Sakurai Sho, reporter and somewhat TV personality, sat on his cream leather sofa in the early hours of the morning reading through a newspaper. He liked to keep up with what was going on in the world even if it was nothing but depressing. A rustling of bed sheets alerted him to the fact that his CAT had woken. Heavy footsteps padded over the wooden floor and then the sofa dipped beside him. Eyes peered over his shoulder looking at the newspaper while he pressed his body as close to him as possible. The CAT had been a gift from a friend who had been worried about him living alone.

“What you reading?” The cat asked softly, his voice high pitched and curious, Sho knew that he wasn’t asking because he really wanted to know but because he wanted his attention. Ninomiya Kazunari really was the most spoilt pet cat in existence, Sho turned to look at his pet with a small smile playing with his lips. His hair, glossy jet black was in a mess around his pointed features. His ears, large with twin fluffs on the tip of each one, were almost flat against his head. It was a pose he adopted whenever he was scared, angry, or just plain tired. The way his eyes, a bright honey brown, were glistening with tears, told Sho it was the last of the three options.

The CAT was considered an exclusive gift only a handful of people had one and Sho supposed that he should be honoured that his friend valued him enough to get him one but Sho couldn’t escape the fact that for all that Nino had cat like characteristics he was still very human. Once he had started to think of him as human he had fallen in love with him. It had been an easy process and he knew that Nino felt the same even though it was...Frowned on to sleep with your CAT. Sho was one of the few people that admitted his relationship. It had lost him some follows but gained others.

“The newspaper. How did you sleep?” Sho hummed softly skimming through another portion of the paper as Nino sulked beside him. Nobody could sulk like a CAT could sulk and no other CAT could sulk like Nino. He was used to being the centre of attention and craved it and loved it.

“Not very well, you left me alone I got cold” Nino answered with a muffled huff slouching against him and rubbing his cheek against his shoulder. A purr pushed its way passed his lips almost unwillingly and Sho smiled as he continued to read his paper. “You’re not listening to me! You don’t love me anymore...Is it cause you met somebody else? Another human? You don’t like my ears...”

“I love your ears...” Sho breathed softly still not looking at the CAT knowing that it was driving him crazy but not caring. He wanted to read his paper, and more than that he needed to read it. He turned the page and waited a little. It didn’t take long for Nino to shift his body and come and settle himself down into his lap. He was in front of the paper and his eyes were glittering like golden gems. The smirk playing around on his pink lips was enough to make Sho want to kiss him but he knew that if he didn’t put his foot down Nino would never learn patience. “Nino, I’m trying to read...”

“You really don’t love me anymore” Nino hissed getting up and stomping very loudly back to the bed. He threw himself down into it and pulled the covers over his head until the only part of him that was visible was his long calico coloured tail. Said tail was flickering this way and that in a show of annoyance and Sho stared at the Nino shaped lump for a moment before sighing and carefully folding up his paper. Guilt at upsetting his little CAT was strong inside him and he walked to the bed and set himself down next to Nino. He reached out and gently stroked the man’s arm causing Nino to hiss and shuffle away. He stayed wrapped in his sheet and Sho changed track taking the twitching tail in his hands he waited until Nino got annoyed by him holding it and then waited for the CAT to come out. “You don’t love me! You should leave me alone!”

“Who said I don’t love you?”

“You did! You said that you were trying to read! That that newspaper was more important than me!” Nino pouted pulling the sheet back over his head but leaving his face exposed as he pulled his tail out of reach. Sho very nearly rolled his eyes at the dramatic way the CAT had taken his words. He hadn’t meant for him to feel unloved and he had to remind him of what he had actually said.

“I didn’t say that did I?”

“You might as well have!” Nino hissed his pupils becoming almost just a line in the centre of his eyes. Sho really did sigh this time and rubbed his face with his fingertips before saying;

“Nino, sometimes...”

“Sometimes what? You wish that I was human?”

“No I sometimes wish I were a CAT so I could understand your moods better” Sho had no idea where Nino had gotten the idea that he wanted a human over him but it really did seem to be playing on his mind. The word mood hit a cord inside Nino who growled and huffed;

“I don’t have moods”

“Yes you do, you know you do. I love you for them...Most of the time...At the moment I’m getting a headache...”

“Then you should go be with a human! Then you won’t have to deal with my moods!”

“I don’t want to be with a human and I like dealing with your moods...Most of the time, but not when you’re not making sense. Why do you keep obsessing about me being with a human?” Sho asked it wasn’t something that had come up before and he was really surprised that Nino was thinking it now.

“I saw you at the station! You and that weatherman! Yesterday! You were stroking him!”

‘I was stroking...” Sho hummed trying to remember yesterday. There was only one weatherman at the station, the rest were women so he could only mean Matsumoto Jun. The kid had been working there part time over the summer before he went back to school and Sho had been telling him that he was going to be great and...Then had wiped away a bug from his fringe. “No! I didn’t stroke him! I was taking away a ladybird. It was on his fringe...”

“A ladybird?”

“Yes, I promise, Nino, I wasn’t stroking him...The only person I like stroking is you...” It was a weird thing to say, Sho knew that but at the same time it was the only thing he could say. Nino stared at him for the longest time and then seemingly accepted his words as truth as he let out a happy shout and jumped at him. He wrapped his arms around his neck and pressed soft kisses to his face as he purred and wriggled around. “I love you, Nino”

“I love you too!” Nino replied purring enthusiastically as his cheek rubbed against his. Sho laughed at the sensation and then settled himself into the bed again knowing that the rest of his paper would go unread.
