krystalkatzficzMasako sighed kicking a stone along the beach her mind a flurry of activity, she wondered if her dad knew that Ohno’s fiancée was coming? If he didn’t it was going to be a nasty shock for him and she really hoped having Jun to focus on would soften it a little. It was the first time that she had hear her papa talking about forgetting Ohno so seriously and she hoped that he would be able to. Her mama had told her, in a sad little voice, that for Nino Ohno was like a drug he knew that it was bad for him but he kept going back for more every time. A cool wind blew in spite of the heat and she wrapped her arms around herself munching on her lip her mind going back to Sho and the aquarium. It had sounded like he was going to say something important until they had caught sight of Ohno
“...But not just that...I...”
Masako stopped feeling her cheeks growing warm as she wondered if Sho had been about to confess. She giggled and shook her head, pushing that silly thought away as quickly as it had arrived there was no way that he would confess to her, no matter what Jun said. She sighed loudly and turned on the spot sitting on a small sand dune she looked out at the ocean.
She had been there for about five minutes just watching the waves, imagining the fishes that lived there and wondering if it was possible that somewhere mermaids and mermen really existed. It was possible, all of the sea hadn’t been explored maybe they were just another branch of people that had taken to the seas instead of land. When two shadows fell over her, she turned pushing her thoughts away her heart skipping a little when she didn’t recognise the two men that were standing over her.
They were western, stocky with pot bellies that hung over hideous lime green shorts, shirts were hung over their hairy shoulders, they were leering at her in a way that made her skin crawl and quickly she scrambled to her feet shouting out when a meaty hand rested on her bottom.
>What are you doing out here all alone, love? < The one with his hand on her bum said and Masako tried desperately to work out what he was saying. Her English had always been dodgy just like her dads who used his phones translator when he needed to confirm a show for Ohno aboard. As she was trying to decipher the words the other grabbed her arm holding it tightly grinning and showing yellow broken teeth,
>Yeah...You should come with us and we’ll show you a good time....<
>I sorry...I speak...No English...< She said with a smile trying to pull away from him her heart beating so fast that she was positive that it was about to explode. She had never felt so frightened and the feeling only grew when the man’s grip tightened on her arm.
>That’s okay pet you don’t need to speak at all...<
Masako was struggling now kicking at the sand gasping in fear when the first man came up behind her holding her tightly. There was a shout from up the beach and Masako looked up to see Sho running towards them his face twisted in anger
>What are you playing at? Get off of my fiancée...< He shouted at the two men and one again Masako was lost as to what was actually being side. When the two men released her she hurried over to Sho tucking into his side as closely as she could glad when his arm slipped around her.
>Sorry mate, we didn’t know that she had a feller...< The one that had touched her bum said holding up his hands as Sakurai clenched his fists tightly. All of the well-defined muscles in his arm clenched and Masako felt very warm and safe. Her father had teased a few times over the years that Sho was growing air muscles for show but Masaki realised now that there was nothing for show about them and she rested her cheeks against the tight muscle in his upper arm.
>You didn’t have to know...From the way she was struggling you could tell that she wasn’t interested...< Sho seethed in anger and Masako was surprised when he took a step forward. She wrapped her arms around his stomach shaking her head when he looked at her. She wasn’t sure if Sho could fight, but even if he could there were two of the men and they both looked very unpleasant >any way this is private property...Leave before I call the police...<
>Fine we’ll leave no need to get the police involved...Fucking pansy...< They scoffed as they marched back up the beach towards the road and Masako and Sho watched until they had vanished from view.
“What the hell were you playing at?” Sho shouted once they had gone and he had pulled from her grip
“You should be more aware of yourself you’re not a child anymore...You’re a young woman...”
“I know that! I was just sitting on the beach when they came up to me! I didn’t do anything! They shouldn’t have been...here” Masako shouted back here voice breaking towards the end as tears came into her eyes now the danger had passed. She hadn’t done anything to encourage them after all, so why was he being so shout-y at her? “I’m sorry Sho-chan...I didn’t...I didn’t...”
“Ssh...I’m sorry for shouting Ma-Ma...But you’re so clueless sometimes...I worry about you...” Sho sighed grabbing her hand and pulling her into a hug so tight that she was worried that he was going to cut off her oxygen supply
“You haven’t seen me since we were kids...” She mumbled stupidly and Sho laughed resting his chin on her shoulder
“I still worry about you, idiot...You’re mine aren’t you?”
“Huh...What...?” Masako blinked pulling away from the hug when Sho started reaching into his pocket pulling out a green box. Her heart skipped frantically against her ribs as he opened it only to come back to reality when she saw brown dried up flowers “What’s that?”
“This is the engagement ring that you gave me when I twelve and you were six...” Sho laughed his free hand brushing through his hair and Masako blushed, her mouth dropping open in surprise. “It was about here right? You marched up to me with that really big smile on your face and pushed this onto my finger and said...I think it was ‘Now you’re mine...Nobody else is allowed Sho-chan ‘cause you’re my second love and we’re engaged...’” he said laughing again while Masako cringed at the weird butterflies that were making her feel sick. She looked away cringing at the memory of her child self brightly declaring those exact words on this spot.
“I was a really stupid kid, ne?” She mumbled kicking a lump of sand and shuffling her feet while Sho gave a loud laugh clicking the box shut again and shaking his head
“You were adorable...Do you know how many fights I got into because of you?”
“Huh?” Masako frowned looking at him in surprise and Sho slipped the box in his pocket and folding his arms across his chest he smiled,
“All the guys wanted you to be their girlfriend but you were mine...I had to make them realise that...” he said “...I hated having to go and live with my mum cause I had to leave you...But I heard all about you from dad and I know you kept asking about me...I came this week because I was hoping to convince you that I still wanted to be yours...”
“Wha...” Masako stammered as Sho’s hand slipped down into his pocket again and this time pulled out a gold engagement ring that was shaped like a daisy chain. “Um...What...You...Me...?”
“Yeah...You...You are mine, just as much as I’m yours...We don’t have to get married yet...We can just get to know each other and you have to finish school and college but...” Masako didn’t even let him finish jumping and slamming her arms around him knocking the ring onto the beach and they spent a few minutes looking for it before Sho managed to slip it onto her finger where it rested snugly “...Your dad was right about your size...”
“Dad knows?” She whispered and Sho nodded pulling him against his chest again dropping kisses onto her head as he chuckled
“He threatened me...That if I hurt you he would kill me and would make sure that nobody could find the body...” He said and Masako blinked and then giggled nuzzling against his neck her eyes going to the ring happiness bubbling inside her.
“I can’t wait to tell Jun”
