“So! When are we going to go see Tada and Ryo?” Kame asked from where he was delicately playing around with Masaki’s hair while the younger man was looking flushed and uncertain as to what exactly was going on. He had been overwhelmed to meet Kame and had been baffled when the second question out of the hairdressers mouth had been ‘Can I do your hair?’ but he had agreed and now he was sitting on the floor of the stage trapped between Kame’s legs having Kame plan styles before snipping away.


It was all very familiar, and Nino couldn’t help but smile his heart clenching at the sight. Having just Kame here made it all more real. “I know they’d go for it no questions asked. Ryo is looking for a reason to quit and Tada is only there because Ryo is”

“Ryo was always more Jun’s friend than mine”

“…Yeah, but that was before…You know…They had a huge fight. Ryo broke Jun’s nose, probably would have done more but Tada stepped in” Kame hummed and Nino blinked slowly his mouth falling open for what felt like forever unable to believe that the two friends would have had such a huge fight.

“Why?”

“Why? Because doofus, he is your friend as well and what Jun did was unfair” Kame hissed snipping Masaki’s hair with a pair of polished scissors. The clicking was the only sound for a few minutes and then Nino coughed and muttered

“…It wasn’t his fault. There were some things that…” Nino stopped as he looked at Masaki’s upturned face. His stomach dropped and he quickly shook his head from side to side not wanting Masaki to know what had happened. The boy was so frigging pure it was unbelievable. “So, you think they would give up their big city life to come back and perform shitty music again?”

“No, but they will come back to play our music, and it was never shitty”

“Yup! Your music was the best!” Masaki agreed with Kame happily and Nino rolled his eyes but was unable to fight the grin that was spreading over his lips. Kame did a few more twists and tweaks to Masaki’s hair before humming with satisfaction as it fell around his face in soft waves that some how managed to make him look both younger and more mature all at once.

“See. Listen to your fan! There you go, take a look” Kame handed a mirror to Masaki who gasped loudly in disbelief.

“Wow! This is amazing!”

“Thank-you, you have gorgeous hair, but what product do you use? You should only shampoo once every two weeks and condition in between. Too much shampooing will damage your hair also it makes your hair all fluffy” Kame wrinkled his nose and then stood up cracking out his back and stalking around the stage. “You know, it’s been ages since I’ve been here on this stage. I can’t wait till we’re all here!”

“Then I guess we should go to Ryo and Tada tomorrow. You come along as well Masa, we can look into getting your bass” Nino decided and although Masaki looked as though he wanted to protest Kame got in first looking excited as he gasped.

“Ooo! We can go to Sunset! It’s been ages since I’ve been there! I want to look at a new boost anyway. I should head home, I’m gonna have to explain to Ichika”

“Ichika? Yamashita Ichika? Pi’s younger sister?” Nino grinned remembering the girl that used to come to every show with her brother who acted as their personal photographer, making sure he only took side profiles and shadowy pictures except those that decorated Sho’s studio. She had been obsessed with Kame, but he had always said he wouldn’t date a fan. Kame must have remembered that as well as he flushed and then scowled, growling

“…Say anything…”

“She fancied you like anything! You said…”

“I know what I said, but she grew up…She is adorable, dunno how she’s gonna take this” Kame gestured to the stage, the instruments and Nino. He looked worried and Nino wondered if Ichika had grown out of Black Magic. It was hard to be fans of a band that hadn’t produced anything in over four years.

“Hopefully, she won’t be too disappointed”

“I’m not worried about her being disappointed, I’m worried she might have an aneurysm with excitement…” Kame grinned before rolling his eyes and Nino gave a chuckle relaxing. He didn’t want to cause problems between Kame and his girlfriend. “I’ll see you later, Masa, keep practicing what I showed you yeah?”

“Meet us here in the morning, I’ll drive”

“Sure…Come here!” Kame grabbed him and hugged him tightly his nose and mouth pressing into his neck. “I’m so happy to see you again, don’t you dare vanish on me again”

“Not planning on it”

“Yeah, don’t” Kame growled seriously and Nino sighed hugging him back just as tightly his eyes feeling suspiciously itchy but if there was one thing he was not going to do in front of Masaki and that was cry. He had been an idiot; he had thought the band was only his friends because of Jun but at least for Kame that wasn’t true. “I’ll see you tomorrow, right here, bright and early…”

“Yup, see you then, Kame, about 8?” Kame nodded squeezing his shoulder before saluting Masaki and heading out of the club. Nino sighed as he watched him leave and then looked down at the stage running his finger over the grain in the wood and the peeling paintwork.

“He is nice”

“He is, he’s always been high energy, though he seems more…At peace with himself now” Nino hummed remembering how much Kame had struggled when he had been at school. He had had an eating disorder making him look like somebody had put clothes on a dummy. His face had been so hallowed out it was as though his skin was just stretched over his skull. Nino had had his own problems back then and had been forced to go to a councillor Kame had had the appointment before his and they would talk about music in the few minutes between their sessions. They had discovered that they had a lot in common beyond their similar names and they had agreed to meet up and start Black Magic with Jun. Ryo and Tada coming soon afterwards. “I guess…Um…Sorry, I have to talk to the old man before the club starts getting too crowded. Practice what Kame told you okay?”

“Yeah, sure…” Masaki nodded looking a little confused, but he obediently picked up the borrowed bass and Nino nodded heading over to Satoshi who was setting up the bar.

“Old man, I need…I need to talk to you…Please…”

“Sure, Sunshine, what’s wrong?”

Lol! Kame has his hands all in Masaki's hair giving him a style for the stage. I bet Nino is going to go ask Ohno to go with him. He is his shoulder to lean on. He needs a steady presence there during this stressful visit. Maybe the group in their new regrouping won't be as angry in music? They have all grown up and matured in their lives. Even Nino sounds like his music might have changed some. Maybe I'm wrong?
