“Mum...Please...” Sho pleaded with the woman who just shook her head and growled at him. She physically started pushing him to the door he had just come through and Sho knew that it had been hopeless to come here and hope that she had missed him.
“Get out of here! I told you that you were not to come back! Why did you leave your school...” She screamed, the sound so loud it almost hurt his eardrums and Sho answered her honestly, knowing that as they talked he was being pushed closer to the exit. The rejection hurt more than he had expected it to, he had always know there was little love lost between them, but to witness it on this level was heart breaking, even the maid that had been on the receiving end a few minutes ago looked at him with sympathy in her eyes.
“It’s my time of reflection to see if the church is where I want to be...”
“It’s my time of reflection to see if the church is where I want to be...”
“Of course it is! Best place for you. You never should have left! Get out of my house now!” Suzuki roared loudly again having reached the front door and Sho tried once again to get the woman to let him stay.
“Mum, please, be reasonable I have no where to go...”
“You should have thought of that before you came!”
“May I at least make a phone call?” He asked fighting with the tears that were threatening behind his eyes. The woman’s hands paused in their pushing as she jerked her head at the phone on a small table not far from him.
“Phone a taxi and get back on a plane now!” She hissed and Sho nodded knowing that he wouldn’t be phoning for a taxi. For starters he didn’t even know the number of any of the taxi services here. And Nino’s number was poking out of the front pocket of his bag. His mother moved to stand a few feet away from him with her arms folded over her chest. Her teeth were worrying at her lower lip and there was a muscle pulsing under her eye. Sho swallowed and picked up the phone his fingers shaking as he dialled the number he had been left with. He didn’t know what he would do if it was a prank. The phone buzzed against his ear and then clicked Nino’s softly purring voice answering with a bright and pleasant;
“Sho-kun, how nice of you to call, missing me already?”
“Um...How...How did you know it was me?”
“You’re the only person I’ve given this number to. I picked it up at the airport it’s cheaper than paying for data when I travel. So...What can I do for you oh sexy-not-yet-father...?” Nino chuckled at his own joke and for some reason the friendly tone was what broke him. It was nice to hear after the meeting with his sister and mother and a fat tear rolled down his cheek as his voice cracked as he asked;
“Can...Can I stay with you? I mean...In the hotel...I...If there is room...”
“The reunion went as bad as you expected huh?” The man whispered sounding disappointed as he let out a sigh muttering something like “Stupid woman, what’s she playing at” Under his breath before he cleared his throat and then said in that same seductive voice “Of course, you can come right over. I’ll send a taxi for you”
“You don’t have to...” Sho breathed still crying at the way Nino genuinely seemed to want to help him.
“Sure I do! It will be there in about ten minutes. I know it should be under better circumstances but I’m glad you’re coming. See you soon” Nino sing-songed before hanging up the phone. It took a few minutes of staring at the phone for Sho to realise that he hadn’t given Nino an address to give the taxi. He shook his head and then turned to look at his mother who had been trying to listen to the call but didn’t have the English speaking ability to keep up.
“A taxi is coming” He muttered shortly before putting his shoes back on and stepping out of the house to wait. His mother didn’t follow him and Sho felt his heart snap once again. He didn’t have long to wait, the taxi that had dropped him off...Or maybe it was just from the same company...Was soon driving up the path and coming up to park in front of him. The back door swung open and with a look back at the house hoping to see his mother coming to ask him to stay he stepped into the car.
The door closed behind him and the car started and pulled off without much ceremony. Sho lay his head back against the soft cushion of the taxi and thought about his mother, wondering why she was like the way she was. It couldn’t have been easy living with his father, he could understand that, but why did she hate him and not his brother and sister. It was clear that Mai still lived there and even if she was a little rude she seemed to be healthy. He hadn’t seen Shu but he knew that he must be there somewhere. He couldn’t really remember living with his parents for very long, at the age of five he had been shipped off to England to stay in the first of his boarding schools.
“Master...You have arrived” A voice hissed at him and he opened his eyes quickly to find that they had stopped in front of the traditional hotel Nino had gone into. The person that had spoken was the driver of the taxi and he had turned to look at him from the front seat. His eyes were startling, a pale almost sickly looking green colour and there was a tattoo of a snake curled over his right ear the head resting in the corner of one of the eyes. Sho nodded weakly at him and gathered his belongings before scrambling out of the taxi. Once again he tried to pay but the strange man drove off before he could leaving him staring up at the hotel apprehension attacking his stomach. None of the tattooed men and women were hanging around now and Sho wondered if that meant they had left or they were inside.
A small voice in the back of his mind told him that he should leave, go to the airport and grab a room in the airport hotel for the night but that voice was soon replaced by Nino’s voice. It took him a moment to realise the man was standing in front of him and he wasn’t just imagining it. The man that had been wearing a suit earlier was now dressed in a light grey Yutaka that was open slightly at the front revealing soft pale skin free from hair but decorated with the hint of a fox tattoo around his shoulder.
“Hello, Sho-kun, come on in...You’re going to love it here, I promise...”
