The War part 50
Aug. 6th, 2018 10:28 am “The old man was the dragon right?” Nino asked the next morning as Satoshi treated his wounds. Nino felt bad about falling to sleep in the middle of the story. It had actually been pretty interesting, if a little childish and he could easily see Satoshi telling it to his daughter. The Vampire looked a little confused before shaking his head with a smile on his lips. “It wasn’t? Who was he then?”
“Just a man in the forest puppy, in the story the man seek his wish is visited by five people, the old man, an old woman, a mother and her crippled child, and a pair of lovers whose family are keeping them apart” Satoshi explained softly with a smile and Nino wondered if the Vampire had been the one to make up the story for his daughter. It was the kind of story that he would have made up. “They all came to the waterfall to seek the dragon. The man helps them all out, he gives his food to the old man bed roll to the crippled girl and her mother, his coverings to the old woman, his clothes to the young man, and shoes to the woman. They spend the night together in front of the fire and then the next morning they head up the mountain, the mother carrying her daughter isn’t going to make it so the hero carries the child on his own back. Eventually they make it to the top and the dragon is sitting in the pool. He looks at them and tells them that he can only give five wishes. The man insists that the five strangers take their wish his heart breaking at the thought of not getting his own wish but he is happy that the five will get theirs. As soon as he tells them that though, the five people he helped vanish and the dragon gains five heads, all that look like the people he spent the night with. They tell him that he has passed their test and that the greatest wishes in his heart will be granted all he has to do is speak them...He does...”
“So, he married the princess?” Nino sighed trying not to wince as the man gently rubbed some cream into his wrists. Satoshi was being gentle but Nino couldn’t believe the amount of pain he could feel. He was so used to healing quickly and not having to worry about minor cuts or abrasions like this.
“No, he goes home and marries princess’ kitchen maid, they become very wealthy and happy having six children...”
“Why? I thought he loved the princess?”
“The story is a little longer, the maid had loved him along even when he was poor, he realises that even if he forces the princess to marry him by magic she still wouldn’t love him for who he was and he would end up growing bitter...” Satoshi shrugged and Nino gave a hum, deciding that it was less fluffy than the stories he used to tell Masaki when the human was young. Masaki had loved the simple stories of good always beating out the bad, the bad guy would always be defeated, the world would be safe.
“Okay, I guess it would make more sense if I had listened to it all, will you tell me again sometime?”
“Yes, I will even find you the book I made for Rii, I still have it somewhere...There, all done, I think they are looking better today”
“Really? They still hurt, but not as much as they did...” Nino smiled knowing that his lover was lying to try and comfort him. Tayhia had promised that she would look into it for them when she had time but there had been a skirmish in the night and a lot of vampires needed help. It wouldn’t look good for one of the best healers in the camp to be more worried about a werewolf. “So, what are we going to do today? We could play eye-spy, but I think we used up everything the last time we played...”
“Sorry, puppy, the king will be here soon and then we can get you home...”
“That isn’t all that attractive. Do you think I could get out of the bed a little? I’m pretty sure if I stay here any longer my legs will forget what they are used for” Nino joked and Satoshi gave him a nod reaching out for his arm and helping him to his feet. Nino wobbled at first and after clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth he grit his teeth together and forced himself to let go of the vampire. It was slow progress but eventually he made it to the end of the bed. Once there he stopped and took a calming breath before starting towards the grimy wall. It was harder now, there was nothing for him to lean against to support his movements but he persevered and like a baby making his first awkward steps he made his way to the wall and collapsed against it.
“Puppy, I think you should rest a little now...”
“I’ve barely moved...”
“You had silver poisoning and although Tayhia worked a miracle your body is still weak. Think of it as a human flu...” Satoshi sighed calmly and Nino shot the man a glare before holding his arms out to him.
“Fine, you can support me then, but I don’t want to lay down. If I stay in that bed for any longer I will lose my mind...”
“It’s already far too late for that, puppy...” Satoshi joked chuckling in his ear as he led him a small circle around the room. It was easier to have Satoshi supporting his weight but he huffed at the joke and then poked his lover in the stomach.
“You must be right, after all only a simpleton would want to bond with you...” He huffed back yelping when Satoshi spun around and easily picked him up off the floor. For a moment he thought the vampire was mad but then he saw the smirk lighting his features as his head lightly cocked to one side.
“Then, it’s lucky you don’t have all your senses, puppy, cause I’m not letting you go now...” The vampire told him before bringing him in close and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. Nino laughed against him, settling his arms onto the man’s shoulders and enjoying the kiss. It wasn’t deep, Satoshi appeared to be heeding Tayhia’s warning about not over taxing him, but it was sweet and Nino thought he could easily love this feeling as much as he had transforming into his wolf.
“Satoshi...” He mumbled as they broke apart and were once again looking at each other “If i can’t transform you will have to make sure you kiss me every day...”
“You will be able to transform again, puppy, but I promise when everything is settled...I will kiss you every hour of the day...” Satoshi promised proving his point by giving him another kiss which would have became deeper if they didn’t hear a rumble of excitement from outside the door. Nino’s heart thumped painfully once his mouth go dry as he looked at Satoshi fearfully. The king was here.
