Hybrid part 11

Nino’s mouth dropped open as he looked up at the huge gate that was in front of him. The wall was huge, towering above him. The bricks were white, and the wood was polished black with gold handles and hinges. He didn’t even realise that there was a smaller door which Jun opened before guiding him inside. If the fennec was impressed by the gate he was even more impressed by what lay inside. It wasn’t just one building but multiple all traditional Japanese styles with verandas around the outside. There was a river in the centre of it with the cute humped bridges. Birds were singing somewhere in the hundred trees that were all around them. He could hear children laughing and playing somewhere in the river and Nino found himself thinking that it was a separate village in the middle of a town.

“My home is this way” Jun told him his thumb moving over the back of his hand. Jun flashed him a smile and then led him down a pretty cobble path and over one of three of the bridges until leading him to what was probably the largest of the houses near him. They had almost made it to the house steps when two grey blurs darted passed him and then leapt at Jun. The wolf let go of his hand and fell on the floor as twin wolf pups jumped up and down on top of him. “You little terrors! Get off me…” Nino laughed at the wolf-hybrid who looked positively delighted with the attention of the two pups. His face was completely different from the way it had been at school, relaxed and carefree. The pups transformed and Nino realised that they really were identical twins. Their hair was mousy brown with flicks of ginger and grey running through it. Their faces were split into two dimpled grins.

“Welcome home, Jun-nii-chan!” They spoke together their voices slightly high pitched but almost melodic. Jun chuckled and then sat up holding the twins close.

“I’m home, you trouble makers” Jun said standing up and keeping the boys close to his side. “I want you to meet a friend of mine from school. Nino, come meet my twin cousins. The one on the right is Anri and the one on the left is Shion. You two have to be on your bestest behaviour okay? Nino-chan, can’t talk so he has to write. You can show him how well you can read. Okay?”

“Okay! It is our pleasures to meeting you, Nino-nii-chan!” Anri and Shion said together jumping down and bobbing up and down so fast Nino was positive that they were going to get sea sick. Neither of them seemed to care that they were naked and Nino supposed they hadn’t gotten to that stage in their age yet. “Are you an angel? You is pretty like an angel ne! Are you Jun-Nii’s girl friend? You smells like him!”

“Anri, Shion...That’s enough...” Jun growled flushing as he touched the tops of the two wolf-pup’s heads. It was a gentle touch but enough to cause them to look up at him as Nino started writing.

“Nice to meet you both. You are very cute! I’m not an angel...I’m a fox!”

“Eh!? A foxen? They is like us wolves right? But smaller! Can we see? I bet you is real cute!”

“Anri, Shion! Come along, dinner time now...” A warm motherly voice called and Nino looked up and saw a beautiful woman wearing a blue and yellow summer dress. Her feet were bare and her hair was long but tied into a pony tail draped over her shoulder. Her ears were almost white and her eyes were a very light shade of blue.

“My aunty Ari...She is only half wolf...” Jun whispered as the terrible two ran over to their mother grabbing her hands and dragging her over to them.

“Mummy! Come see! Jun-nii-chan has a pretty friend! He is almost as pretty as you mummy! He is a fox! Come see!”

“I can see very well, children” Ari laughed her voice somehow managing to sound like the feeling you got when you went outside after a heavy rain. The moment just as the sun was finally breaking through the clouds and everything was shining. “I am very pleased to meet you, Jun’s pretty friend...”

“Aunt, this is my classmate, Ohno-Ninomiya Kazunari...Nino...Nino this is my aunt, Matsumoto Ari” Jun said as the twins told her that he couldn’t speak. She looked a little surprised for a moment but watched with interest as he wrote.

“Hello, I am pleased to meet you”

“Likewise. Jun doesn’t normally bring friends home, I hope that we will get to know each other warmly” She told him and Nino gave a nod feeling nervous under the stare he was getting from the blue eyes. They didn’t seem real. Like a painting of wolf eyes. They weren’t unfriendly, in fact they were the friendliest eyes he had ever seen but there was something unnerving about them. “I will take the two inside. It was lovely to meet you, Nino-kun...” Nino nodded and bobbed again before she smiled and walked away trailing the adorable looking twins after her.

“Sorry, I should have said...My entire pack lives together in...Well a pack. I guess it’s another reason why people find us strange...”

“I think it’s amazing...Your home is amazing” Nino wrote quickly and Jun smiled still looking a little apprehensive “My family was always very small. We are the last in Japan...”

*Jun PoV*

“I didn’t think that fox hybrids were that rare...” Jun hummed with a small frown. He hadn’t really learnt about them but he was positive that he had seen a couple more foxes around. They were mostly more rural though not really liking the cities and they weren’t really pack animals.

“I’m a fennec hybrid...My brother and I are the last two Japanese ones left...” Nino wrote worrying at his lip and something dull and familiar nudged in his head. He could remember somebody or something saying that about a month or so ago. It had been noticed that several species of hybrids didn’t live as long as others. Not enough that it was suspicious on average a wolf lived to the ripe old age of 89 while others seemed to only get to 78.

Doctors and scientists had been trying to find out what it was, if something was making them more at risk of illness or heart problems. Fennec had been on the list along with deer and lynx. A few people believed that it was the governments of the worlds trying to control specific species of hybrid but almost everyone else thought it was just natural but they had noticed that those that lived less tended to not have as many children and seemed to have a greater chance of having fertility issues. “But I guess I don’t count as I’m not really a fennec...”

“I think you’re still fennec, you’re just something else as well” Jun smiled taking Nino’s hand again and tugging him towards the house they had been heading in until the terrible two had come towards them. “Like me...I’m an alpha but I’m still a wolf...A kitsune is still a fox, ne, just a really pretty one with multiple tails...Come on, I want you to meet my mum! She will love you!”

Finally Nino told Jun he is a fennec. So sad he and Satoshi are the last one in Japan.

Somehow XD Telling us through Nino that fennecs are not only rare but also don't live as long, or don't get children that easily, and it's possible that the governments are doing something to them makes me not only worry for Nino but for Ohno as well. As Nino is protected by Ohno and still so young. Ohno is probably not dumb or blind to such things so he has to worry a lot about his little brother. More so since he is special.
So I hope that the Matsumoto's will take them both in (and that Ohno will get a pretty boyfriend/girlfriend there as well XD)
