krystalkatzficz“Um…Welp, this is my home” Nino muttered weakly showing the alien into the tiny apartment. Jhun had been impressed from the outside, but Nino had quickly explained that his home was just one room.
“It reminds me of my quarters on my ship” Jhun smiled pleasantly and Nino rolled his eyes his cheeks a little flushed. It wasn’t the homeliest of homes, he had no decorations or personal touches, but it was his home and he felt strange at having a strange man inside it.
“Your spaceship must be pretty small then”
“Yes, it wasn’t one of the largest in the Araxi fleet. But it was brand new, its first time out and now it is just dust” The alien commander gave a sad expression moving over to the bed and sitting down and Nino felt a pang of sympathy before reminding himself that this was just a dream and everything would be back to normal in the morning. “It was my first command out of the academy”
“They gave a new ship to somebody fresh out of the academy. Is that normal?”
“No, but my mother pulled some strings” The alien gave a sheepish smile and Nino was positive that twin spots of colour appeared in his cheeks. “The council of nine said I was too young, I guess I proved them right”
“Hey! You were attacked right? By the bad guys, not your fault and you got your crew out right? Would they have landed around here?”
“I, wouldn’t think so, the pods have some movement capability but it is limited. They lock on to the nearest planet that can sustain life and send us there. With the speeds they were going they could be scattered all over. I will not be able to tell until I manage to fix my communicator. There is a homing signal in the Nanobots” Jhun rubbed his face slowly with his fingertips it was a strangely human gesture for an alien and Nino gave him a smile which he hoped was comforting but he had a feeling it was strained.
“We’ll find them!” He said enthusiastically and Jhun flashed him a smile of his own his eyes glittering in a strange way that sent heat to Nino’s lower half. Even in the ugly lights of his tiny apartment the alien was beautiful. It was as though he was designed to fulfil at least 9 out of 10 of Nino’s wildest fantasies. Knowing that he was staring he flushed brightly and then cleared his throat moving to the fridge that only had enough space for a single pint of milk and four eggs if he was lucky.
“Would you like a drink? I have coffee…But then again…It’s pretty late…” Nino winced as he looked at his watch and saw that it was quickly coming onto 4am. He hadn’t realised that he had been that long in the graveyard though they had done their best to cover up the hole in the ground by planting a rock that Jhun promised could pass for a meteorite and Nino decided to take his word for it. “Um…Tea? Do you drink tea being an alien…Do you even drink…And eat?”
“I consume drink and food. But I have never heard of either tea or coffee”
“Oh man! You are missing out! Coffee is basically the best thing ever! Though the stuff I have here is pretty much the devil’s piss” Nino wrinkled his nose looking at the pot of coffee he had left. It had been the cheapest in the store and he was trying to save as much as possible so he could move out of this dump. “So, you said you were a research party, right?”
“Yes. Our mission was to collect data and take samples”
“What for?”
“To see the development of Earth. Our two species have much in common though you are several thousands of years behind us. It is interesting to us. It shows what our ancestors would have been like”
“Sort of like how we think of the Romans and cavemen and stuff” Nino hummed nodding as he poured boiling water over two teabags. It made sense in a way, like living history. Most scientists would love the chance to be able to go back in time and see how the ancients did things.
“Exactly” Jhun nodded happily and Nino smiled adding milk to two cups thankful that his tea set had come with two though this was the first time he had ever used the second.
“Ok-ay…That kinda makes sense…But…What about the anal probing and…The cattle killing…”
“I…I apologise but you have confused me”
“Well, um people…They say that aliens…They take them up in their ships and…Um…Probe them…And slice open cattle”
“I can assure you that that is not something the Araxians do. Our main form of research is to observe and collect data. We do take samples from the earth but barring emergencies we don’t make contact and we don’t…Probe…” Jhun’s cheeks grew pink as he stumbled over the word his purple eyes on his hands.
“As far as I am aware abduction and cattle mutilation are part of the deal the leader of your planet made with the Draxel”

“What? Humans made a deal with the Draxel…The bad guys?”
“Yes. In the 40's the Draxel and Araxians had a battle. The Draxel ship fell to earth. People noticed. The Draxel met with the leader of your earth a Mr Truman and they made a deal” Jhun explained his face clouding over his mouth twisting in what could only be described as anger and Nino could sort of understand. His dream was entering strange new territory but the Draxel were the bad guys. “The Draxel would give you technology in return for allowing them to run experiments on you. Your leader agreed. The Draxel gave outdated technology and have been running experiments on you ever since”
“…Okay…Well…First off he is a douche…Secondly, we don’t have one leader of all Earth…Truman I guess that’s Harry S Truman…President of America…And you mean Roswell…That was real? Shit…Um…Here…Tea…” He said handing over the cup thankfully the alien seemed to understand that it was hot and didn’t burn himself. Either that or the nanobots were working. Thinking of the Nanobots made Nino look down at his hand and he was deeply surprised to see that there wasn’t even a mark where he had cut himself.
“Yes, my grandfather was aboard the ship that fought with the Draxel over Earth”
“You never thought about making a deal? With Earth? The Araxians?”
“No. Earth had proven itself to be dangerous. We felt that adding new technology to that would escalate matters. We want to prevent what happened to Araxi happening here. The Draxel just want another farming planet. The technology they gave is outdated but it has sped up your development unnaturally and has hastened the change in your climate. You say that you don’t have a singular leader for Earth so how was this man able to make a deal for you all?”
“I doubt he told any of our leaders” Nino shrugged swallowing as he watched Jun take a sip of the tea. He frowned for just a moment but then continued to drink saying.
“Yes, the Araxi leaders of old would have hoarded knowledge and technology. It is how we ended up almost wiping ourselves out. You are surprising to me, Nino. I really am hopeful that my crew met people like you and that they are safe” Jhun told him seriously and Nino wondered exactly how sad it was that he preened happily at the compliment from his dream man?
