Five years previously...

Ninomiya Kazunari woke up slowly his body uncurling from the almost tight circle that he had been sleeping in. It had been four days since he had been sacrificed and Jun...The dragon, had brought him here and he still couldn’t believe it. He had been waking up every day waiting for the other shoe dropped and Jun killed him. Sitting up in the bed that was as large as his whole home had been in the village. It was stupidly huge and most of the time he was curled up in one corner trying to make himself and the bed as small as possible. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes with his fingertips rubbing the grit away from his lids. The movement seemed to cause an echo to run around the room and Nino frowned wondering if there were any smaller rooms in the castle that he was living in. He got up and headed over to the far side of the room where there was a bath that seemed to be hot every morning.

He stripped out of the clothes that had been provided with and stepped into the warm water. He didn’t know if Jun expected him to bathe every day but he happened to like it. He had almost never had the luxury of his own bath and now he enjoyed soaking in it and taking off the grime of the night. He dipped his head under the water washing his hair for a moment before letting out a long breath and then lay on his back floating on his back his hands moving at his side. He probably didn’t enjoy it as much as he would if he knew what was going to happen with the dragon but there was no way he could deny that it was a special luxury.

Once he had finished washing himself with the perfumed soap he got up out of the bath and wrapped himself in a warm soft towel. Once it was secure he padded over to the closet that was filled with clothes that Jun had told him were his. They were all finer than the chief of the village owned but not a single one of them were garish and all of them were so soft that they seemed to have been made of silk. He pulled on a cream coloured pair of breeches and a open necked tunic top. Jun hadn’t provided him with shoes but there were slippers and Nino put them on before heading out into the hall.

There were a few other people in the castle. None of them even so much as looked at him as he headed down the hall his slipper covered feet and Nino did his best to ignore them in his turn. It was difficult but Nino was very adapt at ignoring people he didn’t want to see. Jun wasn’t in the great hall when he arrived, nor was he in the huge castle kitchen and Nino bit hard on his lower lip before slipping out of the open door and into the castle garden. Jun hadn’t really told him he wasn’t allowed out of the castle, in fact the dragon didn’t seem to care if he went or stayed but Nino didn’t trust him, at least not yet. He was attractive though, for a dragon, when he was in human form. Nobody had ever told them about that when they were warned about dragons, then again it was unlikely anyone else would ever know about the dragons ability to take on a human guise.

A strange, almost familiar bleating coming from over the other side of a wall had Nino falling out of his thoughts with a bump and he frowned just a little before setting off down the garden path to an almost concealed gate. There was a metal latch but it wasn’t locked so Nino decided that it was okay to go through. The bleating was growing louder reminding him of...Sheep...Or lambs...Or...Goats...Hundreds of them... Nino’s mouth fell open as he stepped beyond the wall and into...A dream? It had to be a dream, no way in reality could there be over a hundred goats bouncing around quite happily inside a meadow on top of the mountain. Not a single one of them seemed to have a care in the world as they hopped, skipped, and jumped around the lushest grass that Nino had ever seen. Some of the goats, the prides of the village, looked familiar and a few even came over and nibbled gently at his clothes. A chuckle sounded from far away and Nino looked up to see the most fearsome dragon in the land sat in the centre of a meadow goats jumping around him one, a small pure white ball of fluff was even sitting on his back.

The smile on the dragons face was so...Full of emotion, so genuine in it’s happiness that Nino had to swallow a thick lump. He had already admitted to himself that Jun was the best looking person that he had ever seen, if also the most arrogant, and seeing him like this, all at ease with the goats that he was meant to have eaten did something deep inside. His mouth felt as though it was stuck to the roof of his mouth and his heart was hammering inside his chest. For all that was holy, he fancied a dragon...No it was probably more than that. He was falling in love with a dragon.

The goats! Of course! I should have known! Nothing else can make you trust and fall for such a fluffy fearful being! So Nino doesn't mention them all the time just to tease Jun, it's also something he loves about him! Ugh, I may cry 😭💜💛
