I hate vampires part 13 (SakurAiba Chapter)

Aiba opened his eyes with a loud groan rubbing the bump that had formed on his head. It took him a few moments to realise that he wasn’t in his room in the servant’s area but in a lavish beautifully decorated room. Above him with crimson red hangings and the bed was a deep cherry wood turning his aching head slightly he saw that all of the furniture was made of the same wood and inlaid with gold and enamels. He was about to sit up when he felt someone come to rest at his side.

“You shouldn’t move around too much you gave your head quite a wallop...” The silky voice said and Aiba looked up straight into warm brown eyes and a handsome face

“You’re Sakurai-sama...” He said his voice faint and almost dreamy and he blinked trying to piece together what had happened. His hand slipped down from his head when he felt a tiny twinge of pain in his neck. With trembling hands he reached out and touched a soft fabric bandage and it came back to him like lighting “You bit me...”

“I didn’t mean too...I didn’t drink from you...I swear...I didn’t mean it...My body just...Sort of reacted...” Sakurai muttered looking oddly guilty for a vampire and Aiba gave a strained giggle that he knew surprised the vampire.

“Sorry!” He muttered quickly, thinking that the vampire was going to punish him for laughing instead there was a weird, warm chuckle from the vampire. “Um...Where am I? This...Is this still the palace?”

“You’re still in the palace... You’re just in my room...” The vampire answered and Aiba flinched back looking around the room again wondering why he was here with a vampire and why he didn’t feel as scared as he should be. He wasn’t like Nino, he didn’t hate the vampires as a whole but he had to admit that they gave him the creeps but Sakurai didn’t seem to have that effect on him. In fact when he had been in his room he had found himself wanting to get closer to the door wanting to see the vampire that was behind it. He couldn’t understand all that was going on but, even if his head wasn’t thinking about it, his heart had decided that it trusted this vampire.

“Um why...?” He asked still hesitant his head wondering if the vampire was going to change at any moment and attack him again. Sakurai sighed once again looking guilty as he played around with the red and gold bedspread for a couple of minutes,

“Because...Earlier when I bit you I didn’t drink from you but I did something much worse...Or better depending on how you look at it...” He answered and although he had no idea what those words would mean his found them slight ominous and a shiver ran down his spine and he barely whispered,

“What did you do?”

“I...I marked you as mine...” Sakurai answered hesitantly his eyes flickering to the bandage around his neck and Aiba found himself touching it again as he said shakily,

“What...I don’t understand...”

Sakurai seemed barely able to look at him now his eyes fixed on the bedspread his finger tracing over the flowery pattern and Aiba felt his nervous growing wondering what could be so bad about the marking that would cause a vampire to look so troubled. He was just about to speak again when Sakurai sighed and then needlessly cleared his throat

“The marked...We used to call them pets...And they were but...They were much more than that...” He said not helping the confusion that was swirling around and around in Aiba’s mind and Sakurai bit his lip showing just the hint of his fang before trying another tactic “Before we took over and we didn’t want to draw attention to ourselves we would make contracts with humans, in return for their blood we would watch over them...Give them houses, wealth and power...It was a fair deal back then...Now we don’t use pets...We have no need too...It is a very outdated system and most people call it old fashioned...”

“It sounds nicer than what you do now...” Aiba mumbled softly thinking about it. Now humans were cattle living in wooden barracks and fed only standardised gruel that was enough to give them the nutrients they needed while making their blood tasty for their vampire masters. Sakurai though gave a heavy sigh and shook his head.

“...Not really...What we didn’t tell them is that over time they would go crazy, age prematurely and then get sick, very sick...” He murmured and Aiba felt his eyes getting wide as his mouth dropped open staring at the vampire “The average age of death of a pet was only 25 years...Their bodies just couldn’t survive past that...”

“I’m...I’m going to die? When I’m 25...” The human gasped weakly, to be fair the average life of a cattle human was only 67 but it was better than 25. In his life he didn’t have much to look forward too. He and Nino would be just in cleaning until they were too weak to work and then they would be shipped to one of the farms. It wasn’t much of a life but it was his life and now he felt that what little he had left was going to be stripped away from him because of an accident from a vampire. He had never hated vampires before but now he wanted to echo Nino’s earlier sentiment and scream ‘I hate vampires’ from the top of his lungs.
“No...No that isn’t going to happen...I promise you...I couldn’t let you die even if I wanted to...” Sakurai said in a rush and Aiba felt like his anger had been doused with cold water and he stared at the vampire waiting for him to continue “You’re different...Your scent called to me and I knew that I just had to have you...It was like the royals and their pull...It is very rare...So rare that there has only ever been two mentions of it in our entire history...Believe me I have searched the archives repeatedly...The first time was in England back in 1348 at the start of the black death...A vampire made a deal with a maid and then in Germany in the 1600’s a vampire made a deal with a beggar...”

“Um...Okay...” He said wondering if the other man was going to reach a point soon because he was getting lost again.

“Sorry...I am not royal we don’t have soul mates like they do...But sometimes very rarely like I have mentioned we have a soul bounded human...And you are mine...”

“What does that mean?” He asked and Sakurai gave a smile that seemed to light up his whole face and knock the wind out of Aiba’s lungs as his heart raced.

“It means that you are mine...We belong together as much as the prince and your friend...” Sakurai whispered gently and Aiba’s brain flared and he gave a loud gasp and then almost shouted,

“Nino..? Nino’s with the prince?

“Yes...Your friend is the prince’s soul mate...They are currently in the middle of being completely joined...” Sakurai explained and once again Aiba didn’t understand anything that was being said but very quickly the vampire told him the process of becoming soul bonded to a royal vampire. The tie sounded painful and he was glad that he hadn’t been the one that caught the royal vampire’s attention but he had to say one thing.

“But...But Nino hates vampires...”

“Then we are going to have a very amusing future queen...” Sakurai laughed and Aiba bit his lip stopping himself from joining in the laughter feeling bad for his friend and hoping that he was okay. The strange ‘It’s all good’ attitude had settled over him again and Sakurai must have noticed that he had relaxed because he shifted closer to him on the bed and gently held his hand.

“Um...What...What does that mean about us? Um...I don’t understand what happens now...” Aiba whispered and Sakurai gave a sigh sucking on his bottom lip now before he released it and kissed his hand saying,

“Aiba I am very sorry that I bit you as I did...But...We were meant to be together...You are pretty much my soul mate the way that your friend is Jun’s we are meant to be together...I would like to ask if you would give me some time to prove this to you...”

“I...I...Um...I think that I would like that, Sakurai-sama...” Aiba admitted his head tilting to one side “Will I still have to work in clean up?”

“No...As far as anyone would be concerned for now you are my pet...It may be an outdated system but they will still respect that...You will be treated no different than to how I am treated I wouldn’t allow it...” Sakurai answered and Aiba let out a slight giddy sounding laugh muttering,

“Good because I’m useless at clean up” Before fainting again.
