“Wow” Sho muttered in a whisper to his fiancé while Jun and Nino were celebrating a rather convincing strike. Sho had never even had the inkling of being gay but he had to admit that Nino’s date was a very attractive man. He looked like a romance drama character and seemed to be completely interested in Nino who was just as interested though a lot shier about it. Masako gave a giggle her eyes dancing with more joy then they had held earlier and Sho was extremely glad that he had convinced her to come. He had been right about time with Nino lightening her spirits it was clearly just what she had needed. “Who would believe that there are good looking gamers”
“Nino’s a gamer and he’s cute...”
“I suppose if you like bratty nymphs...” Sho muttered looking at Nino who was laughing about something Jun had said while the older man was smoothing out his hair with his fingers. They looked comfortable around each other, at least more so than when they had arrived and started playing and Sho was glad of that. “So, are you in college?”
“Medical school” Jun answered his arm slipping around Nino’s shoulders drawing him up against him when it looked like some girls around Nino’s age were checking him out. Jun glared at them until they got the point and then laughed when Nino pinched him in the side.
“Going into the family business?” Masako asked picking up her bowling ball and going to the mouth of the lane. Sho watched her feeling extremely bad that he was bringing her down. She would be getting a far better score without him playing but Masako didn’t seem to mind.
“Sort of, my grandma was a midwife and that’s what I’m training to be...” Jun answered and Sho very nearly let out a squeak which he covered by swallowing down some of the water he had brought. Masako on the other hand looked completely confused as she repeated with a frown;
“A midwife?”
“Yeah...I know it’s strange for a guy to do it but I’ve always wanted to...” Jun shrugged clearly not knowing that Masako didn’t know what he meant. The man was clearly used to people judging him for his choice of work but Masako just smiled apologetically and then mumbled;
“What is it?”
“A midwife is...A nurse that is specially trained to work with pregnant women and help deliver babies into the world” Jun explained and now the answer had been laid out Masako dropped the bowling ball in shock. Amazingly she missed any of her toes but her face lost all of the cheer it had had a second ago. Sho got up from his chair and head over to her making sure she was alright and then turning to Nino as he sucked in a breath. Of course, of course Nino would have worked it out just from that. The small man’s eyes were narrowed into cat like slits and his mouth was drawn into nothing but a line across his face. He looked slowly from one face to the other and Sho was positive that he felt a chill as they settled on him and he growled like an angry feral cat.
“What the fuck...” He spat getting up from the long bench and stalking over to them. His eyes settled onto Masako who was already starting to cry and shake. “Bloody hell...Well...Thank god”
“Eh?”
“You’ve been so sick lately...I thought your lungs were going again or there was something else...” Nino breathed reaching out and wrapping his friend into a tight hug and Masako’s tears grew even louder. “Okay, calm down...It’s not the end of the world...It’s a baby...You’ve wanted a baby since you were a baby yourself...”
“I’m an idiot...” Masako sobbed saying some of the things she had said to him earlier but unlike him Nino seemed to be better equipped at handling it all. He made soothing noises from the back of his throat and ran his hand in slow and steady circles on her back. People all around them were giving them looks and Sho was almost positive that a few were wondering if they should phone the police. Nino didn’t seem to notice however as he purred out gently;
“Yup, too right you are, but you’re gonna be an amazing Mama, Masa. I mean come on...You’re basically a kid yourself. Any baby would be lucky to have you as a Mama...”
“But...I’m not ready...I’m...Gonna be useless...”
“As if, you are gonna be perfect. Have you told auntie and uncle yet?” Nino asked in a soothing tone, something that Sho hadn’t managed to do earlier. Jun was looking a little baffled but was smiling from his position on the bench and Sho decided that he must really like Nino to put up with all of this on a first date.
“No...I was going to but...You rang...And...I’m sorry”
“You don’t have to apologise to me, Masa, and you don’t have to get so worked up about it. What the hell were you thinking?”
“I thought you were gonna kill Sho-chan and then I would be a single parent” Masako answered in a slightly calmer voice. She still sounded watery from where she was crying but overall she looked a little more confident. Sho felt his heart plummet as Nino turned to look at him again and his face stiffened into a bland smile that was probably the same expression the devil had before tempting Eve to eat the apple. It was deadly.
“Hurt, yes, kill, no...”
“You can’t hurt him, Nino! It’s not all his fault. It takes two...” Masako mumbled slowly and Nino shrugged and hummed softly;
“That may be true but I would never hit you in my life Sho on the other hand...I promise though that I won’t do it now. It’s no fun when he is expecting it. But for now I think we should end the game and go sit down. You can tell me everything...Um...Sorry, Jun, I had a great time...”
“Me too, but you’re not saying goodbye yet...I’ve finally gotten to meet you, I’m not letting this end yet”
“But Masa...” Nino gestured to Masako obviously worried that she wouldn’t be comfortable talking about the whole situation with him but after looking at him Masako shrugged.
“It’s fine...He...He might be helpful. I don’t know what to do...I...” Masako flushed and then moved to come stand by Sho taking his hand tightly their fingers linking. Sho gave a little helpless smile and brushed his fingers through his hair. Nino looked at them for a moment and then looked at Jun.
“If you’re sure...”
“I am...Completely...You go find a table I will handle this and get you some drinks, and stuff. If I can help I will be happy to...”
