Nino picked up his son as they got off the train and then ran out of the station. He was fifteen minutes late for his appointment already and it was not the impression that he had wanted to give to the doctor that they were going to see. Matsumoto Jun had been recommended by the school as somebody that might be able to help. He had immediately looked the man up online and then very nearly cried when he had seen how much the services would cost. His mother had helped somewhat and he had taken out a loan to cover the rest. Some people might say he was stupid but if this helped his son then he was ready to pay for it.
“You okay, Satoshi?” He asked through an almost breathless huff as he checked the address on his phone before making a sharp turn. The boy nodded against him and Nino sighed with relief. He hoped the doctor would understand his tardiness, it wasn’t as though he had meant to be late but Satoshi had wet himself. The doctor’s building was soon in front of him and he danced in front of it as the electric doors seemed to take forever to open. Matsumoto’s office was on the top floor and Nino quickly decided against the elevator and ran up the flights of stairs.
He let out a long sigh of relief as he saw the brightly coloured waiting room before him. The walls were painted in a range of block colours with different anime characters on canvases doted here and there. There was a mountain of toys in the centre of the room and Satoshi was soon wiggling out of his arms and going to them with interest. Nino gave a smile and then went to the small glass partition which held a smiling young man with a blue fringe and pointed features.
“Um...Ninomiya Satoshi...I have an appointment but...Um...I’m late...”
“It’s okay” The man said brightly before bobbing his head in an apologetic bow “Matsumoto-sensei was running a little late today, there was an emergency so he is just finishing up the appointment before yours. Please take a seat, would you like a drink?”
“Um...Coffee?” Nino answered feeling a little stunned at the question while at the same time feeling relieved that he wasn’t late for the appointment that had cost him an arm and a leg. The man behind the counter gave him a nod and another friendly smile. It seemed as though he was well trained in dealing with frantic parents and knew how to calm them down.
“Coming right up, what about your little boy?”
“A strawberry juice...Um...If you have it?” He answered knowing that it was Satoshi’s favourite though he never specifically asked for it. The man nodded again and opened a small fridge that was under his desk pulling out the asked for drink. It was the expensive version in a little penguin shaped bottle and Nino gave a little smile knowing that his boy would love it.
“Yup. Here you go. I’ll bring your coffee over, have a seat ne”
“Thank-you, so much” Nino bobbed his head and then went over to Satoshi who was playing around with some brightly coloured building blocks. His eyes weren’t really focused on them however and Nino hoped and prayed that this therapist would work. “Satoshi, look...A penguin...” He said holding out the bottle and moving it from side to side in an imitation of walking. Satoshi blinked at it slowly and then reached out his hand. “It’s juice as well see. You have to take his little hat off...Strawberry...” Nino explained as he removed the little blue top hat wondering if it was silly to want to save the bottle, it would be cute for Satoshi to take his drink in to school.
Once the boy had the bottle Nino sank into one of the comfortable chairs and rubbed his face with the palm of his hand. He wanted sleep, a real good night of sleep something that he hadn’t had since the accident. When he did sleep he dreamt that Satoshi had also been killed. He couldn’t count the amount of times he had sat in the funeral of his son. It was always so real, so heart breaking to see the tiny coffin with the blue flowers Satoshi loved so much surrounding him and his stuffed dog tucked into his arms. He knew it wasn’t real but it left him emotionally drained and he cried every time he woke up.
“You look as tired as I feel” A voice said and Nino’s flew open again surprised that there was somebody else there. He hadn’t noticed the other man in the waiting room. Now he had to wonder how he had missed him. He was absolutely gorgeous and was dressed in an impressive light grey three piece suit with a black silk tie. His hair was worn fairly long brushed into a straight style. He looked like the kind of person Nino would never speak to but he was offering him a friendly smile showing rather large...Hamster like teeth.
“Then I feel sorry for you” He mumbled and the man gave a laugh scratching at the back of his neck ruffling his hair a little.
“The same. Sakurai Sho...”
“Ninomiya Kazunari” Nino mumbled willing himself not to flush as the man bobbed his head in a bow. Pulling his eyes away from the man he looked back at Satoshi who was playing with his bottle on the blocks rather than drinking from it.
“Your brother?” The man asked with a soft inquisitive brow and Nino quickly shook his head with a little laugh correcting him with a soft;
“My son”
“Oh...Right...You don’t look old enough...” The man sounded completely disbelieving and Nino’s laugh grew louder feeling a little a mixture of flattered and bewildered at what he hoped was a compliment.
“I’m 25. Had Satoshi while in college” Nino sighed a little resting back against the chair a little more as the receptionist came over with the coffee. The man gave him a bright smile and a wink before going back to his desk leaving him with Sho who was still looking disbelieving.
“I see”
“Accidental pregnancy but the best thing that ever happened to me” Nino said adamantly and Sho gave a him another little smile. The door near the reception opened and a sweet little boy with soft brown hair limped out followed by another unbelievably good looking man.
“My adopted son, Masaki” Sho explained getting up and walking to the boy whose sweet face changed into a scowl his eyes narrowing as he looked at him. “How did it go?”
“Fine. I wanna go to school” Masaki growled and Sho seemed to sigh and give a nod before thanking the doctor and smiling in Nino’s direction before leaving through the door Nino had come in not long before.
“Ninomiya Satoshi?” The doctor called with a crocked smile and Satoshi ran over to Nino holding him tightly with his arms wrapping around his neck as he stared at the doctor with his sleepy eyes.
“It’s okay, sweetheart, come on...”
