“Hey, Kazunari, how are you feeling?” Sho asked as he came back into the hospital room. Kazunari fought back a stab of disappointment that the beta wasn’t with his uncle. He didn’t know why and he knew that he should be ashamed of being so selfish in wanting the man to stay with him but there was something about the beta that calmed him. Even when the doctor was doing all her tests he had made him keep his eyes on him instead of what was happening. “The doctor said that you were going to need some treatment…”
“I told her no! That the pain will be punishment for my sins!” Kazunari said quickly not wanting him to think he was trying to get out of his punishment. Sho let out a very light sigh pinching the bridge of his nose before settling into the chair Satoshi had sat in during his examination. The paramedic had moved it so his vision of what the doctor was doing was obscured and the chair had been left in the same position meaning his uncle was very close to his face and Kazunari could feel the panic climbing up inside of him at the strange alpha scent that was washing off the man. He knew logically that this was his uncle, but there was no familiarity with him, and all his omega could feel was alpha and he felt threatened, but he knew better than to pull back. How dare he be revolted by an alpha? He was the disgusting one after all.
“I know, she said, but…The thing is, I think that it will be better if you take the treatment”
“But how am I meant to pay for my sins?” Kazunari asked helplessly wondering if his uncle was going to heal him just to punish him again. He had to stop the punishments if he was going to bring the pup into the world.
“How would patriarch Shin normally make you pay?”
“He would make me kneel on stones in the centre square reading the bible out loud. Or he would give twenty lashes of the whip” Kneeling on the sharpened stones while the pack jeered had been painful but Kazunari gave a full body flinch at the thought of the whip. It had been a sturdy leather thing with nine thin arms. Four of which were tipped with metal that bruised him while the solely leather parts sliced at his skin. “I didn’t get punished often, but my wickedness would show through…”
“I…I see, in my pack I don’t punish people like that, Kazunari. I don’t like to see any member of my pack harmed in anyway…” Sho explained and Kazunari crooked his eyebrow in disbelief whispering
“Then how will they know they have displeased you, alpha?”
“Most of the time none of them displease me, and if they do I ask them why and if there is something we can do to work together to fix it. It was the way my father ran the Ninomiya pack. As I am to be your patriarch now, I would like to continue that with you, Kazunari. So, tell me why you think you deserve this punishment?”
“Because…I gave into the sin of my body! I seduced two men into…I laid with them, begged them…I am weak, just as Mother and Patriarch Shin told me…” Kazunari ranted knowing that this man wouldn’t see the crime he had committed. He was mated to an Omega of course he wouldn’t realise what his sin was. His fingers clawed at the pouch of omega fat around his stomach, the softness that told the world that he was an omega. No matter how much Patriarch Shin had tried to help by not allowing him to over feed it remained. It would grow now, stretch out as the pup inside him grew, announcing his shame to the world telling everyone that he was wicked and didn’t deserve a place in heaven with the angels.
“Angel, hey, come on…” A warm voice coaxed gently and Kazunari blinked looking up into the round face of the beta who was once again in front of him. His hands were gently taken from his stomach and held by gentle hands. A thumb, roughened ever so slightly, brushed over his knuckles and Kazunari breathed in the way the beta had told him before. Satoshi smiled his eyes sleepy but warm as he hummed “You’re working yourself into a fit again, Angel”
“Sorry…”
“Don’t be sorry, you’ve had a hard day. I know you want to keep the pain, that you think you need to but this is a hospital Angel, and no doctor is going to let you out of here until you’ve been treated” The beta told him in a quiet but firm tone. “You see, when we become doctors, nurses and paramedics, we have to take a vow. This vow means that no matter what and who is in front of us good or bad if we can treat them, we must. It’s a bit like a promise to god…”
“To god?” Kazunari whispered looking briefly from Satoshi to Sho and then back again. He didn’t know if he could believe him, but he didn’t think that the beta had a reason to lie to him.
“Yep, to god, I can tell you the vow if you like…” Satoshi suggested and Kazunari gave a nod dragging his tongue over his lips and the beta smiled before clearing his throat “I swear to god, to the best of my ability and judgement this covenant: I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow. I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures that are required. I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own weakness.
Above all, I must not play god. I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure. I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, be it Alpha, Beta, Gamma, or Omega, those of sound body as well as the infirm. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who need my aid”

“Its like a prayer…”
“It is a prayer, albeit a medical one, but one that we cannot break. If we can help, then we have to, or we break our oath to god” Satoshi said in a steady tone and Kazunari licked his lips again before nodding. How could he ask somebody to break a covenant with god? It was a sacred thing.
“God will understand?”
“Of course, he will” Sho said swiftly from his post at Satoshi’s shoulder and Kazunari gave a nod swallowing down a thick lump from the back of his throat. The Ninomiya pack didn’t have hospitals or doctors so nobody had ever known the oath.
“So, I can tell the doctor that you will be treated?” Satoshi asked and Kazunari nodded again his voice almost vanishing as he asked weakly
“…Will you be there?”
“I will, don’t worry, I will be with you the whole time. You just have to keep looking at me, I promise”
“…Okay, I will be treated”
“Thank-you, Angel”
