Satoshi grunted as he was thrown backwards the tip of Aquaria’s sword catching him on the arm. For some reason he hadn’t expected it to hurt let alone bleed and yet he watched in horror as blood seeped from the wound. He looked around desperately for something to use as a weapon but there wasn’t even a piece of drift wood. Aquaria lunged at him and Satoshi twisted his body just in time managing to get away from her by going into the water.

“That is a mistake” A voice that wasn’t Aquaria’s told him gently and Satoshi looked around to see the girl from the tower not so far away. Her face was covered in a large bruise and her lip was bleeding.

“You can grow angry all you would like, but at this rate you will not be strong enough to rescue the child from the tower. Satoshi’s eyes moved away from the girl to look back at the goddess who was resting on her sword and staring at him with unnervingly blue eyes. They couldn’t have been her natural eye colour Satoshi thought trying not to look at them for too long as he muttered;

“Then teach me...”

“What do you think I am doing?” Aquaria sounded almost frustrated in him. Her eyes narrowed and Satoshi was glad as it meant he didn’t have to look at the blue of her eyes anymore. Satoshi stood up and glanced at the girl on his right before saying;

“Waving the sword around, I don’t even have a weapon. If you allowed me a sword...”

“Did a sword help you against your uncle? You had one then I believe and yet you didn’t have time to draw it. What I am attempting to teach you is more than a sword...” The goddess hummed moving her sword again and Satoshi flinched covering his face with his arms huffing out a bitter;

“Then how about you just tell me what I am meant to be learning...Maybe then I would be able to get it...”

“I am teaching you how to evade and to use the one power you have that nobody else will...” Aquaria answered waving the great sword again and forcing Satoshi to back up further into the ocean. He didn’t know what this place was but he had a very real sense that if he died here then he would die in the real world too. He didn’t say that to the goddess though but grunted out a rough;

“Oh? At what is that?”

“Me” The girl hummed coming forwards to stand beside him. She was so small and fragile that it seemed unlikely that she could be of much help against the goddess in front of him and yet when she seemed to tense and drop into a battle stance told him that she was probably a lot stronger than he was giving her credit for. “In the physical realm I am weak. But here in the spiritual I am stronger than you will ever be...” She hummed softly and Satoshi watched in amazement as the dragon he had thought was a toy rose up and looked at Aquaria. Its eyes glowed white for a moment and then smoke curled from out of its nose and mouth. The girl waved her hand and a long staff with a sharp blade appeared on the end. For moment Satoshi thought she was going to fight Aquaria herself but she handed him the blade with a small bow exposing the back of her neck from under her extremely long hair. It was as bruised as her face and Satoshi was positive that it was in the shape of a hand print. “Forget your father for now, my prince, he is not your current enemy and you should always focus on what is before you. It is the job of others to think of the beyond...”

“I wish I could help you now...”

“Now, or later, it doesn’t matter which. It should please you enough to know that you will, if you can become strong enough...” The girl sighed and Satoshi nodded with little understanding of how she could be so accepting of what was happening to her. Either she was like her mother and could read his mind or his thoughts were showing clear on his face as she gave him a sad smile that was echoed somewhat by Aquaria’s as she muttered “The life I live is the life I have always known...Your father took me from my mother when I wasn’t even a year old. I have lived in my tower since then...”

“Why have the gods not helped...”

“They don’t have the power to help, here in this world between worlds they have power but they cannot be brought forward into the physical realm, not yet” The girl sighed looking at Aquaria for something like confirmation.

“I am currently the strongest of my brothers and sisters. There was once a time when my family and I held sway over the mortal land...When our mother Via held power....” Aquaria’s tone stiffened her eyes and mouth tightening as a misty sheen of tears moved over her pupils. Satoshi felt his breath catch in his throat as he realised that Aquaria had used the past tense and he asked;

“She no longer does?”

“...No...”

“Why?”

“I cannot answer that. One day she was there, the next she had gone. Neither Kazumi or her child can answer that...” Aquaria nodded to the girl from the tower who rolled her shoulders slowly. Her lower lip was caught between her teeth as she turned to look out over the seemingly endless ocean.

“The darkness, it stretched out into the world threatening to consume it whole. Via stood between the earth and the darkness and she was victorious but...Then she vanished...” The girl whispered her voice monotone as though something ancient was speaking through her. “I have to go...Your father is coming...”

“And you should return to, you have been here for sometime. Kazumi will know when to bring you back once more...Until then, good bye...” Aquaria said with a chuckle and Satoshi nodded keeping his eyes on the girl from the tower wishing he could find a way of rescuing her already. The girl gave a smile her head cocking lightly to one side as a teasing look appeared in her eyes before she said;

“See you soon, my prince...And by the way...I am male...”
