Sho sighed tiredly as he shut down his computer for the night. It was only five and he normally didn’t finish till much later so he could understand the looks that he got as he headed out of his shiny corner office and out into the main staff area where the paralegals were sitting.
“Sakurai-sensei? You’re leaving for the night?” One of them, a youngish woman not fully out of university asked in surprise. She was always fussing around after him wearing increasingly shorter skirts and tighter tops and he knew that she had a mild, or not so mild crush on him, she was pretty enough. Not as beautiful as Masaki but enough that if he was continuing to deny his true nature he would have gone along with it but now he wasn’t going to let that happen. He quickly gave her a nod not having time for conversation. He had to get home, change, and then get to the cafe for six.
“Yes, good night” He smiled taking his coat and heading for the exit without another word leaving her with a confused and disappointed expression on her face. He spied his boss next but he ducked out of his eye line and made it to the stairs that would take him out of the building. He ran down them almost two at a time while trying to remain composed. He couldn’t deny that he was as excited as he was terrified. His tongue scraped ever so slightly over his lips. He had never dated a man before, he had desire for them but beyond a few pornos he had never given into it before seeing Masaki.
He had brought his car today and he was glad that he didn’t have to wait around for a taxi. The security guard on the gate looked him over for a moment and then jerked his head in greeting. He headed to his parking space glad that it was only a few feet away. He was the first one out of the carpark and while he drove he played his music. Most would be surprised by the music that he played, mostly western rap, but he always enjoyed it as it allowed him to stop thinking and just listen for a while.
He eventually reached his apartment block causing the porter on the door to do a double take as he came through the glass double doors.
“Good evening sir, it is rare to see you at this hour” The man said opening the door for him before summoning the elevator.
“Sometimes early nights can be beneficial, though I will be leaving again soon” Sho hummed. He tended to loath small talk but it was rude to stand in silence as they waited for the elevator. The worn face looked surprised once again before cracking a smile that caused deep lines to form around his eyes and mouth.
“A date sir?”
“Yes” Sho answered as the elevator dinged and the doors slid open. The bellman inside smiled and bowed as he entered but thankfully he didn’t ask any questions as he pressed for his floor. Soft classical music played as they moved floors and he was extremely glad when he was able to get out and head to his apartment. The door opened easily as he stepped inside greeted by a mess of clothes and shoes that he had thrown at the door the morning before. He had always been a contrast in his outward and inward persona. He had never been tidy, his apartment was filled with books, newspapers, and takeout boxes. He had a maid that came by once every two weeks but he really didn’t take care of it in between. The apartment was large, with white and cold grey furnishings. The only splashes of colour were paintings that he had decorated his walls with.
All were landscapes painted by the same artist, they were realistic but all had a hint of fantasy about them. His favourite was the ruins of a castle beside an ocean at sunset. A seal was on the banks of the ocean but it was painted in a way that it could have been a mermaid if you looked at it for long enough. Seal or Mermaid it was beautiful and he often found himself gazing at the painting wondering if it had come from life or if it was all from the artists head. Remembering that he had to hurry and dress if he wanted to get to the cafe on time he pulled his gaze away from the painting and headed to his shower stripping out of his work suit as he did so. He left them where they fell knowing that he would wear a completely different suit tomorrow.
The shower had been a huge selling point for him when he had looked for an apartment. It was huge with several shower heads all down the walls giving him a full body clean. The temperature could be manually set and controlled meaning it was never too hot or too cold. He slipped inside and sighed happily as he took some soap and washed down his body. As he scrubbed himself he thought about how breathlessly excited Masaki had been over the phone and he wished that he had been there to witness it in person. Making sure to try and get that reaction again tonight he left the shower and wrapped a towel around his toned body.
His fitness regime was something he kept up no matter how busy he was and he was rather proud of his body. He wasn’t as muscular as some men but given his age at nearly forty he wasn’t flabby either. His other reasons for going to the gym weren’t quite so noble but he hadn’t been caught looking and he didn’t think he would need to now. Drying his hair he looked through his clothes turning his nose up at the suits that lay out before him varying shades of grey and black merging together. They were expensive tailor made but they were nothing but a uniform to him forced on him by his parents just as he repressed lifestyle was.
The thought of his parents finding out about his tastes, even now, was enough to turn his stomach but he was determined to carry on with it refusing to give up Masaki now he had the courage to date somebody of the same gender. He pulled out a pair of fitted trousers and a cashmere jumper. The jumper was a crimson shade of red that he would never have bought for himself but one of the older paralegals had brought it as a gift on his birthday the year before now he was happy he hadn’t thrown it out. Dressing quickly but carefully he looked down at his phone as it buzzed telling him he had a message from Masaki.
“Sho-chan, formal or casual?! I forgot to ask!!” Even with the written word Sho could hear the excited panic in the words and he gave a smile texting back;
“We’re going to the Luna Hotel for dinner, so semi-formal?”
There was no response for a while and then the phone buzzed again this time with a picture message. He clicked it open and was amused to see clothes. A green shirt with grey trousers. There was no tie but there was a woollen vest with swirling patterns over the front.
“Perfect” He answered “See you soon”
“Yup! See you soon!” Masaki replied adding a million and one emoji’s and Sho chuckled to himself fixing his hair and adding his watch.
The drive to the cafe was uneventful and he was genuinely surprised to see somebody else there when he stepped inside. A couple, a man and a woman, were sitting at the counter chatting happily to Jun the owner. Or the woman was as she kept pushing her long strands of hair away from her face. The man was simultaneously looking at he coffee he was nursing and the woman who was talking. Jun saw him first, there was a grin on his face as he listened to the woman which died as he looked up and saw him. His expression shut down and his eyes narrowed as his hands came to fold over his chest. The woman of the couple noticed and then spun around on the stool her sharp eyes moving up and down over his body before she smirked.
“So this is him?” She said her voice slightly deeper than Sho was expecting. “Hmm...You’re good looking, Masaki likes them good looking. Sorry, I’m Ninomiya Kazunari, sort of Masaki’s brother”
“Brother?” Sho gasped his eyes widening as he looked the woman over again noticing for the first time that she had a male figure and even an Adam’s apple in her throat. His mouth dropped open as he moved down to her chest noting that it was completely flat under the thick jumper she...He was wearing.
“Yes, his brother...Nice to meet you” Ninomiya’s face didn’t change at his dumbstruck reaction but Jun’s and the man beside him did. Jun was more noticeable his eyes narrowing as a muscle pulsed in his jaw but the small way in which the man at Ninomiya’s side was more threatening.
“I...Yeah, and you...Wow...I’m sorry, I’m Sakurai Sho, I’m in your care”
“Hmmm” Ninomiya said before bursting out into a laugh “Sorry! Honestly, we’re not here to give you a bad time! My apartment burnt down and Jun and Masaki were helping me clean it. Jun-nii invited us for dinner!”
“I’m sorry to hear about your apartment”
“Me too, but what can you do? Nobody was hurt so we should be thankful for that” Ninomiya said getting up from the stool and walking over to him. His heels made a clicking on the tiles and Sho was sure there was a gentle sway to his hips as he moved. His hand came out from long sleeves and Sho saw that his hands were small chunky but his nails were cute and well taken care of. He reached out and took it half expecting the man to have hidden strength but he didn’t. His hand was gentle in his own, soft and smooth and he shook it gently. “Masaki has talked about you a lot, hopefully you will have lots of fun”
“Yeah, I hope so”
“Me too, Masaki is my best friend and I really want him to be happy” The words were said with a friendly smile but Sho had a very real feeling that of the three men who were staring at him this was the one that was the biggest threat.
“I hope he will”
“Sho-chan! Sorry! Am I late!” The man in question said flying into the room from the door at the back of the cafe and they all turned to look at him Sho positively beaming as he saw him in the outfit he had sent a photo of. “Nino! You said you would be nice!”
“I am being nice! I’m a nice person!”
“You’re a brat! Sorry about him Sho-chan!” Masaki said bobbing an apology while still smiling as though he was the sun itself. “Shall we go?”
“Yeah...”
