Ninomiya Kazumi flicked through her phone while casting side glances at the tall woman next to her. Sakurai Shizuya. She knew the woman in passing, she had moved to the penthouse two years before and although they had never had reason to talk properly Nino knew quite a lot about her. She had google after all and it wasn’t as though Shizuya was unknown. She was the CEO of one of the largest companies in Japan and was incredibly beautiful as well and had graced the front cover of quite a few business magazines. Nino knew some things that google didn’t.
She knew that Shizuya was a lesbian and that she would often bring women back to her apartment. They only came in the dead of night though and Nino suspected that they were working girls paid to be discreet. Nino wasn’t quite sure of what her own sexuality was, for a long time she had suspected that she didn’t have one, but she did feel a certain spark whenever Shizuya looked at her while pretending that she wasn’t. Her mother would be horrified. She had always wanted a little princess that she could dress in fluffy pink dresses and go for spa days, instead she had had Nino.

“Kazumi, are you listening to me?” The woman huffed as they left the elevator and Nino felt herself roll her eyes. She rarely listened to her mother these days because she only seemed to talk to her when she was whining about something.
“No”
“I was saying that you should go to that, playing as many games as you do isn’t healthy” The older woman said motioning to the poster that Madori had been talking about. Nino was going to refuse almost immediately but then she saw Shizuya studying the poster. “It might do you some good get out and meet some people...”
“Will it stop you whining at me?” Nino asked her eyes focused on Shizuya wondering if the woman would join the book club, maybe if she did then she would have a reason to talk to her.
“I do not whine at you, you are almost 19 and you spend all of your life sat in your bedroom playing games” Kazuko said sharply and Nino rolled her eyes. She didn’t spend all her life in her bedroom but she knew that her mother liked to forget that she played baseball and rode go-carts. Mostly because that was things that her father encouraged her in and anything her Daddy liked her mother hated. Nino wished that she could have moved with her Daddy when her parents had divorced. Her daddy loved her just for being her while her mother had only wanted her to spite him. “Though if that Madori is running it I wonder if it will be the sort of thing that...”
“I shouldn’t worry, I saw Sakurai-san looking at the poster, surely you can’t think that Sakurai-san would be a bad influence?” Nino said almost sweetly flashing her mother a smile and Kazuko’s mouth immediately snapped closed. It was clear her mother didn’t know about Shizuya’s sexuality as her mother thought the woman was everything that a woman should be. Even her dislike of Aiba Madori, somebody that Nino actually found rather fun, wouldn’t stop her from doing anything that Shizuya was doing.
“Well, Sakurai-san, is a sensible woman, you could learn a lot from her...” Kazuko hummed with a nod and Nino’s mind was filled of the sight she had seen only a few weeks ago. Shizuya pressing another woman up against the door of her apartment ravishing her mouth as she fumbled with the lock. Nino hadn’t been spying, not really, it was just that Shiyua’s apartment was directly across from the fire escape from the roof and she had been coming down from smoking and seen them. Her dreams had been full that night “And I’m sure she will control Aiba, honestly what is the girl thinking having those two beasts in her apartment”
“Mushu and Mulan are sweet dogs” Nino muttered with a shrug knowing that it didn’t matter. Everything about Aiba Madori was something her mother hated Nino wasn’t sure why it wasn’t like Madori was anything but nice. “And she trains them well”
“What have I told you about spending time with that harlot?”
“Madori isn’t a harlot or a whore, or even a hostess...” Nino sighed but her mother’s phone had gone off and she was no longer listening to her. Nino couldn’t confess to being great friends with Madori but it was impossible not to talk to her when they were caught in the elevator together and she liked the way she almost always said what was on her mind. Nino trailed after her mother until they finally reached the meeting spot where she met her father. She didn’t know why her mother insisted on coming every single time as though she were a child but she suspected that it was so she could moan at him about something or nothing.
“Nino-chan!” Her daddy called happily jumping up and down and waving his hands in her direction and Nino let out a happy shout and ran over to him.
“Daddy!” She said happily throwing her arms around his neck. “How was your trip? You went to London right?”
“Yup! I got you a gift” The man said happily holding out a paper bag that had ‘A gift from London’ written across it. Nino opened it quickly and almost squealed with delight as she pulled out a pot nodding head dog dressed like one of the soldiers that guarded the palace.
“He’s so cute! Thank-you!” She said pressing him on the nose and causing his head to wobble. A tongue clicked disapprovingly and Nino turned to see Kazuko standing with her arms folded in a way that pushed up her chest. Her head was tilted ever so slightly to one side as she said in a chipped tone;
“Why is it you still like to treat my daughter like she is a child? She is a young woman”
“It’s a pot dog, and Nino-chan likes it” Her father hummed back with a placid smile on his face and Nino gave a nod putting the dog back in the bag. “And Nino-chan is also my daughter”
“A daughter you loved so much that you walked out on her”
“If I remember correctly I wanted to take her with me but you fought me in the courts...”
“And they decided that I was the better parent” Kazuko smirked at that for the first time in her life Nino actually felt the urge to punch the woman that was her mother. She didn’t but the urge was strong. Her father was never going to win that case, he was a man after all and in cases like that it was always stacked in favour of the woman.
“Hey, Daddy, come on, tell me about your trip” Nino said tucking her arm around her father’s and leading him away without even saying goodbye to her mother.
“It wasn’t very interesting I’m afraid, it was just meeting after meeting...Are you really too old for the dog? I do forget that you’re not my little girl” He hummed almost sadly and Nino shook her head quickly flashing him a grin as she said;
“Nope! I love it! She just wanted you to get me some stupid jewellery or something so she could take it” The man gave a nod running his fingers through his salt and pepper hair his face relaxing “Oh! Yeah! She is trying to get me to go to a book club”
“A book club? I can’t imagine you doing that” He laughed and Nino once again thought about Shizuyo and hummed;
“I’m actually thinking about it, you never know Madori will be there so it might be fun”
“I see, shall we go to the baseball court, get your arm ready for the game?”
“Yes!”
