Nino sat on the horse his back pressed up against his love’s chest while keeping his eyes on the children that were riding in the carriage with Aiba. They had left the palace almost immediately after breakfast, the trip was going to be a slow one as they couldn’t push Kazuhiko too far without him needing rest so Ohno had arranged for them to spend two nights on the road. Kazuhiko looked nervous and excited his eyes darting around as Satoru and Hotaru pointed out things to him. Shoko and Himeko were talking rapidly to Aiba about their new home. Nino smiled as his friend tried to answer the best that he could while looking like he was ready to burst with excitement himself. That morning he had been ranting about getting back to his monkey.

“Are you happy?” Ohno asked suddenly, his voice vibrating through his chest while his breath blew against his ear filling his stomach with happy buzzing.

“I am very happy...I will be happier still when we are home, my love” Nino answered stroking the hands that held the reins of the horse. He was more than happy that he was going home “I am think of the first time you brought me from the palace as your reward...I confess that I never thought that I would be this happy with you my lord...”

“I am sorry...” Ohno whispered his voice thick with emotion he too thinking about what had happened between them. Nino shook his head linking their fingers the best that his could as he carefully pressed back into the chest of his lover as he breathed in the scent of the air for a minute.

“Please do not apologise...I would not change a moment of it now, my lord, because although so many things have happened between us...” Nino’s voice broke a little as he thought about all the things that had happened between them and he felt Ohno pressed up behind him his scarred cheek rubbing against his “Painful things, scary things but when I look back in the future I will know that there is not a thing that I would change...I am happy and content with you...Though sometimes...”

“Yes...?” Ohno prompted when Nino stopped speaking lost in his thoughts for a minute his eyes closing as a few birds cooed in the trees around them. The sun was shining through the trees causing the backs of his eyelids to glow a bright red for a moment before he had formed enough strands of his mind to come together to form the thoughts that he wanted to say,

“Sometimes...I worry that our love is formed only on the trials that we have faced...If we are really to settle into the life of domesticity will your love for me to fade...” He said, he knew that it was stupid but it was a thought that was bugging him for a while,

“You believe I love you only for the excitement?” Ohno asked a growl tinging his words and Nino shivered his mind really going back to the day he first left the palace “Even when I have told you countless times that the sight of you with our children makes me happier and love you more than the thought of you in peril ever could...”

“It is a stupid worry my lord...” Nino said in a mutter, he knew it was but he did like hearing his lord confirming it, it made him feel good inside.
“Indeed it is...” Ohno chuckled pressing his lips to his cheek before whispering in his ear “And to sooth your fears, my Kazunari, I hereby promise that I will tell you that I love you each morning when you wake up and each night before you go to sleep...”

“As romantic as that would be, my love, please do not...” Nino giggled happily turning the best that he could so he could press light kisses to his jaw line “If you do then the words would become so common that I would take them for granted...I would rather you say them when you truly felt them...”

“Then they would become even more common, my Kazunari, for I feel them whenever I see you breathe...Whenever I hear you speak and whenever I see your eyes looking at me...” Ohno told him in a voice that was dripping with enough that caused Nino to shiver with happiness and his voice trembled with the excitement that he had inside of him.

“...My lord...When did you become so sweet tongued?” He managed to say knowing that his cheeks were burning brightly and Ohno chuckled squeezing him tightly their cheeks rubbing together pleasantly,

“From the moment that I realised that I was in love with you I wanted to be able to tell you this...Would you like to see where that happened?” His lord said softly and Nino frowned his head tilting to one side once again twisting around to look around at the scarred face.

“My lord...?”

“I will show you I promise...” Ohno told him in a mysterious voice that caused Nino’s curiosity to burn until Kazuhiko started to cry loudly. The horses and cart came to a stop and Nino jumped down from the back of the horse with more ease than he would have done before and ran over jumping into the cart and scooping him into his arms.

“Ama...Ko...Sleepybye...” Kazuhiko said through his tears and hiccups and Nino rocking him from side to side his lips pressing to the top of his head as he settled down holding him so that the boy could sleep.

“Tired, Kazuhiko? Mama will sit with you and then you can sleep...We’ll be in the inn soon” He crooned softly slipping in arm around Satoru too so that he too could sleep. Ohno smiled down at him from the horse and Nino grinned back before turning his attention to the children and humming a nursery rhyme which Aiba joined in with. They stopped before dark in a small inn and had lunch and a soak before continuing on at next light. The pace was once again slow and peaceful but Nino noticed his lord was looking fidgety scanning the road ahead and to the side of them and Nino was beginning to realise that they were close to where they were attacked that first day. “My lord do you expect an attack?”

“No...I promised that I would show you something...The children too...come on...” Ohno said getting down from his horse and holding his hand out. Nino frowned but took the offered hand holding Kazuhiko in one arm while Ohno picked up Satoru “Stay close...”

“Aiba...” Nino murmured looking at his friend who shook his head with a smile patting his tin daughter’s heads as they played about with their dolls in the cart acting like little girls instead of young women,

“The girls and I will stay here...” Aiba told him and Nino smiled allowing himself to be pulled through the forest. The trip was slow and long and more than once did Nino wobble dangerously almost tripping on the undergrowth but he slowly realised where they were going, more so when he heard the babbling of a brook.

“This is where...Wind’s Honour brought me...” Nino whispered as they entered the clearing and looked around, it was exactly the same as it had been all those months ago and Nino was almost expecting to see the noble beautiful horse coming towards him to nuzzle at his cheek or help him stand and he choked as tears formed in his eyes for a minute.

“Mama are you sad?” Satoru asked gently and Nino quickly wiped his eyes and shook his head with a smile

“A little, I am missing papa’s horse...He saved my life by bringing me here once...” Nino answered kissing his sons hand while Kazuhiko patted his face with a smile.

“Before...I was attracted to you, I wanted to own you...But it was not until I saw you here alive that I realised just how much I had come to care for you...” Ohno told him and Nino turned looking at his lover. He could remember that day so clearly, it was the first time that he had ever thought that he was going to die but Wind’s Honour had saved him, bringing him here until his lover had come for him. He set Kazuhiko down to play in the tiny flowers beside the brook with Satoru and Hotaru before fully turning his attention to his lord “Seeing you here...Injured but alive I knew that it was more...I never believed that you would care for me too...But I wanted you to know...”

“My love came for you later...” Nino said softly stepping forward and wrapping his arms around his neck acutely aware that his children were watching them. Satoru was giggling loudly while Kazuhiko looked confused and hesitant while Hotaru and Jun were blushing and doing their best not to look. “I am surprised to know your love was so quickly formed...”

“Yes...But the reason that I brought to this place is to reassure you that you no matter what I will love you” Ohno told him his lips pressing to ear “I hope that we will live together for many years without incident...And even then I will love you...everything about you...”

“I hope that nothing will happen...Just you me and our children...The emperor not bothering us anymore...” Nino said happily knowing that it was just a happy dream, the emperor had many enemies and in the future he would call on his love again but for now it was a dream that he wanted to cling on to “Come my lord take your lover and your family to your home...”

“Our home...Before it was just a castle but you turned it into a home...”

A/N: I honestly couldn’t think of an ending for this so in the end it just ended...I hope that it’s okay like this, 275723 words, 690 pages and lots of late nights have gone into this and I’m positive that there are parts that dragged and bored you but I’m happy that you’ve stayed with me until the end...Gambitsfox I hope that you have enjoyed your birthday present ^_^
