The drive to Zorko’s was quiet and Masako kept her eyes on her dad who was either glaring at the road or shooting looks at Jun who was doing his best to not look out of place in the front seat. Sho was holding her hand but he was staring out of the window looking like he was counting the cars that they passed. Masako sighed and then gave a straggled giggle unable to cope with the silence anymore
“Sho-chan...You’re still in university right? What are you studying?” She asked desperately and with a blink Sho pulled his eyes from the window and turned to look at her a smile on his face.
“Business management...Your dad promised me that he would make me under manager of his company...” Sho answered and Masako was both surprised and glad, as far as she understood it her father did very little in running the various companies that his parents had started up, there was only two that she knew he had direct involvement in and she was always worried that people might be ripping her father off but if Sho was going to be working there than that meant he would have a friend on the inside that would look after her father. Sho’s eyes went to Nino his fingers of his free hand moving through his hair as his poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue whistling “But...”
“You’re not going to be blamed because of your father’s unfortunate choice in women...” Nino murmured from the front seat as they pulled up at a traffic light. Masako watched as her dad used the time to reach over and take Jun’s hand in his bringing the fingers to his lips. She found herself smiling and then giggling when Jun looked happy and embarrassed squirming around in his seat
“God she’s a witch though...” Sho murmured and Masako had to agree “I can’t believe that dad would want to be with someone like that...”
“She has your grandparent’s approval and that’s good enough for your dad...” Nino sighed letting go of Jun’s hand again as the traffic started moving “They like her so...You know how much his parent’s opinion matters to Oh-chan...”
“But it’s not right...She’s awful, he can’t really love her...Can’t you talk him out of it? I mean the woman is obviously just using him...I don’t know what for though...”
“...Sho...I’ll listen to your complaints and rants but I won’t say anything... The last thing that I want is your dad or your grandparent’s saying that I was trying to turn you against Aarin...”
“She did that herself, the way that she talked to Ma-Ma and you...She was awful...It was like she was already prepared to look down on you...Have you met her before?”
“Once or twice...She’s not my biggest fan, but I’m not hers either...” Nino sighed and Masako could see the pinched pained expression in his face through the reflection and she gave him a reassuring smile and he grinned a little “But you can’t win them all...Honestly she hasn’t been as bad as she was today before most of the time she was polite...”
“I guess it was because she had her nose put out of joint cause you’re not just a manager...” Sho said and Jun snorted as he tried to open one of the chocolate bars after Nino had gestured to it. Masako couldn’t help but think of how in sync they appeared to be after such a short time and she was glad that her friend was there for her father. She wasn’t completely blind she knew that her dad was suffering but Jun seemed to be softening the blow of losing Ohno and she fought a giggle when Jun broke off a square of chocolate and fed it Nino so he could keep both hands on the wheel.
“I don’t think she has enough nose left for it to be put out of joint...” Jun mumbled darkly still managing to blush hotly when Nino sucked on his fingers. Masako giggled nodding her head as she added,
“She must be worried at the moment in this heat she might melt...”
“That would be horrible...” Sho agreed with a laugh and a grimace squeezing her hand “Though she might melt just as quickly if we pour water over her...”
“I wonder where she keeps her flying monkeys” Jun mused thoughtfully and the car as soon filled with laughter. They carried on in the same style throughout the rest of the journey and Masako noted that, although he laughed along with them, not once did Nino join in.
*~*~*~*~*
Jun couldn’t help but feel excitement as they pulled into the entrance to Zorko’s. All thoughts of Ohno and the witch slipped happily from his mind as he looked at the scene in front of him. He had always dreamed about coming here ever since it opened 11 years ago and he had seen the advert of happy children running around and having fun. The row of cars was impossibly long but Jun was focused on the hotel that was shaped like a giant big top striped with green and yellow. When they got to the entrance Nino reached into the glove box and raffled around for a minute pulling out a card that had his picture on it. The man in the booth seemed to stand a little straighter and quickly waved them through the gates. Jun stared at his older lover an idea forming in his mind causing his stomach to knot and churn a little. He was sure that it was impossible but it was the only thing that fit all of the evidence, evidence that grew when instead of going to one of the large car parks with the other cars Nino drove right up to the hotel doors and stepped out as a man in a deep red blazer and tight white trousers came hurrying down the red carpeted stairs. Jun got out of the car slowly surprised when his bag was taken away by a man in in a smart clown costume.
“That one wants going in my room...” Nino said and the clown nodded and Jun was sure he was smiling but it was hard to tell under the paint he was wearing.
“Ninomiya-sama, Masako-sama, Sho-sama...It has been too long since you visited...” The ‘ring master’ said in a simpering kind of voice as he bobbed up and down like a jack in the box.
“You’re Zorko...” Jun hissed looking at Nino who gave a laugh shaking his head with a grin that made his eyes sparkle like he had just pulled off a great magic trick and Jun knew that he was right. He turned and stared at Masako who blushed as she shrugged. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I meant to...But...When I was little people only became friends with me so they could come here...You were different...” She answered and Jun guessed that he could understand that. Fake friends was one of the things that could truly hurt his friend and he quickly gave her a smile to show that he understood but that didn’t stop him from looking at Nino with a raised eyebrow. The man was full of secrets that he would never be able to guess, who was he meant to know that a man that drove a simple car and dressed in jeans and t-shirts owned one of the biggest amusement parks in japan?
“So you really are the proper Zorko?” He asked and Nino shook his head taking his hand and linking their fingers as the ring master led them up the stairs and into the hotel.
“Zorko is actually a doll...One of Masako’s doll’s...He still lives here now...” Nino answered nodding at a glass case with housed a replica of the theme park which was scaled to fit the 11” doll that was dressed like a fool with a big grin on his face and bells for buttons “That is Zorko...But yeah I own this place...I had it built for Masako...Everything here is her idea... There was a real designer at one point but he followed the plan that Masako gave him...” Once again Nino nodded with his head and there on the wall was a child drawing of the park done in brightly coloured crayon and stickers of animals in enclosures.
“Sho-chan helped...” Masako said meekly and Jun just shook his head wondering at how much his friend should have been different, he couldn’t imagine many people that owned a theme park caught the bus to school every day and ate homemade bento’s but he guessed that it was something about her dad. Even here now he seemed to be content in just walking around normally and there were no pictures of him on the walls though there was one of a little girl in tiger face paint and a pink ruffled dress cutting a silk ribbon with a pair of large gold scissors. She looked different but if you knew Masako, you tell that the grin was still the same and so were the wrinkles in the corners of her eyes. Masako came over to him and tucked her arm into his her cheek pressing against his shoulder “I’m sorry I never told you...”
“It’s not important...We’re here to have fun ne?” He said and Nino grinned kissing his cheek leading him to a lift.
“First we should freshen up...” He purred and Jun felt lust collect in his groin as he nodded eagerly.
