Two Weeks Later

Nino watched anxiously as his daughter was taken from her incubator. It wasn’t the first time she had been out but it was the first time that she would be feeding from a bottle. As promised Nino was being given that honour. She had grown in the last two weeks but she was still tiny, barely as big as his forearm and he was so scared that he was going break her in someway. Her arms and legs were still so thin and there were still wires attached to her helping her breathe and fighting any signs of infections. He was having to wear gloves and a robe to wear her but she would finally be in his arms and he would be able to feed her, her first ever bottle.

“Ready?” The doctor asked with a smile and Nino gave an eager nod holding out his arms. ET still didn’t have a name but he really was starting to think Satoshi was right about ET being a good nickname. ET was finally placed in his arms and he gave a breath his heart skipping at her warmth. He was already bewitched by her little face, even with the tubes in her nose and the fact that her eyes were still sealed shut. The doctor had told them that they wouldn’t open for awhile yet and that there was nothing to worry about, everything was perfect about her.

“She is so beautiful” He whispered knowing that he had already said that so many times but he could hardly believe that she was his. Satoshi sat carefully behind him on the bed supporting his back his arm wrapped around his waist and Nino gave a smile his head resting against his lover’s shoulder. The doctor chuckled at their besotted smiled before handing him over a small warm bottle. It was much smaller than a regular bottle but Nino knew that she was still getting nutrients from the tube attached to her stomach.

“She is, okay, support her head very gently...And rub the teat against her mouth. When she gets used to it she will take it into her mouth...” The doctor gave him another smile and Nino did as he was told gently rubbing the silicone teat against her lips. ET wrinkled her nose, her brows furrowing in between the barely existent eyebrows. Her face was hairy but like her eyes Nino knew that was normal. Her lips eventually opened and the teat slipped into the mouth and he gently coaxed her into drinking. She didn’t know how to deal with it at first and Nino panicked as milk bubbled up out of her lips and down her chin.

“What...Is that normal...?”

“Yes, at first, just remove the teat a little and let her drink what’s in her mouth...”

“Okay...” Nino did as he was told hoping that she was okay. He was so terrified that he was doing something wrong and he would hurt her. She drank the milk and then opened her mouth again clearly looking for more. “She likes it”

“She does, that’s a good sign of how strong she is. She really is a little fighter, ne?”

“She is” Satoshi agreed with a chuckle and Nino smiled rubbing his head against his chest “She really is your daughter”

“And yours” Nino hummed popping the teat back into her mouth and watching her suckle. She didn’t suckle for long before once again her mouth was filled with milk. Satoshi kissed him on the cheek and then whispered;

“She looks just like you”

“I think she has your nose...But I think she is too young to decide who she looks like” Nino hummed though he knew that his little ET really did look like him. Just as he had looked just like his mum. Satoshi knew that to and pressed a kiss to his cheek once again humming softly;

“She has your mole and all of your features. She is going to be your clone”

“I wanted our baby to look just like you” Nino pouted remembering the dream that he had had with his daughter and son on the lake. In his dream she had looked just like Satoshi and he was slightly disappointed that she didn’t, even though she was perfect.

“Just because this one doesn’t look like me doesn’t mean the next one won’t”

“Oh? You trust me to carry another one? I didn’t do a very good job carrying this one” Nino pointed out nodding at ET. The doctor had already informed him that he would be able to carry more if he wanted when he had recovered.

“None of that was your fault. The circumstances weren’t exactly right with ET were they? The next one will be easier” Satoshi reassured him and Nino snorted through his nose saying dryly;

“Yeah, if you carry it”

“Told you before, I can’t carry children, but I would if I could” Satoshi promised and Nino rolled his eyes slowly and then chuckled as ET let out a strange little burb. The action caused her to throw up some of the milk and instinctively he held her up and tapped her back very slowly in a steady circle.

“Well done, you are a natural at this” The doctor hummed reminding them of her presence and Nino flushed just a little and then gave her a pleased smile. “But I think she has had enough for now. It is her first proper feed after all and now we have to wipe her face and mouth and then put her back...”

“Can I...Can I just hold her for a little bit more? Please...Two weeks and I haven’t been able to hold her properly” Nino asked shakily taking the cloth from the doctor and wiping her mouth with it.

“Just a little longer, I’m sorry, I know that it isn’t easy but it is the best for her but she is strong and she was able to feed today so that means she is going to keep getting stronger and soon, sooner rather than later” The doctor reached out and lay a gentle hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze. “Just a little longer”

“I know, I just wish that sooner was now” Nino said letting out a whine “But I will wait for her to be fit and ready”

“And probably when we have a name for her. We still haven’t really thought of any” Satoshi reminded him and Nino let out a sigh. It wasn’t completely true, they had a list of names written down but not a single one of them fit their little princess.
