Ohno moved through the mixed crowd of men pushing his thoughts away from Nino focusing on the on the battle that was going on around him. As he thought Saito’s men were still pinned in the caves all the exits were covered cutting away any chance of escape while also looking for a hint of Fuwa and her movements. He stalled in his movements looking at the face of the mountain thinking about his oldest friend praying that she was hanging on. There were a few muffled ‘My lords’ from his men and most of the men near him turned to stare giving polite bows of the head looking curious and a little relieved. For a man that went rarely into battle Sakurai could read the moods of the men better than some generals, Ohno thought replying to the men as he made his way to the half tent that housed both of the princes, Lord Yamashita and some of the generals.
“My lord Ohno...Nino...Is he...?” Miura asked softly his words dying on his throat as if terrified to say what he was thinking out loud. Ohno knew that feeling well for the past two days he had been living on his nerves; terrified that Nino wouldn’t wake his eyes again. His lover’s body was so bruised and broken that it had been impossible to believe that he would wake at all.
“He is awake...He spoke to me and now I have returned...” He answered his words blunt but loud so they would carry to the common soldiers that were nearby even though his eyes were fixed on the three men who all seemed to be frozen in place watching him in “The battle is not yet won, it would be a poor victory if Saito and his men were to get away now...”
“My lord Ohno...” Yamashita said taking a step towards him, Ohno saw the pinched worry in the younger lord’s face and he shook his head giving a wan smile that lifted the deep shadows in his eyes.
“I have seen that Kazunari is alive and now I will focus on the battle in hand...” He said surprised at how steady his voice was now. There was not even the hint of sorrow in his voice though he had cried through the night as he begged Nino to open his eyes and smile at him once more. “My friend is still within the cave walls...We do not know how damaged she is but judging from Kazunari’s injuries I would say that she would be severe...You said that you saw her in the caves?”
“Yes my lord, it was only thanks to her that we were able to get Nino out” Miura answered his face looking pinched and there was a pale green tinge to his skin that made him look ill. His mouth was a thin pal slit in his face showing none of the easy smiles that were there. To Ohno it looked like the prince had finally grown up and for some reason that disturbed him. “There was bruising on her face when we entered the cave, her right eye was damaged and her leg...I could not see damage through the armour that she was wearing but she was limping heavily, my lord, and when I tried to convince her to come she insisted that she would only slow me down...”
“Fuwa has always been my most loyal friend and companion...Even if it is just her body I will take her home to where she belongs” Ohno said gravely thinking about the woman that was waiting and praying for his friends return. Fuwa had obviously risked much to get Nino back to him he would not allow her to be lain with the pig that called her sister. The men watching nodded though he knew that they were only beginning to understand the loyalty that lay between him and Fuwa. He owed her as many life debts as she owed him but this was not about fulfilling them this was about getting her back so she and her partner would be honoured just as highly as he could make them. He suspected that his old friend had helped much in the softening of Nino’s attitude towards him in the earlier days and for that alone he would storm into the enemy pit to bring her out.
“Yes, my lord...” It was Miura that answered again his voice still a bleak monotone and Ohno suspected that he knew more than he had allowed himself to say until know.
“Princeling...” Ohno said as softly as he could, surprising them all by using the term of address that Nino used “If there is something on your mind you should speak...”
“It was Fuwa that closed the tunnel behind us with explosives...She lay them...With her injuries...I do not believe that she would have been able to get away in time...” The prince said softly and Ohno choked back a cry his eyes going to the mountain. He clenched his hand tightly breaking open a wound that had happened the day of their arrival. Looking down he watched the blood run over his fingers and then took a deep breath.
“My stance still remains and if her body is truly beneath the rubble then we shall dig her out...She will not lie in a traitor’s grave...” He growled spinning sharply on his heel he stalked away from the men heading back to the full tent that housed his lover just as Sakurai was leaving it.
“How is he?” Ohno asked pushing away the ache in his head that was just beginning to form behind his eyes. He knew that it was a mix of worry and lack of sleep but he would refuse to ask for a potion unless it became too painful knowing that if the men saw or heard about it they would lose confidence in him. His brother’s face was grim and just as pinched with worry as the princes had been but he pushed it away quickly and forced a smile onto his lips
“As well as can be expected, his injuries are more severe than I had first imagined and hoped, brother...But there is little more that I can do for him here without adding to the injuries...He should sleep for another couple of hours and then I will risk moving him back from the battle field to take him home...” He said and Ohno hummed to stop the rush of fear that was threatening to wash over him. Fear and panic would not help him now he needed to have a clear head. Nino was in no state to travel by horse so he would have to travel by the cart they had brought in the supplies by doing so he would not be able to be taken the shortest route over the mountain but would have to travel the tracks. Such a journey would be dangerous in itself. Rubbing his chin he looked at his men, there was a lull in the fighting now but they were not fully at ease prepared to once more fall into perfect stances, and he wondered if it was true that there were traitors among them or was that just bravado from Saito?
“You would have to travel the long route...” He mused allowed and Sakurai nodded
“Yes...I will travel with him...I am not as skilled as the other healers and I confess that I eager to see that Masaki is well...This would be hard for him...” he murmured lightly looking down at his hands as if he was ashamed to be asking for permission to leave. Ohno didn’t begrudge him the desire, he to was already sick of the battle but he would stay and he would make sure that Saito and his man got the punishments that they deserved.
“Yes...Kazunari will need you and after what he has endured I could not imagine him lightly allowing another man’s touch upon his skin...” The thought of what Saito had done to his lover other than the injuries was not a welcome one but Ohno knew that he couldn’t shy away from it. It would need to be addressed and worked through as Hotaru and Jun worked through theirs “You will take a guard with you...Including Yamashita...” He said pushed the images that were tormenting him away. The young lord might resent being sent away from the battle but at least then Ohno would knew that one skilled with a blade was loyal to him.
“Very well my brother...” Sakurai murmured bowing politely “I will arrange what I will need...As well as the others that are injured...”
“Thank-you...I will sit with him for a few minutes then...” The lord said opening the flap and stepping inside. As soon as the flap closed behind him he staggered as though weighed down by the weight of his armour. He dragged his body to the stool and sat reaching out and gripping Nino’s hand pressing his lips to it he choked down a sob. “After this...I will refuse any more fights or calls to arms...I will send men but I am too old to weary of this now...I just wish for peace with you and our family...”

A/N: Hmmm...Sappy ending, sorry...But Ohno was always a sensitive artist really it’s just his dad forced him to be the solider type ne...I hope that this is okay ^_^
