Satoshi kept an eye on Nino as they went for lunch. Nino had chosen to sit with Masaki and the baseball team and Satoshi couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy as he watched Nino smiling and laughing with somebody that wasn’t him. He hated being so possessive but he couldn’t be blamed when his lover was such a beautiful person. He had had the letter taken out that morning and it should have been delivered to the family already. He didn’t know if they would read it and he couldn’t force them but he hoped that they would. Although Nino said he didn’t deserve healing Satoshi knew that he needed it. The accident was tragic but it was just that, an accident and not worth losing an entire life over.
The doors of the cafeteria opened and Satoshi pulled his eyes away from his lover, instantly on the alert. Around twenty new prisoners were marched into the space and Satoshi recognised every single one of them. He had worked closely with them all at some point and they had all decided to betray him, to think that he was weak because they were too stupid to understand the long game he was playing. Every single one of them looked no less menacing in their prison issue uniform. All looked like man mountains covered head to toe with tattoos. In Satoshi’s opinion they looked like stereotyped criminals from movies and Satoshi knew they thought they had to look that way to be taken seriously. They had hated listening to him and would have hated listening to his cousin even less.
They noticed him quickly and Satoshi smiled in recognition causing them all to realise that he was the reason that they were here. Instantly their faces shut down but they weren’t very good at it and Satoshi could easily see a few muscles pulsating in their faces. Normally prisoners like this would be kept separate in the hopes that they wouldn’t be able to work together but Satoshi had wanted them all together and that was what he had gotten. He wasn’t sure how they were going to play it, he hoped that they weren’t too stupid to realise he knew what had been happening on the outside but given that dogs were brighter than this bunch it was entirely possible that they didn’t.

Shadows fell over him and smiled with feigned politeness. His meal, a medium rare steak half eaten covered with a peppery mustard sauce seemed to take them by surprise but Satoshi wiped his mouth calmly on a napkin and sipped at his water. He had purposely gone for the most ostentatious meal he could think of making sure that they knew that even in prison he was every bit as powerful as he had been on the outside.
“May I help you with anything, gentleman?” He asked aware that not only was the entire prisoner population looking at him so was the guards, Sho in particular. His former associates stared at each other in bafflement seemingly unable to understand how he could be so calm and then he sighed picking up his knife and fork and cutting off a chunk of his meat. “If there is nothing, I bid you good day...”
“You bastard” The one Satoshi had always thought of as the least intelligent growled coming forward swiftly his huge fist in a tight ball. Satoshi dodged the attack swiftly, there was no skill in the action just brute strength like a child having a tantrum and he knew that it looked rather...Cool when he dodged it. He didn’t do anything more, he didn’t have to when six of the eight guards on duty rushed forward managing to get him on the floor with their knees on his back as they put him in restraints. Satoshi ignored the activity and calmly continued eating. Although it seemed as though he was doing nothing he was gauging how they were going to handle this and it seemed that tensions were high. A few of the more level headed ones might try and make peace with him but that wasn’t going to happen. They had threatened his cousin after all, his family, and nobody did that.
The mass of men moved away from his table without another word being uttered and Satoshi wasn’t surprised when Sho came bustling over hissing quietly;
“Seriously, whatever game you are playing you better stop it before you get hurt”
“Aww, I honestly didn’t realise you cared, Guard Sakurai, but I honestly have no idea...” Satoshi’s smile didn’t waiver not even when the guard spat out;
“Masaki told me!”
“He did? I see, can’t say I’m surprised” Satoshi hummed with a shrug chewing on more of his steak. He had told Masaki only some of his plan, it was only fair after all. There was a very real chance that they would go after Nino and if Masaki was near his cellmate and friend there was a real chance that he might get hurt looking after him and Satoshi didn’t want that on his mind. He genuinely liked Masaki and he was worried what the guard would do if something happened to his Masaki. He didn’t want to be responsible for that. “He has always had good judgement. You are the best guard in this place. You didn’t stop them from being placed here...”
“I am just a guard, it is not my place to question” Sho said slowly in a tense way that suggested that it was something he had been told. Satoshi smiled and then nodded saying with a hum;
“I see, not for a lack of trying. Very well...How about I tell you the truth, privately?”
“You could have done that last week when I questioned you at the baseball game”
“No, you are right I could have, but I didn’t want you to be involved. I am not lying when I praise you as being the best of the guards in this establishment. I admire you more than you could ever possibly know and I would not want to ruin even a hint of your reputation but...I think that you and I will be able to help each other more then either of us could know...”
“I will never help you”
“Not even to save Masaki? The men that have just arrived will go after what I hold dear and in this place that is Nino. You were correct when you said that, but who is almost always at Nino’s side?” Satoshi asked looking over at the pair on the other table. Sho followed his gaze and then growled his fist slamming against the table so hard that the silverware and plate rattled.
“I hate you so much more than you could possibly know”
“I know, and I am truly sorry, but allow me to explain a few things and perhaps you will see that this isn’t the worst thing that could happen...”
TBC
A/N: Getting Sho to help was easier in the other version cause Satoshi really didn’t know anything and he saw that >.< I hope it was okay...It was on a Sunday ;)
