to notice that she was there.
“Uncle Sho is my uncle…” Katrina answered with a smile her eyes going to Jun the apples of her cheeks flushing just a little and Shoko laughed her hands clapping together as she bounced up and down again as Sho gathered up the presents. He was glad that his daughter and niece seemed to be such good friends already, his Kitty-Kat didn’t seem to have many friends. There were a few teammates that she hung around with but other than that she was a lonely child.
“Wow, now that has to be a coincidence! That we are friends when we didn’t know that Uncle Sho and my daddy were friends a long time ago…Did you know that I was named after your uncle Sho?”
“Uncle Sho told me yesterday! I thought it was amusing!” She said effortlessly lying with a smile and Sho decided that if she didn’t have a career in athletics then she would have as an actress. They walked into the living area with Jun lagging behind his eyes going to what Sho assumed was the bathroom and he saw that there was a lot of concern in his face.
“I’ll check on him if you like…” He offered softly, in fact he was pretty sure that Nino was in the advanced stages of pregnancy and he was sure that, even in male pregnancy, sickness this late was strange.
“Huh? Um…Uncle Ohno tries to look after Nino but…He gets flustered…” Jun shrugged biting at the corner of his mouth and Sho noticed that there was not an ‘Uncle’ in front of Nino’s name. He wasn’t sure if it was cute or weird that his ten year old son had a crush on a man that he must have viewed as a step-father at some point. “Um if you could look after him…”
“I’ll do my best…I’m sure he’ll be okay…” Sho answered with a nod and Jun beamed showing all of his wonky teeth the mole on his bottom lip stretching and Sho was very happy that he could make him so happy;
“Thank-you…You’re really nice, Uncle Sho…”
“Thanks…So you should open your present…” he said his hand ruffling through Jun’s hair and the boy gave a nod his eyes sparking with interest at the packages he was carrying. Sho sat down in the chair that he had sat in yesterday and then took off the top parcel. It was large and bulky wrapped in blue paper with silver stars. “That’s for you…” he told his son, who took it with both hands almost falling over under the weight.
“Wow, uncle Sho, you carried these…” He whistled and Sho shrugged while Katrina shouted out
“Uncle Sho likes to exercise!”
“A little, Shoko-chan…This is for you…” Sho said pushing the pretty purple present to Shoko whose eyes shone brightly her bow mouth twisting into a very pretty smile.
“Thank-you!” She gasped her hands moving over the gift in a similar way that Masaki’s had and Sho chuckled shaking his head a little as he said;
“You should open them…”
Carefully the twins pulled back the wrappings on their presents slowly from the corners watching each other and making sure that neither went faster than the other. For a few minutes there was nothing but the sound of unwrapping and then two loud squeaks of surprise and delight as the paper finally gave way and the gifts were revealed.
“Wow! A globe! A writing desk!” they said together turning to look at him “I saw this in the shop!”
Sho laughed wondering if Masaki ever got confused by the way he got everything in stereo. The children pulled out the gifts and their faces told him everything he needed to know, that the present were what they wanted. Shoko’s eyes were fixed on the picture of the globe while Jun was already opening up his.
“Wasn’t this very expensive?” He mumbled and Sho gave a shrug;
“It doesn’t matter…Just this once ne?”
“Daddy said that he was going to save up, we knew that he wouldn’t be able to buy them, not really…” Jun sighed as he took out the pens watching them shine in the light before losing his smile “It must be nice to just be able to buy what you want…I’m going to write my book and get very famous so that I can get lots of money and daddy won’t have to work again…He makes himself sick…”
“…Uncle Sho…Can’t you marry daddy?” Shoko put in looking up from the globe looking very serious “You love him don’t you? You look at him like Uncle Satoshi looks at Uncle Nino…That’s love… If you married him then daddy wouldn’t have to work so much…So will you?”
